Have you seen anything about this trial? When I google for it - I come up with nothing, but that's because I could be blocked from stuff as I'm in the EU.

Hope you find something as I too would like to know what is going on & want to see JUSTICE for Levi.... I hope you noticed that I put the word "Mom" in quotes - I really do NOT consider her one.

GUILTY - Chase Merritt charged w/murder of McStay Family POST TRIAL THOUGHTS

1/17/20 Update: Court is adjourned until Tuesday, 1/21 morning 8:30am PT. At that time more family members will give victim impact statements and Merritt will be sentenced (hopefully!).
1/21/20 Update: Attorney Maline has filed yet another motion: to disqualify Smith Judge from ruling on remaining motion to reduce sentence. Judge deciding if it’s been “timely filed.” If not, another judge must make the ruling to disqualify. Judge says the motion is not timely-7 months after events complained about. Motion to disqualify denied. Judge is considering a defense motion to throw out verdict due to “cumulative misconduct by prosecutors.” Judge says he won’t watch defense DVD’s apparently showing the misconduct. Judge said there were instances where BOTH sides acted inappropriately. In his experience when counsel acts inappropriately it is to their detriment. Judge finds no misconduct, no prejudice to defendant, motion denied. Judge Smith is now addressing the motion to reduce sentences. Because of the special circumstances of multiple murders, a sentence of death or life without parole is required. Maline wants something less. Judge: Totality of aggravating evidence “overwhelmingly” outweighs mitigating evidence. Motion to reduce sentence denied. Six victim-impact statements coming. Merritt will also speak. Victim impact statements by: Tracey Russell, Summer's sister. Susan Blake, Joseph McStay Sr.’s mother. Michael McStay, Joseph Sr.’s brother. Michael McStay’s wife. Summer's ex husband (no name given). Jonah McStay (Joseph's son). Brief recess. Merritt spoke. “The verdict of the jury is supported by substantial evidence,” Smith said. Maline reiterates that he believes the judge is biased and brought up the governor’s moratorium on executions. Says death penalty would be contrary to law. Judge rejects those arguments. For Joseph McStay death: life without parole. For Summer McStay and Gianni and Joseph Jr. deaths - death penalty. Smith sentenced Merritt to die in San Quentin State Prison. Judge discussed various fines. $5,000 restitution fine for funerals of McStays.

All three bodies were found beaten with claw hammers. All three had their throats slit, & Richard Smith was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Suspect pleads not guilty for Natchitoches baby death, trial date set

NATCHITOCHES, La. (Natchitoches Parish Journal) - Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith, 27, has pleaded not guilty for the murder of Natchitoches baby Levi Cole Ellerbe.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal has reported that Smith pleaded not guilty on Thursday to the first-degree murder charge of 6-month-old Levi. Her trial date has been set for March 2020 and another judicial procedure is set for April 2019.

In July 2018, Smith allegedly took Levi from his mother’s home in the Mayberry Trailer Park and took him about a mile away to Myrtle Street, where Smith allegedly poured gasoline on the child and set him on fire.

Firefighters who responded to the scene found Levi lying on his stomach in the fire. He was rushed to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center with severe burns to 90 percent of his body. He was later transferred to Louisiana State University Hospital in Shreveport where he passed away.

Levi’s mother, Hannah Barker, 22, was also arrested in the case and charged with being a principal to first-degree murder. She also pleaded not guilty and her court date is set for January 2020.

Trial date set for tragic baby burning case: Smith pleads not guilty

It’s a case that has put Natchitoches in the news from Miami to London, but not in the usual good way the town attracts national or international notice. This much darker news involves the burning murder of an infant on July 17, 2018. On Thursday, January 24, 2019, trial dates were set in an arraignment presided over by Judge Desiree Dyess. The case is State of Louisiana versus Felicia Nicole Smith. Ms Smith, age 26, is fighting a murder charge that alleges she burned to death, a seven-month old baby, Levi Cole Ellerbe. The child’s mother Hannah Nicole Barker,( then age 22) has also been arrested and indicted in connection with the crime. At the arraignment, Ms. Smith pled not guilty. The trial has been set for March, 2020, some fourteen months away. There will be another judicial procedure in April of 2019, but details could not be learned and confirmed by press time and information will be possibly be hard to attain as the court has sealed records relating to this case.

Judge Dyess read the charges which allege that on the night of July 17, 2018, Smith took the baby from Barker’s home in Mayberry Trailer Park. It is also alleged she then took him to Myrtle Street and in an area outside, poured gasoline on him, set him on fire and left him there and went to work. The child was burned on 90% of his body. Despite efforts of emergency personnel and hospital staff and no doubt, prayers of many, the child died the next day, on July 18, 2018. The highly emotional story has attracted wide regional, national and international news media. It was even reported in the Daily Mail, a British Newspaper.

GUILTY - CO - Kelsey Berreth, 29, Woodland Park, Teller County, 22 Nov 2018 - *Arrest* #70

12/2/19 Update: Judge Scott Sells ordered a pre-sentencing investigation (PSI), & Kenney will report to that today. He says it usually takes them about eight weeks to complete their report. Kenney will be sentenced Jan. 28 @ 9am. Prosecutors say she faces up to 3 years for evidence tampering. Defense attorney asked for at least two hours to call witnesses & show a video. Defense attorney Nielsen also says she’ll plan a legal challenge toward the “aggravated” part of the evidence tampering charge, aiming to keep Kenney out of prison for the maximum 3-year sentence. Nielsen has two weeks to file that motion. Prosecutors will have two weeks after that to respond.
1/28/20 Update: Kenney offered a tearful apology in court — one that came nowhere near excusing her action, judge said, noting that she stopped to order fast food after cleaning Kelsey’s blood from walls & floor. Judge Sells has sentenced Kenney to 3 years in prison followed by 1 year mandatory parole - the max allowed due to plea deal with prosecutors.
