"No further organized searches are planned after crews spent a third day scouring the Kokosing River in Knox County for a missing Columbus teenager who is presumed to have drowned, authorities said.

Narayan Darnal, 15, was reported missing at 3:28 p.m. Tuesday from the river where it runs through Honey Run Park. The boy, who is from Nepal and had just finished eighth grade at Mifflin Middle School in Columbus, was last seen swimming in the river with two other teens and an adult.

The area where the boy was last observed contains a large tree that is partially submerged and there are also underwater rock formations, crevices and river currents that pose potential hazards for divers, according to a release from the Knox County sheriff’s office. First reponders used boats, divers, sonar and K9 dogs in the effort to locate the victim over the past three days."

"A male’s body found floating in the Muskingum River in Dresden Tuesday morning could be that of a 15-year-old Columbus boy who disappeared while swimming on June 11 in the Kokosing River in Knox County and was presumed drowned, authorities said.

"Sheriff David Shaffer said officers traveled to Columbus to meet with the family members of 15-year-old Darnal Narayan, who disappeared June 11 while swimming in the Kokosing River.

In an attempt to make an identification, photos that included clothing from the victim found in Dresden, were shown to family member of the missing boy.

Although it is possibly the same person, a positive identification has not yet been made, according to the release...

Narayan was last seen wearing a blue swimsuit, which corresponds with the clothing found on the body at Village Park in Dresden."

"The male pulled from the Muskingum River last Tuesday has been identified as Darnal Narayan, the 15-year-old Columbus boy who went missing while swimming in the Kokosing River on June 11, the Zanesville Times-Recorder reported Thursday afternoon.

Muskingum County Coroner Charles Feicht told the Times-Recorder that DNA samples were taken from the body and Narayan's parents to determine an identification. Those results came back Thursday."

"According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, it was contacted by the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office on June 18 concerning a male body discovered in the Muskingum River near Dresden. DNA testing by Muskingum County Coroner Charles Feight was used to properly identify the body as that of 15-year-old Narayan Darnal."

"MOUNT VERNON – In response to two drownings that have occurred on the Kokosing River in the past month [including that of Darnal Narayan], the Knox County Park District plans to reinforce river safety at access points through new, informational signage.

While the river itself is an independent property – it is wild, not owned by a private or governmental agency – the park district does control the river’s access points in Knox County. According to director Lori Totman, the park district plans to install signage Wednesday that will include an attention-grabbing acronym – ACT NOW – to communicate key river safety tips, as well as a QR code that will direct smartphone users to the U.S. Geological Survey’s website, so they can check the height and flow rate of the river before heading in."
