CO - Sylvia Richards, 9, sexually assaulted, poisoned, & killed, Jeffrey Beagley arrested, Dec 2019

Agreed 100%.

If you have ever personally known someone who survived sexual abuse as a child you can clearly see they hardly ever reach the potential they would have if they had not been sexually abused. It changes them in a way they can never come back from. They lose part of themselves forever. Bright children, full of life, who could have been anything and had incredible amounts of success as adults, then someone comes along and decides it is okay to break their spirit forever, so they never reach that potential. Instead, they grow to become a much different version of themselves than they would have been.

For example, a victim I know who could have been literally anything she wanted became a young, angry alcoholic through-out her 20's and 30's and later an older anxiety-ridden shut-in who never really knew who she was at all because her abuse haunted her. She never had her own identity because her real one was taken away a long time ago. In social settings, she spent decades adapting ones that weren't really her own, just the ones she thought people wanted her to have. Plus, she became mentally ill with conditions that stemmed solely from the abuse. She made poor life choices she would not have made if not for the abuse. The abuse her 1960's parents knew about and overlooked to keep up their image. She did not get to live what they would nowadays call her "best life". She was a broken version of the person she would have been. Part of her died every time he abused her and she grew up in a time when you simply did not talk about it. She was taught that you didn't talk about those things -- so guess what? She didn't. Not really. Maybe in pieces to me, but not with a professional who could truly help because she was taught to feel shame about it. It is hard to undo that sort of thinking, which in a sense is grooming, grooming by society. At that time, much of society said "SHHHH!" so her abuser got to live his "best life" for many more years and died still being called a good man.

So yes, anyone who sexually abuses a child should get the same sentence as a murderer, because they are murderers of a different kind. They kill opportunities, mental health, the feeling of being safe, future healthy sexual experiences, future relationships, the souls of people, and so much more. They don't deserve to be rewarded for leaving their victims alive. They deserve to be punished for leaving their victims in a perpetual state of suffering and taking away their chance of a healthy life.

They do rob people of life, therefore, they should have theirs taken, too.
I'm not a specialist in American Constitution but I think that a law like that would be found unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court (or maybe one of the 50 state Supreme Courts)...I mean murder and sexual assault (even if the victim is underage) are two different crimes.
They're not equivalent in terms of their social costs.
Murderers take away people's life; rapists don't do that.
Rapists are repugnant and their crimes are hideous but they can't be sentenced as harshly as killers.

And if they were... they'd have no motivation to let their victims live.

I think mom should be charged and she is a social worker which is sad. The house was creepy and macabre, and there was also a camera In the bathroom.

This creep is the father of the mothers baby.

There was child *advertiser censored* and freaky stuff all over the house and a shed which appeared to be used as a sex room.

WTF mom??? I am so sad and furious at this case and just how blind some mothers are.

I agree Nocgirl - WTF mom???

I just checked the Colorado court site - he was supposed to have a hearing tomorrow 12/31 - and it has now disappeared - just like him! :)

There was a several week lag from the time the poor little girl died until the time they determined chloroform poisoning. What was Mom and this guy doing during that time? Did he act normal? He should have know there would be a search warrant on the house.

He wasn't mentioned in the obituary at all. So it's possible that it was known it was a death during an attempted rape but just not chloroform for sure.

I'm not a violent person, to the point I don't support the death penalty. But I'm pretty sure I'd lose it and deal out my own justice if that were my child. :(

Charged? Why?
As far as I know there's no proof she did something illegal.
Maybe she was blind, but being blind is not a crime...

by the sound of the article if she was a social worker she shouldn't have been blind to this . IMO it is up to her to protect her child from obvious danger!!!

He is the father of the moms 1 yr old baby girl.

Trying to wrap my ahead around how Mom didn’t know all this sick *advertiser censored* was in the house.

Does anyone know why this child was in this house? Why she was in his care? Or if he kidnapped her somehow? Maybe others lived in the house, or her family was staying there, but if so, is he family or a family friend?

None of the articles I've seen so far say how he had access to this little girl. I can't help but wonder where her parents were exactly.[/QUOTE

Absolutely. She should be fired. She was also a victim of child abuse. Her parents are not mentioned in the obit. Another poster told me she was in foster care. The father of the 9 yr old just got out of prison. Mom sure knows how to pick them.

100% preventable.
A. Moms have the choice of having no boyfriends while they have young children; or
B. Moms have the choice of not having a boyfriends live with their children; or
C. Moms have the choice of not having live in boyfriends caretaking their children.

Maybe I missed it, but do you have a link that mentions all this?

Do you have a link for any of this info? I mean, if the media or LE has already stated these things as fact, then a link to verify it is required per TOS here. On the other hand, if all this info is just SM posts, we can't really post it or discuss it, as it's considered rumor.
