Recovered/Located CA - James ‘Devin’ Boley, 20 & Stacey Best, 25, Brawley, 17 August 2019

I want to believe they lost their phone but are out on foot, maybe taking from the kindness of strangers (I give out water to people I see walking in the summer here, it's pretty common). Maybe they were embarrassed to tell their families what happened with them being perhaps scammed out of a place to live in Utah.

That phone must hold some clues re the"landlord". So scared for these two

They may not even realize people are looking for them.

I wonder what happened between the 17th and 20th that made them change their minds and instead of going back to Utah said they were walking to SD? The LE statement said the mother spoke with James who was in Brawley on the 17th and that they were going back to Utah the next day (18th) what did they do from the 18th-20th and what made them change direction?

One would think the phone would be important to them since they shared the one phone so it's strange they lost it at the market and didn't go back to get it.

There is a big missing piece somewhere in here!

perhaps someone offered them something (money?) to do something (again, Brawley, close to the border) not on the up and up...

I try hard not to form theories and then fit the facts, but given what has been reported, this just doesn't sound good. Please please be safe somewhere... hospitals checked by family I hope (hate to assume)...

Quoting my own post- this case just gets stranger by the minute. I don’t even know what to think right now

No kidding. I mean how much money for rent could these two kids have which would make it worth transporting them to Brawley to get rid of them?

Makes no sense whatsoever. Someone is not telling the whole truth here.

My high school was small, if we made it to CIF playoffs we always ended up in Brawley. Even back then it wasn't a great place. I hope these two contact family soon.

Isn’t there another case a of a GF and BF literally disappearing after a purported trip to Brawley recently?
It’s so strange that in 112 degree dry heat they somehow survived from the 17th - the 20th without transportation and then the phone “lost”, you’re only life line. Folie a’ duex vibes...

yep. i think you are referring to this young couple who vanished off the face of the earth with a link to brawley. the bf was waiting to be picked up by his gf in brawley, and their car was found deserted in beaumont. i immediately thought of these 2 when i saw this case about stacey and devin.

now perhaps there is no connection, but it's so unusual that 2 seemingly nice young couples have gone missing in that area. it's one thing for one person to go missing, happens all the time everywhere, but these are both couples that have gone missing together. that stands out as odd to me. moo.

I think in this case the Brawley connection will turn out to be related to drugs. Since Devin & Stacey seem not to be with the person who transported them any longer, it seems either something went wrong, or it really was a hoax like someone else pointed out. Now they are hoofing it, headed to San Diego.

When they spoke to the cop, they did not ask for help. That tells me they are going to try making it on their own, Maybe thinking they can get jobs in San Diego, who knows? Hopefully they reach out to family soon.

How did this couple get to St. George in the first place?

Did they have their own car? Presumably, they were in someone else's car in Brawley. If their ultimate goal was to get to California to look for work, why would they leave a deposit in St George? (I guess I read on social media, FB, what the amount might have been, it was substantial for a young couple).

Are there any St George locals here? Maybe we can get a family member to join us.

This is along the lines of my thinking although I am thinking other things too. It's possible where they don't have a phone they don't know they have been reported as missing. I had wondered if that way to get to SD was possibly a trucking route, and if someone picked them up and gave them a ride. It still seems like the boy at least would have reached out somehow or at least tried to contact his mother to let her know what was happening. Based off what his mom is saying he always contacted her, so it's unnerving that he hasn't tried and it's now been a long time past without contact.

If that road is a trucking route at all, it would be beneficial to get word to the truckers to keep an eye out on the road to SD. At this point, it would have been 10 days since LE talked to James asking if he was alright so I doubt they would still be walking along that road towards SD.
Stranger and stranger...

Perhaps @chihuahua could help........... Chi?

So maybe they got to St. George and realized the address didn't exist or the people living there had no clue about a rental. These kids are to embarrassed to tell mom they have been scammed. But why go to Brawley at all? Why not go straight to San Diego? Did they have a car? If so, where is the car?

UPDATE: 8-29-19
On Tuesday August 20, 2019 at 12:49 am, a couple were driving in a remote area of El Centro Ca, as they were approaching the intersection of W Evan Hewe and Austin Rd, they spotted a young couple walking along the desolate road, they immediately called 911 in fear of the condition the two might have been in , with temperatures being 112 degrees that day.
A deputy showed up right away to speak with the couple, they both had valid ID’s and were identified as Stacy May Best and James Devin Boley. The deputy asked if they were OK and James said they were, he told him that they were headed to the town of Seely and from there to San Diego all on foot.
The deputy advised them that it was not a good idea given the heat, along with the rough terrain to attempt such a difficult task. He noted that they only had one bottle of water between the two of them to share. The clothing they were wearing is listed on his report as Stacy wearing jeans and a pink shirt, James was wearing jeans and a white shirt. James jeans and a white shirt.
On Thursday August 22, 2019 James mom Pam had grown extremely concerned when she had not spoken with him since Saturday 8-17-19 when he had called her from Brawley, Ca to say that he and Stacy had made it safely and they would be returning to Utah the following day with their roommates. After making several calls it became apparent the two never made it back to Utah. She then filed a missing person report in Brawley on 8-22-19 .A few hours after filing the report she placed a call to James’s phone , for the first time in days someone had finally picked up, the person identified themselves as an employee of a market in Seely ,Ca his phone had been found there.
Law Enforcement has the phone and are going through it, along with viewing security footage to verify that it was James who lost the phone there.
As of today, we know that the license plate numbers Law Enforcement had obtained from a car near where they spoke to them, belonged to the couple who dialed 911 to get them help.
It is unknown what James and Stacy have been through, one theory is they were victims of a Craigslist scam with the roommates who took their money in Utah for a room for rent. Those same roommates immediately talked them into going, on a road trip to California, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. If seen please dial 911 – Imperial County Sheriff’s Dept at
