Hello all,

I’ve created a ‘flow-chart’ (mentally) about some ideas of how LE can perhaps glean more information for this case provided they haven’t thought of this already. I will spare you most of the primitive beginnings of my thought process for brevity’s sake.

SBM...

Then it hit me. Cable Technicians. I know most or maybe ALL cable providers require the customer to be home or at least present to provide these technicians access by way of formal policy (that old line they give you when you need service of “okay we can come between this time and this time Tuesday” that many of us I’m sure have heard before...then we have to work something out so we are home/in office/have a trusted person provide access because you don’t give your key to these workers).

Now I’m not sure how prolific having cable or high speed internet access is in Delphi or even the surrounding Counties, but if some type of workforce report could be obtained about the employees of local cable companies with regard to those technicians that enter the home or office setting, and that group were asked to review the information available from LE for this case, it may ring a bell and lead to some great tips

I spoke with a close friend who previously was a Cable Tech and I was astonished at how observant he was. He could remember and identify locals by voice if they were in the same grocery store, without even having to see them. He told me stories of families arguing and fighting while he was doing his job. Stories of homes and offices that were disheveled. He could tell when someone was ‘off’ and strange. But most of all, he told me he had basically been in every house in his huge neighborhood and even when nothing stuck out to him, he could still remember many voices and names associated with these homes.

He explained by saying the job becomes so second-nature that you can almost do it with your eyes closed. After a while, you become a little bored and you just listen. You’re not going in there blasting a portable stereo since people are present and you likely have a partner, so headphones or earbuds tend to interfere with the work flow and so you stay entertained by listening to the customers.
All MOO

Anyone else have thoughts on this or other ideas? Feel free to correct me on any of this or to chime in.

So much for brevity!

@MonstrSquad, great, thoughtful insights you've shared here! Sometimes the "obvious" is *not* all THAT "obvious" -- especially to individuals very close to a situation (i. e., in this case, LE themselves may have never thought of considering cable techs, or vendors who must gain access to local residents' houses *while* the residents are inside their house). As you have suggested, a cable tech could be exceptional "eyes and ears" into places that LE might never even *think* of entering...

This little "tidbit" just *may* be a part of the "missing puzzle piece" to bring the killer to justice. May that justice come *soon*!

I've often wondered about the warning LE gave right away as well. It's not the "normal" type of response that we typically hear. Come to think of it, nothing with this case is normal.
MOO

Normally I would think of it as just a generic “keep your eyes on your kids” statement. But seeing as it was also said LE believed there was no threat to the community, I’m not so sure.

IMO this person is an outcast and a weirdo, someone who can't make it with girls. he could be a guy that is sort of subversive and a nerd of some kind, like listening on police radios and following railway chatter etc on a shortwave radio .

mOO
So the day after they were murdered the police knew that “young locals” were responsible yet in 34 months not one of them has talked? Very, very, unlikely.

I had a case ten years ago where a 9th grade boy was found murdered in a creek. Within three days the 14 year old girl friend of one of the (four) defendants came forward and told what she knew. When teenagers are involved the case will almost solve itself.
That makes sense and I agree. This is too serious of a crime for a teenager not to come forward.

What's your opinion regarding the warning LE gave after the bodies were found and identified, to make sure you know what your kids are into?
Think HS cliques.....well contained cliques. Cliques can have codes they abide by, and secrets that bind them. And, parents who are quite happy that their kid qualifies for such a clique. That's what I think we have here. I think the second sketch of an All American Boy supports my theory.

Normally I would think of it as just a generic “keep your eyes on your kids” statement. But seeing as it was also said LE believed there was no threat to the community, I’m not so sure.

MOO They were small town sheriffs saying things without a media person, MOO it always seems messy when that happens.

What was the warning? I'm sure I saw it, but I don't remember it.

It just seemed odd to me that after the obligatory and expected " know where your children are and what they're doing" (which the girl's adults did) ISP Riley chose to add the BBM below.

Abby and Libby were dropped off around 1:45 to hike and take pictures and were allowed approximately an hour and a half before Libby's dad was to pick them up, not a lot of alone time at all for young teens.

Their parents/ guardians knew where they were and what they were there for. Why the "if nothing else, know what's going on in their lives"? Why even hint that the girls may have been mixed up in anything that parents need to be alert for, that they didn't know about? They were out for a walk.

"Sgt. Kim Riley said parents should keep a close eye on their children. "I think people need to be cautious and careful," Riley said. "Parents should make sure they know where their children are and what their children are doing, and if nothing else, know what's going on in their lives. That's the most important thing I can say at this point in time."

Police ask for assistance in identifying man seen walking on trail where Delphi teens went missing

Re: “So much for brevity!”, aint’ no such thing here, I’m afraid. We’re on Thread 118 and going on 3 years. (I actually reached the limit of 45,000 characters in Media Timeline 7 yesterday, 118 articles in that one post I believe... Btw, new Timelines 8 and 9 in progress, sources not included in Timelines 1-7).

I’m laying the foundation for our BG Arrest party so we’ll have all our quotes and references ready for that big day.

