Of course the prosecutors never called the mom to the stand. To me, it makes it obvious she knew and possibly involved and would have dismantled their case and chance of conviction.

I also think prosecutor had visions of a deja vu a la Cindy Anthony, and perjury!

IMO, the idea that she pulled the baby out of the toilet after birth shows her utter confusion about what to do.

I speculate that the answer to this question was that at this point, her mother loomed larger as a much scarier and and riskier authority figure than the doctor. I bet in her calculations of the risk, it seemed way worse to make another trip to the doctor (which she seemed unlikely to do without her mother's involvement or knowledge based on their ~one million text messages about the first appointment). I think it still fits the pattern we've seen from her -- she chose the path that seemed the least scary and avoided what was about to happen until it blew up.

I think this might actually also be why she returned to the same medical practice in July even though that was a terrible idea if she wanted to keep her secret -- it was the path of least resistance to just go where her mother planned for her to go rather than do the adultish legwork of seeking out another doctor. (I also think deep down she was having some guilt and her subconscious sent her back to the place where someone would ask her the truth, but...)

I wonder if she ever had a plan on any level prior to the birth. Or if so focused on getting through milestones of prom and graduation and so distracted with her weight and workout and clothes and Destin trips and boyfriend and keeping her mom at bay that she just suppressed reckoning with it at all.

I think Skylar was vulnerable to the psychological pressure applied by the detective's "aggressive" use of the Reid interrogation techniques. And that she made a false confession. And that she has been damaged by a twisted mother, and that her immediate family is entirely dsyfunctional.

But I also believe the defense offering up a vague diagnosis of "dependent personality order" borders on the absurd. And that it was a mistake.

Why do you say “aggressive”? Who are you quoting? I missed that post.

To the burning of her baby, I read all of the 2nd interrogation & I'm paraphrasing but the investigator asked something along the lines of "and where did you burn the baby?" and she said "IN THE BAG".

This sticks out to me because if she indeed had put the baby into a bag, and then proceeded to try to "cremate it a little" from the bottom corner/the baby's toe, but decided that it "wasn't right" once the bag burned halfway - the baby may have actually had some char or other sort of fire artifact once she removed it from the bag & tossed it into the hole.

So I'm not throwing out the whole cremation thing either. I just don't see myself or my 18 year old being coerced to say anything of that sort, no matter how flustered.

I've seen this too in at least one article, but I'm not sure it is correct. There was certainly no evidence at trial that the doctor agreed, reluctantly or not, to help Skylar deceive her mother by prescribing her birth control pills despite the fact she was pregnant. The doctor testified that they had already prescribed the birth control pills, but canceled the prescription after learning Skylar was pregnant. My suspicion is that the pharmacy messed up and didn't cancel the prescription as directed, as there was some discussion on this subject during when Skylar was talking to her parents after the first police interrogation, and the mom says something about the pharmacy calling to say the prescription was ready. In any event, these unsourced comments in articles are not before the jury, as there was no evidence along those lines presented at trial

Thank you for clarifying because I wondered about the doctor doing this. My point was more about how fixated the father was on this one particular point, thinking this was the answer to everything, when actually it was just one more piece of fudge in a long list of lies and omissions by Skylar. She could have gone home and told her parents that she was pregnant, but she didn't. Instead, she used a birth control prescription (however it was obtained) to bamboozle them just a little more.
Her mother might have suspected that Skylar might be pregnant, and arranged the doctor's appointment as an indirect way to find out the truth. Skylar comes home with birth control pills, so it must be okay.
Skylar is lying so reflexively, she probably doesn't even know the truth of what happened herself any more.

Sorry if this has been addressed before but I can't go back and read all the posts -- I just watched the video of Skylar and her parents. One of the first questions that pops in my mind is what was she going to do if the baby was born alive? Her parents did not ask her that in the video and I didn't hear that question being asked by the detective in the parts of the initial interrogation that I heard. It's very strange. What was her plan for the baby after a live birth?? As far as I can tell she had none. JMO.

BSR introduces "murdering her" and detectives completely ignored her.

Detectives were trying to ascertain the burial location in her backyard, and out of the blue BSR blurts out "Am I going to be in trouble for murdering her?"

Detectives completely ignore BSR's question, and continue asking questions about burial, flowers.

Prior to this, detectives had only covered timeline of birthing story - labor, delivery, etc., and the burial location. Not once during the entire interview did anybody say the word "murder" except for BSR.

The following changes nothing regarding this trial, but I had a wild thought ....

Maybe she really did not realize she was pregnant. She had erratic periods (likely due to eating disorder) and some sort of bleeding or spotting during the pregnancy if I remember correctly. It was late in the pregnancy when she found out. And the baby was not Brandon’s, her current boyfriend. Not only would she have to face her parents, Brandon would also learn and may leave her. So she was putting off confronting anyone, including herself. Blocked it out as best she could.

All just a hypothetical, of course, and I have no way to know if any is likely.

I didn’t hear of skull fractures. The testimony was that the various segments of skull bone would not ever have been fused; rather, they would have been joined by a membrane which would have been decomposed when found.

I am not sure why we are talking about a corner that possibly didn't even testify in this trial. It makes no difference to me how much money they make. They are elected to their position.

As this case dates back to July 2017 - many of the original MSN news articles/videos no longer available. I'm trying to determine a couple of things:

1. At conclusion of July 20, 2017 interview #2 at police station, it appeared that BSR was going to jail that evening, and would be seeing a judge in Lebanon on July 21, 2017. Not finding anything about whether she was just detained, arrested, or released to her parents without ever seeing the jail. Do you have any info for her on this date? (Only see Warren County Jail booking for August 4, 2017 at 3:31 pm).
2. BSR was indicted, arrested, charged, on Friday, Aug 4, 2017 on multiple counts, and arraigned on Monday, Aug 7, 2017 in Warren County Court. Bail was set at $50,000, and Judge ruled BSR would be monitored electronically if she made bail. Is she also still on house arrest since 2017 or has that been lifted?
