HUNTER: How many did Bruce McArthur really kill?
''The rotund landscaping ghoul and former travelling sock salesman is reportedly in failing health and death may come sooner than later.''

“Other than if you believe he’s responsible for the gay strip murders in the 1970s… and many people do… there’s this huge gap in his life from the late 1970s to when he came out of the closet in the early 1990s,” said cold case expert Michael Arntfield, a professor at Western University.

“You have to remember, he was doing his killing carefully, successfully. That didn’t happen over night.”

This murder victim, found in 1989, has the earmarks of Bruce McArthur victims. OPP
''The only hope to bring closure to families whose loved ones have been missing or whose cases have gone unsolved for decades is if it turns out McArthur was involved and that he “does a Samuel Little” and starts talking. Maybe for his conscience. Maybe for his family.''

WARMINGTON: Bruce McArthur is the criminal, not the 'scapegoat' Toronto cop | Toronto Sun
''It is, after all, serial killer Bruce McArthur who’s the bad guy.''

I don't know how to take this article. There are likely true elements to it...with upper brass dumping blame on regular officers.

But, I do wonder if this guy actually stood up for the gay victim(s).
I also wonder about Warmington (the writer of the article) himself. Warmington has not exactly been a supporter of minority victims. One case, where a woman of east Indian descent, disappeared, and he quickly dropped the story. Another time, he seemed to be blaming immigrants, given refugee space in a hotel. When I asked him, he never responded.
No matter...pls let people be safe.

Bruce M is referenced briefly in this article in which Det. Idsinga is investigating the possibility that two recent murders may be related, possibly by a serial killer.
Unrelated to Bruce M, just noting that the two recently murdered men are bearded and darker complected, not unlike BM's victims.
If it turns out to be true that an sk is on the loose and targeting a certain type, will look into other missing and murdered men that were suggested as possible BM victims, but ultimately turned out not to be connected.
fwiw, imo, speculation.
Could Toronto be dealing with a serial killer?
Sept 14 2020
''Could Toronto be dealing with a serial killer?
That isn't out of the realm of possibilty, according to Toronto Police, after two men were found stabbed to death in the same area, only days apart''.

''The last time Toronto Police admitted they had a serial killer on their hands was Bruce McArthur, who was arrested in 2018 and later found guilty in the deaths of eight men.

"I don't want to raise any fear or any panic, I just want people to be aware that this is something that we're looking at, the possibility that these are connected," says Idsinga. "We need people to be aware of their surroundings."

Missing persons review expected to call for ‘extensive’ changes in wake of Toronto police handling of Bruce McArthur case
''A former Ontario judge is expected to make “extensive” recommendations for changes to how police conduct missing persons probes, after accessing never-before-seen police records and interviewing more than four dozen officers in the wake of the Bruce McArthur case.

Retired Court of Appeal Justice Gloria Epstein is in the final stretch of her high-profile review of how Toronto police handle missing persons cases, a probe launched amid public outrage over the investigation into McArthur, who killed eight men from the city’s Gay Village between 2010 and 2017.''

'Serious flaws' in how Toronto Police conduct missing person probes | Toronto Sun
''The review by retired Ontario Court of Appeal Justice Gloria Epstein found “police could have done better” to stop gardener Bruce McArthur’s seven-year “reign of terror” in Toronto’s Gay Village where he was able to murder eight men between 2010 and 2017. All his victims were gay or bisexual and all but two were people of colour.''

Peel Const. Marie-Catherine Marsoter was diligently investigating the disappearance of resident Abdulbasir (Basir) Faizi when she twigged to the similarities with the Toronto case of missing Skandaraj (Skanda) Navaratnam.

But her calls to Toronto Police weren’t returned — despite three attempts.

“The failure of the Toronto Police to identify the potential connection between these cases — one handed to them on a platter — represents a failure of epic proportions,” Epstein wrote.

I think it is obvious that Toronto Police service let these victims down.
Thank you to Peel Const. Marie-Catherine Marsoter for trying to get them to investigate these killings seriously.

HUNTER: What made serial killer Bruce McArthur tick? | Toronto Sun

''Now, a new documentary called Catching A Serial Killer: Bruce McArthur airing Friday at 9 p.m. on Super Channel Fuse hopes to peel back the layers of this chilling enigma.''

To understand McArthur, Lee said you have to go back to the beginning.