Start thinking about what dishes you guys are going to bring. I’m bringing the booze.
bbm
I will bring a garland of many different flags .... :p

I worked in a rural high school for 20 years, including grades 7 through 12, and 5 years prior to that in a youth treatment facility.

I will attest to knowing for fact that teenagers can keep a secret, including a secret regarding the most grievous of crimes, as I have witnessed the very thing, first hand, on numerous occasions.

Is the case that local teen(s) could be involved here plausible? Indeed it is. Is it fact that they are? No it is not. I suspect only LE would know at this juncture.

I know for fact that gang initiation, not funny, blow it off, small time stuff, but real, fear for your life, gang initiation and activity exist in small town America within the teenage population, including local school districts.

(moo) As for the comment bolded a couple posts above, I have long suspected A&L, one, the other, or both, were involved in or privy to some type of information that led to this murder. (moo)

carry on.

To add to my above statement, just to drive home a point.

I would at times counsel certain adults, and myself included, NOT to press a particular teenager for information relative to a matter, knowing that the child's welfare would be placed in jeopardy should he/she reveal the very information we were seeking.

Remember, snitches get stitches, and in the world of some teens, this is a very real and frightening possibility.

I post here, often times, to do my little part, to keep this thread alive :)

carry on.

Perhaps something was discovered by LE that the girls family were not aware of and they didn't want to disclose it as it could be crucial in convicting the killer. But when/if this ever gets to trial LE will not be accused of not issuing advice to other parents. This seems to be a vague warning to me. JMO

This is not in response to the above post but goes all the way back to Thread 113 #640 where you asked:

"What department has the lead in this case (in charge)? What other departments are assisting. By “assisting” I mean detectives who do nothing else but work on the case.

How many detectives are on the task force and where is the command post?”

Indiana State Police (Supt. Doug Carter) is probably in charge. Other departments: Delphi Police Department (Chief Steve Mullin) and Carroll County Sheriff’s Department (Sheriff Tobe Leazenby). The FBI was involved from the start but now they may only be dealing with tips relating to persons outside Carroll County.

As at June 25, 2017 they were down to 11 investigators.

My suspicion is that this case is on the brink of being marked “Suspended pending further information”.

I'm hoping I get lucky this time around because your opinion would be much appreciated re what stage you think things are at now. Do you believe it has now gone cold?

"A Washington Post examination of 8,000 homicide arrests across 25 major U.S. cities since 2007 found that in half of the cases, an arrest was made in 10 days or fewer.

The analysis underscores what police leaders and homicide experts have said about the passage of time working against detectives. But it also dispels the notion of a “48-hour rule” that most cases, if solved, are wrapped up in two days. Only 30 percent of the cases led to an arrest within that time frame, the analysis found. Two-thirds of arrests were made within one month. For cases that remained unsolved after one year, 5 percent ultimately led to an arrest.

Snipped .
In other words, there's a 95% chance that this case will never be solved, judging by statistics alone. We all got our hopes up because of the video and audio of the perp.

I agree that for most cases that go unsolved for years, they have a low percentage rate of being solved. But every killer leaves something behind at a crime scene and this guy, well they have a video of him and a voice recording. Most likely a lot more. I think he has a history of this, no way this is his first killing. He was brazen doing what he did in broad daylight, two victims and not getting rid of the phone. He made a mistake and he will get caught. He won't stop, he thinks he got away with it, and his ego and urges will get him caught. He also IMO told someone about this, maybe not in detail, but he bragged to someone. I also think there may be another person involved, but too scared to tell. So for most cases, yes, low percentage to solve, but his case, it will come. One day one of his past "kills" will lead LE to this crime or his future "crime" will lead them back to Delphi and Abigail and Liberty.
I also think his "accent" is from Pittsburgh PA, at least raised there.

I probably chose my words poorly when I spoke about posters with tons of information- then nothing. You are right many of us don’t post for a while- life gets in the way or we just have nothing to add. I can certainly identify with both of those scenarios. I did not intend to raise suspicions on those posters- it was a random thought I should have kept to myself. My apologies.
No worries at all... it does seem, from subsequent replies, that there were some posts that set off a hinky meter or two. I'll have to read some past threads to see which one(s). :)

Carter may appear to be in charge but he is the superintendent of the state police and he has a large police department to run. I assure you that he and the others mentioned not involved in the day by day investigation of the case.

Since no one knows for sure I can surmise that the Indiana State Police is the lead agency with the county and city police also on the task force.

By no means is the case “cold”. I know of someone that they were looking at during the past week.

How will this end up? It’s anyone’s guess but it will be solved.

3) You're taking Leazenby out of context. He didn't say that he personally recognized the voice. He made those comments as a way of showing what people who think they recognize the voice should be saying to themselves. They should be asking themselves, "Where do I know that voice from," etc.

I respectfully disagree, he is saying HE recognizes the voice as do several other people.

His exacts words in the HLN interview with Hendricks are as follows:

“I guess the investigator part of me started to kick in and I’m thinking, like several other people, I know that voice. Who is that? Who is that? And I’m still doing that, thinking who who is this person. I’ve heard that voice somewhere but I to this day I can’t put a name with that voice”

He’s talking about himself not what other people should be asking themselves.
