Aron, I am getting curious about the nature of a predator. I can understand issues surrounding "the other things"... But what would the predator be after.....

What is any predator after? I can't answer that question. I do hope I'm wrong and that Theo is found safe and well. It's a large area with a lot of bushland and ocean. Shark attacks aren't unusual up there, but this case seems unusual to me.

Primarily, predators operate on an Id (hedonistic-pleasure) principle and their motives and drives aren't something I have an insight into. I study the human mind, but because of a bad grasp of the mathematical language, I could not study criminology and psychology but do study some subjects of psychology in my counselling degree.

So the nature of a predator will manifest in different forms, for different reasons, for different needs. Most have trouble controlling their compulsions and their life becomes unbearable if they don't act on their fantasies. So what a predator is after is personal satisfaction, power, and control through dominance.
Please if anyone knows more and thinks I'm off track, correct me, but from my observations studies and readings, this is what I understand of the predator mind.

Thanks for the clarification. I already got what you meant - a sex predator.

As for Crimestoppers, I mean whatever you know about such predators in the neighborhood, as relevant to Theo's case now. You never know it may be useful. Locals living there may not think of mentioning it?

The search for missing Belgian backpacker Theo Hayez will resume tomorrow morning. Search teams will focus on an area between The Pass and Byron Bay Lighthouse. Police said “specialist resources” will be involved. Theo has now been missing for 18 days. @10Daily

I hear what you are saying Aron so I’m now thinking maybe because of the drugs create many psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia) and Theo crossed paths with a crazy.
I’m also concerned Theo took something bad.

The Daily Mail just now ....

Dozens of people, including State Emergency Service volunteers and members of the public, on Tuesday returned to the area around Cape Byron Lighthouse where the last 'ping' from Theo's phone was recorded on June 1.

The search was suspended that evening with nothing of interest found, NSW Police said in a statement.
The operation will resume mid-morning on Wednesday with specialist police forces.

Homicide detectives are helping the investigation along with Belgian authorities but police hold hope Theo is still alive.

More than $65,000 has been raised via a Go Fund Me page for the Hayez family, part of which was used to help Laurent Hayez fly to Australia.

New twist in search for Theo Hayez as police focus on Byron Bay lighthouse | Daily Mail Online

It's interesting. Where they are searching, is the complete opposite direction of the hostel he was staying in. The hostel he was staying in is perhaps a 45 minute walk out of Byron Bay towards Mullumbimby. That road is long and dark, but they are searching the opposite end of town.

And where they are searching, and are going to search tomorrow - where Theo's phone last pinged - is a long way from the "15 minutes walk away from the hostel" where he was last seen on CCTV.

Somehow Theo (and/or his phone) got from 15 minutes away from the hostel, to the lighthouse area.

He was last seen on CCTV about 15 minutes' walk from his Byron hostel, close to midnight.
..... Theo was walking back to the Wake Up! hostel on Childe Street ....

The red dot is Childe Street, on the way to the hostel.

The lighthouse is quite a distance away (for a walking person) to the right of the map.

What changed Theo's mind about returning to the hostel when he was so close to it??

Is there any way to get to “The Most Easterly Point in Mainland Australia” by cutting through the woods from the Wategos Beach area? Or would the only way to get there be to go back toward town and out the road to the light house? Is the Most Easterly Point a busy place for sunrise?

I was just wondering do you have to be back at the hostel by a certain time at night?

I think they usually lock the main doors at a certain time of night, maybe midnight, but most places these days give a code or card that a paying guest can open the door with.

I'm not sure how this particular hostel works, as it looks as though there are rooms/dorms at the back ... not through a main door.

Presumably there are key codes/cards for each door, so others in the rooms/dorms can sleep safely.

The sunrise in Byron Bay on the morning of 1st June was at 6:30am.
That would mean quite a few hours waiting around for the sunrise, unless Theo went back to his room and then went out again before the sunrise.
Looking at the hostel pics, I think there might be a camera on the front of the building on the right side of the pic, likely to keep an eye on the bikes and surfboards that are kept out the front.
No articles have mentioned seeing Theo on footage from his hostel.

The low overnight temp was 5C/41F.
It was a cold night.

Do we know what kind of phone he had? Since he was backpacking for 8 months could he have invested in a waterproof phone or kept his phone in one of those cases that protects it if it falls in water? This might seem a little far farfetched but what I'm wondering is if he could have fallen in the ocean and his phone floated toward the lighthouse where it pinged for the last time? Or could he have taken a small boat towards the lighthouse? What direction was the tide moving that night? Would the water have naturally taken him that direction?

I am wondering,

in the MSM they are showing the last footage of him on CCTV in the 711 store. I have not seen any mention in the articles or the caption under the CCTV of the person that he is seen with in the store or leaving the store with. Is this person known? was he the connection to W/A platform that he may have met up with or did the W/A messaging take place later that night. Sorry if this has been mentioned previously I have not come across it.

IMO and not speculating
I have read a reply to a similar question on you tube. The reply was very informative and said that Theo and the friend who was also staying at the hostel, went to the bottle shop to buy alcohol for a barbecue that was being held at the hostel. They returned to the hostel after buying the alcohol, and after the barbecue Theo and the same friend then went to Cheeky Monkeys. Theo was asked to leave the bar but the friend stayed on at the bar. They also say it was the same friend who reported him missing several days later.

He's reportes to have had an Oppo, which was bright purple (unsure if they mean the phone is purple or if it had a purple case).

Thanks, I'm in the US and not familiar with that brand but Oppo's customer service page says one of their phones is water resistant:

"The second digit is for the water resistance rating. R15 Pro has seven (7), meaning that the device can be submerged in up to one meter of fresh water for half an hour."
R15 Pro water-resistant feature | OPPO Global

Although that page makes clear it is not water resistant in salt water, I still wonder if the phone was in his pocket if it could have stayed active for up to 30 minutes while he floated towards the lighthouse. Perhaps that could account for the pings away from his hostel. JMO.

The police in Byron Bay know the local situation better I. I'm sure they have their finger on the pulse in that sense.
I guess I could've used a better word than predator. Sex is a motivation for some, while some are motivated by other reasons.
