The Los Angeles City Council adjourned its regular meeting Friday in memory of Nipsey Hussle after approving a motion to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard in the slain rapper’s honor.

The 33-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper — whose real name was Ermias Joseph Asghedom — was fatally shot March 31 in front of The Marathon Clothing store he owned at Slauson and Crenshaw.

Former rap producer Suge Knight says Nipsey Hussle’s loyalty to his neighborhood could have contributed to his shooting death, the incarcerated felon said in a recent interview.

“A lot of artists like Nipsey have the same problem that I had. We are too loyal to our neighborhood,” Knight told TMZ.

He said rappers are often hesitant to move from their hometowns, because “when you go around Hollywood it’s all watered down.”

One of the victims who survived the Nipsey Hussleshooting has been arrested for violating his parole — which prohibited him from hanging out with the slain rapper and other known gang members.

Kerry Lathan, 56, was taken into custody Friday by authorities just days after being treated and released from the hospital, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

An LAPD spokesman told The Post that Lathan had been out on parole after serving a 20-year sentence for murder.

He was reportedly picked up at his halfway house.

According to TMZ, Hussle — an admitted member of the Rollin 60’s Crips — was helping Lathan get some new clothes on the day he was killed following the ex-con’s release from prison.

ETA: Reportedly, Nipsey was doing a good deed clothing Latham after 20 years in prison. I'm curious how Marathon was able to employ felons and/or ex-convicts under these circumstances...

Police told the Associated Press that a citizen's tip led to his arrest by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in Bellflower, California, located near Long Beach and about 20 miles south of the spot where Hussle was slain.

After detectives from the LAPD's South Bureau Homicide unit verified that he was the same man they were searching for, Holder was transferred to their custody. He is currently housed in the LAPD's 77th Street jail, according to booking records.

I had never heard of this rapper prior to his death, and then all I could think about was the late great comedian Nipsey Russell.

Attorney for the man accused of killing Nipsey Hussle withdraws after threats to his children | Daily Mail Online

The lawyer who had been representing the man accused of murdering community activist Nipsey Hussle has withdrawn from the case citing threats made against his children.

Chris Darden was set to make his final appearance in the case on Friday after filing a motion to withdraw from representing Eric Holder, 29, the man accused of fatally shooting Hussle, 33, on March 31 in Los Angeles.

Darden didn't specifically say why he was leaving Holder's defense team, though he did note that his children had received threats over his choice to uphold the constitution and provide Holder with 'counsel of his choice.'

ETA: I thought this was also career suicide from day one..

Former O.J. Simpson prosecutor leaves Nipsey Hussle case after threats

The issue of race has followed Chris Darden through two of the most high-profile cases of his career.

In 1995, some called the black lawyer a traitor for prosecuting the murder case against O.J. Simpson. Now, he said, his brief stint defending a black man accused of gunning down the beloved rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle has brought threats to him and his family.

He cited those threats Friday when he announced his decision to step down from the case.

“After centuries of a history of black men hung from trees without trial, or after the thousands of cases of black men tried, convicted and executed without counsel ... I cannot understand why in 2019 some people would deny a black man his 6th Amendment right to counsel of his choice,” Darden wrote in a Facebook post. “Or why defending such a man should invite threats not only against me but against my children too.”

Grand jury indicts man on murder charges in Nipsey Hussle death

5/21/19

LOS ANGELES - A grand jury has indicted the man suspected of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle during an attack in South Los Angeles on March 31.

Eric Holder, 29, was indicted on one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said.

Authorities said Holder killed Hussle and wounded two other people at the rapper's Slauson Avenue clothing store.

"A judge ruled Thursday that transcripts from the grand jury hearing of a man accused of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle should be released, saying that unsealing the documents would not jeopardize his right to a fair trial.

In his ruling, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry cast doubt on arguments that potential jurors would be affected.

“We live in a society that is moving away from the printed page,” Perry said, saying that as long as prosecutors “keep a lid on” the video evidence in the case, he didn’t think there would be a problem."

"Holder and the woman then drove off. While in the car, Holder pulled out a gun and told the woman to drive around the block. She testified that he began loading the gun in the car. He directed her to pull over and said that he’d be right back.

That’s when he walked up to Hussle and fired multiple rounds at him from two different guns, the prosecutor said. He then allegedly kicked Hussle in the head, the documents say, with Hussle saying, “You got me.”

He jumped back into the car and instructed the woman to drive away. When she asked what happened, he said to drive or he would slap her."