Born in 1951 and raised on a farm northeast of Toronto in a considerably less liberated era, Lee believes that McArthur’s battle with his homosexuality lasted a lifetime.

“He definitely doesn’t fit with what we think when we talk about serial killers,” Lee said, adding that the documentary goes deeper than the “superficial” serial killer-as-monster approach.

Like a lot of his ilk, McArthur probably suffered a traumatic event in his childhood. For him, Lee said it may have been internal torment connected to the church he belonged to.''
It might have been his devout, authoritarian father, his closeted homosexuality or a plethora of other hang-ups.

“In that time and era, the LGBT community was basically frowned upon and more so in that church,” Lee said.''

''He added: “I’m not sure that he had that affirmative experience … instead, McArthur’s life was crumbling. And he had those core beliefs from the church internalized.”

''Privately, cops and other experts will tell you on pain of death, that yeah, in all probability there are other victims of Bruce McArthur.''

Kinda unrelated, but has there been a leak of Dennis Joseph Colby’s killer’s name? He can’t stay anonymous forever.

Interesting, maybe the perp who is believed to have killed DJC, could be responsible for other unsolved murders ? speculation.

Newly identified suspect in 1995 murder died in 2015: police
rbbm.
''In 2018, police say the case was identified as one that should be reviewed for any connections to the McArthur investigation.

While Colby was not identified as one of the victims of the 67-year-old serial killer, officers reviewing the case did find a DNA match for a suspect in the National DNA Data Bank.

Investigators later discovered that the suspect had been staying with Colby around the time of his murder and “strongly resembled” the composite sketch that was previously released. The suspect, police say, also had a history of violence.

The suspect, who died in 2015, would have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Colby’s death.

The man's name will not be released as no charges are being laid, police say.''

''Tens of thousands of people go missing in Canada every year. Retired Judge Gloria Epstein, BCom’72, wants to make sure they’re not forgotten.''
By: Robert Gerlsbeck
Issue: Fall 2021
“Bruce McArthur killed eight people. All were gay or bisexual. All but two were men of colour. All were valued.” So begins “Missing and Missed” a more than 1,200-page report by retired Ontario Court of Appeal Judge Gloria Epstein. It examines how, for years, McArthur, a self-employed landscaper, was able to prey upon Toronto’s Gay Village. His known murder spree lasted from 2010 to 2017, before he was caught, convicted and sentenced to life in prison''

Toronto Police Service :: News Release #51475
''The Toronto Police Service has implemented one of the key recommendations from Judge Epstein’s Report by launching its Missing and Missed Implementation Team. Seven Community Representatives were selected from over 148 applicants bringing forward expertise, lived experiences and years of community advocacy. They are joined by four volunteers, all members of Judge Epstein's Community Advisory Group, who will continue to provide the same advice and support as they did for the initial Review.

Since Judge Epstein delivered her report in April 2021, the Service has created a dedicated team of 16 TPS members who work full time on the implementation of all 151 recommendations. To ensure TPS efforts honour the intent of the Judge’s review and reflect the best interests of the communities most impacted by the review, the Community Representatives will advise the Service throughout the process.

"We cannot do this work alone and we recognize that how we implement these recommendations will affect how successful we are at earning the community’s trust," said Chief of Police James Ramer. "The recommendations also seek to build public confidence in the Toronto Police Service, and to continue to build bridges with members of all the communities we serve. We are lucky to have a group of dedicated Community Representatives who have come forward to help us."

Who is "Napanee John Doe": The unidentified murder victim and the theory linking his death to an Ontario serial killer (kingstonist.com)
''In the fall of 1989, the body of a South Asian man was found in the ditch alongside County Road 14, just outside Enterprise, Ontario. He was bound and gagged, and police determined that his body had been abandoned at the roadside some two weeks before he was discovered. But perhaps most important – and the thing still nagging detectives over 30 years later – is the fact that he was someone’s son, someone’s friend, someone’s coworker. He was someone, and yet his identity in death remains unknown.

For those police officers who have toiled with the case, for many local residents who have wondered about it since, and for the scores of internet sleuths who have theorized that the man could have been a victim of serial killer Bruce McArthur, the hope is that new modelling by an OPP reconstruction artist will light a fire under the cold case and lead to more information answering the primary question: who is “Napanee John Doe”?
