Detroit police are seeking tips to find a 26-year-old woman who has been missing for more than a week.

Unique Bryant failed to attend a birthday celebration for her mother, Shemeka Bryant, on July 29, relatives reported.

On Aug. 4, Shemeka Bryant was surprised when a friend dropped off Unique's 9-month-old son, saying she had been unable to reach her for several days and could not babysit any longer.

Days earlier, Unique had spoken with a sibling on the phone and said she had found a new place to live and planned to return that weekend for her 5-year-old daughter, who primarily lives at Shemeka Bryant's home. But Unique never showed up there or her grandmother's home, where she had lived temporarily, her mother said.

Since then, calls to her cell phone have gone unanswered, and she has not responded to messages on social media, Shemeka Bryant said.

"None of her friends have seen her or talked to her," she said.

Unique had not been working full-time but was looking for work and did not appear to have any issues, her mother said. There is "nothing physically or mentally wrong with her," she said.

The family filed a missing person report with Detroit police on Monday, Shemeka Bryant said.

As the days pass without any word on Unique's whereabouts, relatives have been scouring neighborhoods and seeking tips to find her.

"It's affecting the whole family," Bryant said. "I've stressed out. ... I want to make sure my daughter is safe."

Unique is described as 5-foot-6, 125-130 pounds, with a small build, medium brown complexion, brown eyes, and long black ponytail.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's 11th Precinct at (313) 596-1140. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

I hate that it took so many days to report her missing. I'm curious what her and her mom's relationship was like - for many people missing their mom's birthday celebration would've been a huge red flag that something wasn't right immediately. Did the mom even try to reach out to see why she didn't show up? The friend she left her kid with didn't try to reach her over several days while the kid was in her care? More insight would be nice.

It says above the friend who had the baby, could not reach her. If that was you were mentioning.

Does the sibling know where the “new place to live” was or is? They could look at cameras in that area or speak with apartment managers. Maybe speak to Dad? Is he stepping up to care for the child or children?

How about a description of her vehicle?

She and the baby were living with her grandmother, so why would she leave her 9 month old with a friend? Wouldn’t the grandmother question what was going on and call her daughter? (Unique’s Mom)

And would she be making regular monthly trips to the orthodontist with braces?

Odd that it says she was last seen on July 31 AND Aug 3. Wonder if it’s a typo

Under her fb profile pic she says she is the mother to 3 named children. Is there a middle child or was she expecting a baby?
3 children?
5 year old at her mothers, dropped her 9 month old at friends house, unknown 3rd child. And she’s only 26. Wonder if she was meeting up with a friend? New boyfriend? Baby’s father? Hope she is found soon.

Is this “vacant garage” a storage unit??

ETA: oh street view looks like an overgrown lot with a building on it.

DETROIT – Police are investigating after a woman’s body was found Sunday morning in a garage on Detroit’s west side.

According to authorities, she was found at about 9:30 a.m. in a vacant garage in the 15800 block of Beaverland Street. Police were investigating an abandoned vehicle inside the garage when they found a decomposing body in the garage. Homicide detectives are investigating, but cause of death has not been confirmed yet.
