***GUILTY*** Mark Sievers - 1st Degree Murder & Conspiracy

I was expecting hung or NG based on the mood in here the last few days! Wow!

I was beginning to think that I was out on a limb all by myself in thinking that the evidence was overwhelming in pointing to him being guilty. Then I started reading all the doubt in here and I must say it surprised me. I have always felt that it was a no brainer and that the jury would see the very same thing. I'm glad that I was right in this instance. Justice has been served, IMO.

5 minute break because jurors emotional

The things these poor jurors had to see and hear were horrifying. I can't even imagine the pain they must have felt being the ones who were charged pronouncing his guilt. And, to know they have to come back next week to decide if MS is in prison for life or goes to death row. I wish each of them peace and healing.

I knew Guilty or Hung.... I do think the closing totally helped pull it all together. I felt MUCH better after Ross finished the closing and even after Mummert was done. I was thinking hung before closing or 2nd.. i didn't think 12 would agree on 1st degree... i think the judge explaining the PRINCIPLE not having to be there SLOWLY and DELIBERATELY to the jury helped them understand. I don't think JRR's jury understood as well.

I think those of us on here that have read more of the discovery were just very surprised SO much was left out of this trial. But State knew what they were doing... and it worked. HAVING a bit more faith in FL juries after this trial.

So glad to see this. I haven’t posted much in this forum but have followed closely. So grateful that Teresa’s family has a measure of justice, I’m guessing it doesn’t erase much of their pain IMO but hopefully it will help start their healing process.

WOW -- GUILTY !

Hearing GUILTY sure wiped that smirk off MS's face … I watched the verdict on Court TV and seriously, you could actually see real tears in his eyes.

Now all 3 are done, behind bars. Amen !

ITA. He was absolutely stunned. The first real emotion he's shown, too.

It was very eye opening to watch him from the minute he re-entered the courtroom until the minute he exited to go back to jail. One analyst described it best - "We watched Mark Sievers transform before our eyes".

I've seen all kind of reactions before but this one was something else. I do think it concerned him that the jury came back so quickly because he looked concerned early. Then it just spiraled until he couldn't control his emotions at all.

I guess it may change, but this is MS's witness list for mitigation:

  • His stepmom.
  • Dr Lee Underwood, forensic psychologist
  • Jeffrey Giordano, investigator/mitigation specialist

Docket #485

WHERE is BONNIE? She was SO vocal and defending him for so long. so ONE person that is known personally to him.. his STEPMOM? WOW just WOW. Wonder what Mrs. P is thinking right now. And i REALLY want to know if she did meet him at the beach that day.

Yeah I was relying on this thread to gauge things bc I couldn’t stand the pace of the state’s questioning from the couple witnesses I watched. This place is usually on point but was way off in this case.

Well, you're welcome, everyone. I told you the verdict would come between 5 and 7 because I'd be out to dinner. Happy to deliver! (I did get in my car in time to quickly turn CourtTV on on my phone and hear the jury being polled.....just a wee bit late for the GUILTY verdict!). So happy!!! Mr. Hunter did a GREAT job tying it all together.

ETA: Actually, I didn't even eat anything. I only had a beer. So, the next time we're on verdict watch I'm happy to take a Blue Moon for the team. Seems to work.
