Police in Ohio are working with area law enforcement agencies to locate woman who has been missing since August 3.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said officers are searching for 33-year-old Shawna Lynn Rue, whose last known address is 201 S. Walnut St., Union City, in Randolph County, Indiana.

Police say they received reports on August 8 from Rue’s sister, saying she had been missing since August 3. The sister said the last time anyone spoke to her was August 3, and that she may go by the name of Shawna Ressler, her married name.

Rue’s sister said she believes the last time she was seen was when she visited her husband who is incarcerated at the Mercer County Adult Detention facility from 6:40 – 7 p.m. on August 3.

Her husband, Steve Ressler, said he did visit with her that day, and said they talked about some issues that “did not make Shawna happy”.

Ressler gave an officer some locations that Shawna may have went to, but she was not found. Police said that later Saturday evening, Shawna dropped her children off at their grandmother’s house in Union City.

“At this point, I don’t believe Mercer County has jurisdiction,” stated Sheriff Grey, “it appears that she was fine when she dropped the children off, and that is her last known location at this time, which is not in Mercer County. We are continuing efforts to locate Shawna, however, we have obtained no new leads.”

Officers ask that anyone with any information on her whereabouts please contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office at 419-586-7724.

I wonder why the family waited for 5 days before reporting her missing. Maybe it's not uncommon for her to not return for her kids for days? Regardless, it doesn't sound good that they're searching farm fields and woods for her.

Shawna told others prior to leaving "a location in Union City" at 11:50am that she had an appointment in Celina that day.

What type of appointment on a Sunday I wonder?

Have the children been at Grandma's this whole time? If so, what was the original agreed upon timeframe for the grandmother to have them? Is it normal for someone else to keep her children that long without anyone hearing from her? Has she done this before?

I have added a map to give perspective on the locations (A-D). Info from Cagle's and Pommy's links-

August 3: Shawna visited her husband who is incarcerated at the Mercer County Adult Detention facility (A) from 6:40 – 7 p.m. on August 3. Her husband, Steve Ressler, said he did visit with her that day, and said they talked about some issues that “did not make Shawna happy”.

Police said that later Saturday evening, Shawna dropped her children off at their grandmother’s house in Greenville/Union City (B). Sheriff Grey, “it appears that she was fine when she dropped the children off."

August 4: The investigation thus far has confirmed that Shawna was last seen leaving a location in Union City (C) on Sun Aug 4th at 11:50 AM. She reported to witnesses she was going to an appointment in Celina, Ohio (D) in Mercer County which is approximately 35 miles north and east of Union City.

Investigators believe she disappeared somewhere in the area of northern Darke County and Southern Mercer County.

Not reported missing for five days, with no contact with her kids dropped at her Grandmother's....hmmm.

Her husband, Steve Ressler, said he did visit with her that day, and said they talked about some issues that “did not make Shawna happy”. Or did Shawna say something that made SR not happy.

She reported to witnesses that she was going to an appointment close to noon on a Sunday. What appointment was this? Was she going back to see her husband?
Who are the "witnesses"?! Friends or just people at the Union City location. Why tell witnesses where you are going?

Seems like there is a chance she is on the run, and those close to her are aware of this.

I hope so.

Looking at court records in Darke County, Shawna was evicted in July this year. There was also an eviction in 2018, not sure if the cases are separate evictions. Wonder if that was what she was unhappy about?
That would certainly be something to be unhappy about. Maybe the appointment was to look at an apartment or house? MOO

"We all need her," family shares heartfelt message to missing mother of two

With Ressler's phone dead and her black Chevrolet Trailblazer still nowhere to be found, law enforcement stepped in.

“Shawna is never missing,” Ganim added. “She is in contact with her family and her children every day.”

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office said they're now trying to beat the clock with only a few leads.

“We are very concerned and there are some things that just aren’t adding up right,” said Darke County Sheriff, Toby Spencer.

Investigators are asking people to keep an eye out for Ressler, who they say has several distinct tattoo's, including a blue puzzle piece for autism awareness.

“Her niece has autism and she’s passionate about everything and everybody when it comes to people she loves,” said Ganim.

SHAWNA L. RUE RESSLER MISSING PERSON CASE INVESTIGATION SUSPENDED PENDING INDENTIFICATION OF FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH VICTIM

On August 9, 2019 the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Union City, OH and Union City, IN Police Departments began a joint missing person investigation of Shawna Rue Ressler of Union City, OH/IN. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office joined and assisted in the investigation a few days later.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that Shawna Rue Ressler was last seen on Stateline Road north of Union City on August 4, 2019 at 12:12pm while traveling to a destination in Celina, Ohio 35 miles north of Union City.

Multiple deputies from multiple counties searched the areas of northern Darke County, southern Mercer County and the eastern side of Randolph and Jay Counties in Indiana.

On August 14, 2019 at approximately 1pm the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a vehicle had been found in a steep ditch and was covered in a woods and vegetation. The vehicle was located on Stateline Road in Mercer County, Ohio south of Fox Road. The Darke County Sheriff’s Office was also notified of this discovery at the same time. Deputies from Mercer County responded to the scene as well as deputies from Darke County who were nearby searching the area.

Mercer County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives are investigating the crash. Darke County Sheriff’s detectives were present to assist and gather any evidence in the missing person case. Both Sheriff’s Office continued to work this joint investigation. Details of the crash investigation are deferred to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies discovered a black Chevy Trail Blazer had crashed into the ditch and overturned. The vehicle was registered to Shawna Rue Ressler. The vehicle was occupied by one deceased person. The clothing on the victim, other identifying marks on the body as well as personal belongings in the vehicle lead investigators to believe the deceased may be Shawna Rue Ressler. As a result of these preliminary findings the Darke County Sheriff’s Office is suspending the missing person investigation.

Darke County Sheriff Toby L. Spencer thanks the public for their assistance in this case. Sheriff Spencer also thanks Sheriff Jeff Grey, Sheriff Art Moystner, Union City Ohio and Indiana Police Chiefs and all of the surrounding law enforcement agencies that assisted in the missing person investigation.
