Suspect caught on camera tossing dead woman into dumpster identified, arrested for murder: Reports

[...]

The arrests come after investigators on Thursday released surveillance video of a man driving up to a dumpster at a car wash early that morning, taking a suitcase from the trunk and throwing it away. Investigators believe that person was Anthony Cuevas.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle — a small, blue, four-door car — on Friday and executed search warrants around the city looking for him, according to Sgt. Franklyn Ortega of the Pueblo Police Department.

KRDO-TV reports that multiple people have posted pictures of Cuevas on Facebook and said he killed his mother. Authorities have not confirmed the information. bbm

Police initially were not sure if the body was real or if it was a Halloween prop, according to KKTV. Investigators eventually towed the entire dumpster from the scene.

Pueblo neighbor remembers her slain friend

“Someone showed me the photos on their phone. I was so sad and in shock.”

Brown lives adjacent to Maria A. Cuevas-Garcia — the person police identified Monday as the victim of Pueblo’s latest homicide.

Cuevas-Garcia’s body was found by police in a suitcase thrown into a dumpster at a car wash on Pueblo’s South Side last Thursday. Brown said she immediately called police and a whole team of undercover detectives showed up at her home.

“I didn’t want it to be her. I was hoping that it was an accident. It is hard to be an accident being dumped like that in a bag in a dumpster,” Brown said as she stared across the street to what was once her “closest everyday friend’s” home.

“I was hoping that maybe she had a stroke and her kids panicked.”

Brown said that Cuevas-Garcia was the sweetest person.

[...]

“She was close with other neighbors and her family, but I was the one that she came over to all the time. We shared food; we shared stories.”

ETA: Victim's husband and step father of suspect just passed July 13, 2019. I'd say financial motive but suspect had to know he'd get caught fairly soon....
