"Police feel confident they have ruled out Murnane disappearing in the downtown area near her home and getting lost because of illness or injury. Police haven’t found anything to suggest Murnane had suicidal or depressive thoughts or that she talked about disappearing."

Sounds like she was heading in the direction of her appointment, if the dogs tracked from her home to Kachemak Way from her home near Main & Lee. East End road is just a short way further in that direction.

Seems to me that as someone who had backpacked around Europe, she's savvy enough not to have gotten into a car with a total stranger. But Homer is a friendly place, and she grew up there, so there aren't that many "strangers" in October, not peak tourist season.

I hope Duffy can be found safe.

FBI, Troopers have been aiding in search for missing woman ‘since day 1’ | Homer News

Murnane disappeared on Oct. 17 after leaving her Main Street apartment for an appointment at the SVT Health & Wellness clinic on East End Road. The last confirmed sighting is a security camera photo showing her leaving the Maintree Apartments, a supported housing complex, about 12:15 p.m. that day. Murnane had a 1 p.m. appointment at SVT Health and Wellness Center, about a 1-mile walk from her home. She did not show up for that appointment.

Homer Police and Alaska State Troopers issued a Silver Alert on Oct. 19 for Murnane after she was reported missing that day. Anyone with information on her whereabouts can call Homer Police at 907-235-3150 or the Silver Alert hotline at 855-SILVR99 or 855-745-8799. A Silver Alert is for an adult considered a vulnerable person.

The weekend after Murnane went missing, search and rescue dog teams from Anchorage tracked her in the downtown area, picking up scents from Main Street to Lee Drive, Svedlund Street, Pioneer Avenue and Kachemak Way. Search dogs followed strong scents to Pioneer Avenue area near Cosmic Kitchen, in front of Homer’s Jeans and the Kachemak Bay Campus. In that general area the dogs acted as if there had been what search dog handlers call a “car pick up.”

Shannon Kimball of North Paw K9 Search and Rescue in Anchorage was one of the dog handlers doing that search with her bloodhound. Kimball said in her training she looks for her dog to show certain body language when the dog perceives a scent changes.

When her dog and another search dog and handler came to that area, both dogs indicated a car pick up.

“To us that tells us something happened there,” she said. “What happened, we don’t know.”

Murnane’s family say they believe someone picked her up in a vehicle and that she has been abducted. Browning said police have officially classified her as missing, not abducted.

Kimball said dogs and handlers also searched nearby intersections on the theory that Murnane might have been picked up and dropped off nearby. The teams found nothing.

Murnane’s family has added a $10,000 reward

The family might organize another canvass effort if the weather warms up, but that nothing has yet been scheduled.

Murnane’s family has added a $10,000 reward.

She carried a pink-and-black plaid purse with a shoulder strap and carried her wallet, cellphone and identification. Police said she does not drive or own a vehicle and got around by walking.

Mother fears for daughter Anesha “Duffy” Murnane missing from Homer, Alaska home since October
Sara Berg never went more than a few days without talking to her daughter, Duffy. They were close, more like sisters than mother and daughter.

[...]

Sara and her husband, Ed, who is Duffy’s stepfather, were away at their vacation home in Mexico in October. That is when Sara last spoke to her daughter.

“She was excited about coming down to join us for a little bit,” Sara said. “But suddenly she was gone. And now we’re here. Here in this nightmare. And we don’t know where she is.”

Duffy’s mother told Dateline that Duffy had a 1 p.m. appointment that day at the SVT Health & Wellness clinic on East End Road, so that’s where she would have been headed at that time. The clinic is about a mile walk from Duffy’s apartment. She never made it to the appointment.

[...]

Duffy’s mother says the family believes someone picked her up in a vehicle and that she has been abducted. Sara told Dateline there has been no activity on Duffy’s bank cards and her phone battery was dead at the time of her disappearance.

[...]

“She did have some medical issues,” Sara added. “She was diagnosed as bipolar. But she was on her medication. She was doing well. ...

[...]

The anguish over Duffy’s disappearance has taken a toll on both her mother and stepfather. Ed suffered an aneurysm last Friday and had to undergo open heart surgery over the weekend.

[...]

The Facebook group Bring Duffy Home, with more than 1,000 members was created for a place to discuss the case and share stories of Duffy.

I've been searching online for any and all leads, but keep coming up empty-handed. Duffy is a relative of a woman that works in my friend's office; she has said that the family does not believe she is alive at this point, but I am still holding out hope. Duffy had been known to travel to Mexico on occasion, but clearly there's no evidence of any plane tickets in her name, etc.

Any possibility the Lithium she just started taking had side effects that caused her to act irrationally? Like getting into cars with strangers?

Her family states that she was emotionally healthy and stable... The only thing that struck me about this case is that she had been communicating with men online some months before she went missing, but that she allegedly stopped a short time later. Deep in my gut I get this feeling she continued talking to someone...

People with bipolar can sometimes be deceptively ok. But really they're having a manic attack. And if she was, in fact, having a mania, then she likely was talking to people on the outside and may be engaging in risky behavior (in my experience)

No news...but her mom posted in mid July

Well it has been 9 months since she has been abducted; that is 40 weeks or 280 days. That is roughly the time it takes to gestate a human. Duffy took 290 days. She was 10 days late on August 12th 1981. There was just so much joy in that 9 months so much anticipation. The midwife in me was singing. The contrast with this last 9 months - the horror - impossible to describe.

Birth and death are so similar. I have birthed close to 300 babies and deathed an equal number of other people, young and old (Vietnam accounts for most of those). Just a transition. Either in or out. 90% of these transitions were sweet lovely occasions with little stress on the transitioner, but great stress on the family.

Well this family is in great stress. Yes, we miss her terribly we cry daily, we feel in our hearts that she is dead, but we NEED the why? How? Where? We need closure. Somebody knows something. Please speak up and keep your ears open to new information. Thank you for listening. Stay safe on all levels. Sara Berg
