BREAKING: Police raid home in search for missing student Mackenzie Lueck; neighbors say homeowner recently burned something in the yard

Police have raided a Salt Lake City home believed to be connected to the disappearance of missing college student Mackenzie Lueck.

Neighbors told the Salt Lake Tribune that the homeowner, who has not yet been identified, rented part of the property through Airbnb. And some said they recently saw and smelled him burning something in his yard.

KUTV reports that they located the social media pages of the homeowner, and that he appears to be a University of Utah graduate. He also reportedly served in the United States army and currently works as a model.

Police have not named a suspect or made an arrest at this time, but Doubt reportedly said at the news conference that the homeowner was the “nexus” of the investigation.

After serving a search warrant Wednesday for a house in the Rose Park area, authorities worked through the night removing items from the home.

Video from Chopper 5 also showed police working in the back yard of the residence near 550 North and 1000 West, digging holes beneath canopies.

Police haven’t said — if anything — they have found in the backyard, but they are continuing to follow leads Thursday morning in the Mackenzie Lueck missing person case.

After serving the warrant at about noon Wednesday, authorities appeared to be wrapping up work at the scene at approximately 5 a.m. Thursday.

A police presence was still on scene Thursday morning.

Possible break in case of missing Utah college student
Authorities served a search warrant on a home in Rose Park, Salt Lake City assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt announced late Wednesday.

Police have not named any suspects in the case.

"The leads we developed led us here, and then we served a search warrant,'' Doubt said. "They live here, of course they’re part of the investigation because we’re serving a search warrant on their house."

[...]

Crime scene technicians combed through the home for hours and detectives paid close attention to an unattached garage near the back of the property, Miguel Almaguer reported on TODAY Thursday. A vehicle was also reportedly towed from the property.

[...]

The home that was raided on Wednesday is a seven-minute drive from Hatch Park. Neighbors told NBC News that the man who lives there keeps to himself.

"This is a very friendly block,'' one neighbor said on TODAY Thursday. "Everybody knows everybody, but we didn't really know him. Very reclusive and not super neighborly."

Utah Domestic Violence Coalition calls out ‘blatant’ victim blaming amid search for MacKenzie Lueck
[...]

Thursday morning the UDVC released a statement, saying that much of the speculation about the missing woman has been “a blatant form of victim blaming.”

The statement said in part:

“While we do not know the details of Mackenzie’s disappearance, we do know that victim blaming and shaming is inappropriate and unacceptable. In addition to perpetuating myths about abuse, assault, and violence, victim blaming wrongly excuses the perpetrator’s behaviors.

Our focus should solely be on the safety and wellbeing of Mackenzie Lueck.”
