Woman disappears on Christmas Day; police search for clues
  1. DH lives in Columbus and has not been seen since she walked away from her grandparent’s home during a family gathering.
  2. She was last seen walking toward Shriver Park, 1237 Third Street SE, just after 2:30 p.m. on Wed.
  3. She was wearing jeans, tall black boots with gold buckles, a magenta shirt with purple stripes and a black pea coat.
  4. Her cousin, RA, said DH appeared to be anxious, pacing back and forth in their grandparent’s home, where family had gathered for the holiday.
  5. DH told the family she needed to go for a walk to clear her head and she left her cellphone behind - charging in her car.
  6. After an hour, DH’s father went looking for her.
  7. A neighbor told the family he was outside when DH stopped to give him a hug and wish him a happy Christmas. She then walked toward the park.
  8. DH’s mother, RAH, said her daughter seemed tired from lack of sleep the night before and didn’t have much of an appetite. She saw her daughter walking toward the park just as she was heading to a neighbor’s house.
  9. Though the mother and daughter now live in Columbus, DH is familiar with the area and grew up in Massillon.
  10. The last call on DH’s phone was to a local pastor, asking if there would be a Christmas Day service.
  11. Search parties over the weekend failed to locate her.
  12. JC works with a group of volunteers who have 3 SAR dogs. The group offered to search for DH after seeing posts about the missing woman on Facebook.
  13. At least 70 volunteers participated in the search.
  14. JC and volunteers began searching Fri evening and called off their search at 6 p.m. Sun at the request of LE, who began an official investigation.
  15. Each of the dogs led their handlers to Pearl Avenue SE and Erie Street S.
  16. “It’s pretty tough because by then the trail was three days old,” JC said.
  17. RAH went to the Columbus apt she shares with her daughter to see if she had made her way home. When there was no sign of her, RAH returned to Massillon. She has both sets of keys to the apt in her possession.
  18. Officials in cities such as Columbus and Cleveland, where DH has connections, have been notified of her disappearance. The family has also contacted local airports, hospitals and transportation services.
  19. A public Facebook group was created called “Finding Parris” where family and friends have posted updates on their efforts.
  20. Det. Jason Gohlike, of the Massillon PD, said LE searched wooded areas on the SE side of town Monday with the assistance of Burning River K9 Search and Rescue, a volunteer group with certified cadaver and search dogs.
  21. Anyone with info is asked to call the tip line at 330-830-1735 option 7.

Vigil lifts spirits of family, friends of missing woman
  • Friendship Baptist Church hosted a community prayer vigil Tuesday night attended by family members, friends and acquaintances.
  • “Hopefully, she just needed some time away,” said AA, a cousin who last saw PH on Christmas Day. “We weren’t aware of any problems. She would have told me, her aunt or grandma about it.”
  • PH is a 2011 graduate of Washington High School.
  • Family members have been in frequent contact with Massillon PD.
  • PH's uncle last saw his niece about 1 p.m. on 12/25 prior to taking a nap.
  • About 100 people attended the prayer vigil, which ran about 45 minutes.
  • A handful of prayers were offered by church leaders during the gathering, and choir members sang spiritual hymns, such as Amazing Grace. Eight candles were lit and held by church members as part of the service.
  • Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry was in attendance with her family and offered a few words on behalf of the city.
  • “Our police department is doing everything it can to find this young, beautiful lady,” the mayor said.

It sounds like she just needed to clear her head. Something was happening, if she was antsy(my word). I wonder if she just broke up with someone? Is it possible she went to a payphone and called someone? Maybe since her phone needed to charge and she couldn't talk in front of family. Then she met up with the person or she was taken by?
Just assumptions on my part

News 5 spoke with missing Massillon woman in 2018
[...]

Unfortunately, this family knows heartbreak all too well.

Hopson's brother, 22-year-old Perry Hopson, was killed in April of 2018 in a car crash.

News 5 spoke with Parris Hopson, the now missing woman, when a local high school used her brothers destroyed car for their drunk driving campaign. Her brother was not drunk.

"Anyone that was responsible for displaying the car if feel should be held accountable for the pain and grief that they have brought upon our family and our friends," said Hopson in 2018.

Oh no, still no news? I grew up in that area and was just wondering if anything further had come to light or was happening. I couldn’t find anything elsewhere online either. Thinking and praying for her and her family.

Search for Parris Hopson continues
Though there hasn’t been any sign of her daughter, RAH remains hopeful.

Detective Jason Gohlike said police encourage residents to check their properties for anything out of the norm. Previously, law enforcement officials told community members to cease searching for Hopson.

Gohlike also asked residents to review Christmas Day home security cameras for any sign of Hopson, adding police have reviewed some.

Ohio police say no clues to woman's disappearance Christmas Day
A police tip line has gone silent except for calls from people claiming to have “psychic” information about the case, The Independent reported. Officials will continue to follow new leads if they get any, Massillon Police Det. Jason Gohlike told the paper. There's no reason to suspect foul play, he said.

"An adult can leave at any time without telling anybody,” Gohlike said.

Here's a first I've ever seen of a MP spotlighted in a 'Cheers and Jeers' write-up. Good on the editorial staff at The Review! [bbm]

Jeers ... to whoever knows something about the [Christmas Day disappearance in Massillon of Parris Hopson] and is choosing to stay mum. The police investigation is at a standstill because no credible leads have been reported. Somewhere out there, someone knows something. It’s time to speak up.

Noting:

Rochelle told Dateline she was asked about her daughter’s mental health, but assured them Parris did not have any mental health or drug issues.

[...]

Perry Hopson Jr., Parris’s brother and Rochelle’s only other child, suffered life-threatening injuries in a car crash on June 17, 2017. According to the local Canton, Ohio newspaper, CantonRep.com, an unidentified person was driving Perry’s Oldsmobile Alero and passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Southway Street SW in Perry Township, Ohio, causing a head-on collision. The driver fled the scene and has never been identified.

“Parris was determined to find out what happened to her brother,” Rochelle said. “For our family and for her niece and nephew. She would never walk away from them.”

Rochelle describes Parris as an excellent writer with a bright future. She had previously worked as an event planner and was working in an administrative position with Nationwide in the Columbus area at the time of her disappearance.

I wonder if she was upset about seeing someone and left to get away from them. Perhaps there is something about a family member that she never told anyone. Or she could have gone to confront someone in the neighborhood.

There is a river to the west. If she knew this area, that river might have been a place she knew about and had visited. If she had fallen into the water, her big boots might have been problematic. They would have filled with water. But it was cold out. So I have a hard time imaging her going to that river area.
