That pod 6 just felt heavy, sad and kind of hopeless. Strong appeals for police help and community help too.

What’s the purpose of the cops holding vital cards so close to their chest? What have they got to lose by putting everything on the table?
That’s the hardest thing to process even family has not been privy to all. Why keep anything from us all why has it been swept under the carpet. Why hold any information back why pretend it’s ok and lines of enquire are no longer relevant because it’s been passed on, it’s truly heart breaking.

Edit: double post.
Sorry South Aussie! Didn't know you had just placed my timeline!

1. If this becomes a 'foul play' investigation, there is a lot of information that should not be made public prior to a trial
2. Everything will be revealed at the inquest, unless the Coroner says that any info will be suppressed

Chiatos, could you please also add to your new info that at 0:56am the final Google location was recorded "near town".

As well, between 2 and 4am is when the police say there was a "drop in phone signal".

TIA

I don’t get holding information back from Theo’s family. Esp when the cops theory is that Theo went up the cliffs and into the water. If it’s just misadventure, as rocket said what do they have to lose by telling how they came to that conclusion?

Because it may not be misadventure. That is the initial conclusion, based on the facts that they have.
The Coroner will decide further, and that is when all of the info will be revealed - unless the Coroner suppresses any of it (for a possible arrest/trial/further investigation).

Thankyou! :)

Whoa, he went faster along the sandy, dark Milne fire trail track than along the residential, uphill bitumened streets after the rec field?

Pretty sure he checked GMs at the T intersection too (stopped there for 2minutes?).

SIX Maps This map site gives a clearer view. When you look at the cement slab in here can see it is a fair way in, he had a reason to go there, IMO it is not random and we can rule out him looking for somewhere to go to the toilet if he was walking up and down it. Also a good look at the cliff on this map. Not sure why signal would be weaker if he was on it as is more open there then at the bottom of Cosy and closer to the lighthouse. Would be good to test this somehow (safely!). Drop in signal does not seem like enough evidence to assume he was on the cliff. If signal not affected by sleep mode then maybe finding out where signal strength is weaker may provide clues as to where the phone, and possibly Theo were. Though the 2 to 6 am time frame coinciding with sleep mode may explain the weaker signal. Am very curious about after 6 am. We know phone did not go flat as pinged at 1.42 pm. So was the signal still weak after 6 am? If so why say just to 6 am? Same with sleep mode. Something on the phone very likely changed after 6 am and for some reason they are not saying what.

Even more reason to be transparent if it’s a straightforward accident wouldn’t you say? It comes across a bit like they’ve reached a neat conclusion and that’s the end of it. Hope the coroner is a good one.

With ya all the way on that. IMO

No, I wouldn't say.

I am sure the family is frustrated. But privacy procedures are there for a reason. The family will receive the police brief at the inquest. It is one of their entitlements.

They are not the first family to be frustrated by police procedures, and they won't be the last.
I think that I am yet to follow a case here on WS where there hasn't been family frustration.

I get that people don't like it, but that is the way it is, in my experience.
I also get that people don't like to hear that.
The police will be fully accountable at the inquest. They know that.

The comment in the podcast about them responding no comment referred to the coroner was like they just dont give a rats. IMO

Awesome Chiatos!

I believe that "23:08 he stops briefly in Kingsley" is the initial google map search of how to get back to hostel.

Here's specifics of messages:

- 00:20 Sent Facebook messenger to friend in French ‘ugh, in September or something?' in response to discussion with his friend about the band U2's upcoming tour of Australia. (note how it was more than just 'ugh')

- 00:23 Watched YouTube ‘Burger Quiz’ show for 1 mins 50 sec.

- 00:56 Sent WhatsApp message to stepsister in Belgium of a kiss emoji and 'merci’.

Edit: can we also include reference to when phones pinged in town momentarily? This episode mentioned a previously unrevealed ping.

I know they said it is likely unreliable data, but it could mean the phone was moving and temporarily got close to another tower?

The Lighthouse podcast: Weak signal another piece in Theo Hayez puzzle

Doubts have been raised about the police theory that Theo Hayez was lost and alone the night he vanished in Byron Bay, as detectives come under fire for denying his family crucial details.

A detective told Theo’s father, Laurent Hayez, and other family members at a meeting in September that it was suspected he was trying to get back to his hostel and didn’t know where he was.

Google Explains How It Handles Police Requests For Users' Data

"It says they need a search warrant — which means they'd first have to show a judge "probable cause" of a crime. Police face less of a challenge, though, to find out who owns a particular Gmail address. All that takes is a subpoena — no probable cause required, and — often — no judge."

Google Explains How It Handles Police Requests For Users' Data

A bit about inactive or ‘sleep’ mode which is often the cycle the PROVIDER puts your phone on. It’s from the first thread but am reposting it here.

When providers see you using or checking phone, it’s put on ‘active’ mode (length of time determined by provider), where it will be regularly scanned to register it with closest tower so that it’s ready to receive and send data. This registering with tower is commonly called a ping.

However, your phone isn’t consistently pinged. There are measures to minimise waste of resources. When a provider sees you are not active for a while, your phone is put on ‘sleep’ where it will not register with tower. Unless you receive a call or text during the sleep cycle, I think.

It will remain on ‘sleep’ until the ‘sleep’ mode is up (length of time determined by provider). At which point, tower will ping it and if still no activity on your end, it will restart another ‘sleep’ cycle.

Alternatively, your phone will stop ‘sleep’ mode whenever you use or check it, this will restart a new ‘active’ cycle and your phone will start regularly pinging with towers again.

Hope this helps.

What the podcast doesn't reveal is if after the first sleep mode ended, did it stay on active (would mean phone WAS used)? Or enter another sleep more (would mean phone was NOT used)?
