Investigators in Indiana are searching for a man who allegedly kidnapped a woman as she changed her tire.

The woman called authorities Saturday afternoon stating she had been abducted while she was tending to her flat tire, according to a press release from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

It appears Etter left a comment on News 18's original article. The comment was posted around 1 p.m. on Sunday. It is not confirmed if this is actually Paul Etter's Facebook account, but the sheriff's department is investigating the comment.

I guess what gets me is the poster who says he is Paul Etter will not turn himself in, but go sightseeing around the country. Not sure this poster is an imposter, but my gut says to pay attention. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The search for suspected kidnapper and sexual assaulter Paul A. Etter continued Sunday around the Girl Scout camp's property in eastern Tippecanoe County, Sheriff Bob Goldsmith said.

Etter, 55, stopped to help a woman in her 20s who had a flat tire in rural Tippecanoe County on Saturday afternoon, Goldsmith said. But instead of helping her, police suspect he abducted her and took her to a remote area in the 700 block of South Tippecanoe County Road 775 East.

This area is near the Girl Scout camp and near where Etter lives, Goldsmith said.

Etter confined the woman and sexually assaulted her in this area, Goldsmith said.

The woman managed to escape once during the afternoon, but he caught her and confined her again, Goldsmith said.

About 5 p.m., Etter drove the woman to a residence and let her out, and she called police, Goldsmith said.

The police are still looking.

A woman reported Etter abducted and assaulted her while holding her in a barn in eastern Tippecanoe County. The woman reported the attack happened after her car broke down on North 900 East near 26.

Sheriff Goldsmith has overseen searches for Etter using K-9 units, drones and with other help from the ISP helicopter.

Etter is considered dangerous. Deputies don’t know if he has a weapon.

This is the third day deputies and officers have patrolled State Road 26 between County Road 775 East and 900 East.

[...]

"If you are in a place that you are not familiar with and it's dark and you're out in the country, you're out in the city and you are having car problems and things like that and don't know where you are, do not be afraid to call the police," said Goldsmith. "You never know. There may be an officer right around the corner from you. You just never know. Just be cautious."

Safety remains paramount in search for Paul Etter

According to court documents, a woman called police and said she was driving home on County Road 900 East in Tippecanoe County when she got a flat tire around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. She said she pulled into a driveway and a man asked her if she needed help. She told police she did not know the man, and thought he was suspicious.

Documents say she then left and drove up County Road 900 East to a friend's house with the flat tire. The man followed her in a car and documents say he approached the woman and put her in handcuffs. He then put her into his car and drove to another location, according to prosecutors.

According to court documents, he held her against her will for several hours. At one point, prosecutors say she tried to make a phone call with her iWatch. The man noticed, took it off and crushed it on the ground, according to prosecutors.

Court documents say the man then took the woman to what she described as a barn. He put shackles on her ankles and chained her to a desk, according to court documents. Around 9:30 a.m., prosecutors say the man took her back to her parked car and let her go.
