On November 1, 2019 at approximately 10:00 PM, Abe Gonzalez, a 17 year old resident of Island Lake, was last seen by his father walking out the front door of his home in Island Lake. He said that he was going out to get some fresh air. Later that evening Abe was seen at a home in the 26000 block of Morey St. attending a party. This area is in unincorporated Lake County. He was seen leaving the home on foot by and by himself shortly after midnight on November 2, 2019. It is believed that Abe’s cellphone is not working; we were told that the battery was reportedly spent.

Island Lake Police were notified of this on November 2, at 6:35 PM by his father since he had never returned home. A full canvass of the neighborhood was conducted. We interviewed everyone who had been with Abe earlier as well. Foot patrols were also conducted. Being unsuccessful with these searches, we requested assistance from Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team on Sunday morning at 7:30 AM. MCAT has drones that can be used to search off road areas. These drones were used to search wooded and open field areas. This search didn’t produce any results either. We then requested that the Illinois/Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs assist us. They arrived later in the afternoon of November 3rd and continued searching until night fall. These specialized canines weren’t to locate Abe.

At this time, we have exhausted our leads and ask that anyone with any information about his whereabouts, contact the Island Lake Police Department at 847.526.2100. He was last seen wearing a Grey hoodie, blue jeans and white shoes. He was walking westbound on Maple Av. in unincorporated Lake County. Lake County Sheriff’s department have been contacted to assist in the search efforts with the aid of their canine and an investigator.

The temperature that night was in the 20's. With windchills, it may have been in the teens. With just a sweatshirt, he could easily have been overcome by hypothermia as he tried to make his way home. If so, they may find him burrowed somewhere as that's usually a body's response to the last stages of hypothermia. Praying for his family.

Body found near where Island Lake boy went missing in unincorporated Wauconda

This is heartbreaking.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the body, which has not yet been officially identified, was found by sheriff’s detectives and auxiliary detectives searching on foot around 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The body was a short distance southwest of Slocum Lake completely submerged and covered in ice in a swamp, Covelli said.

Dear Dre,
I live 5 minutes away from where he was found. People here know that the body found is Abe and there are a lot of upset people here. It just has not been made public yet.
Respectfully

Another one just a few minutes away from me. Every parent's worst nightmare, I can't imagine. :( Rest in peace, Abe.
