Thanks chimpface!
"Details presented during the pretrial motions are covered by a publication ban.

Superior Court Justice Michael Dambrot will preside over the trial, which is expected to last between four and six weeks. Witnesses who showed up in court Monday were asked to return to court at the end of the month.

The Crown is scheduled to begin calling evidence on Jan. 30, after jury selection."

I know it’s been a “normal” amount of time, but it feels like this trial has been such a long time coming. I lived about ten minutes away from where Tess was murdered and this case has haunted me, even though I moved not long after.

Such a beautiful life cut short. Praying for justice for Tess.

Trial expected to begin Thursday for man accused of killing Tess Richey
''The trial of a man accused of killing a young woman in Toronto’s gay village is expected to begin on Thursday.

Kalen Schlatter is charged with first-degree murder in the November 2017 death of Tess Richey, who police have said died of “neck compression.”

The 22-year-old woman was reported missing Nov. 25 after a night out with a friend. She was found dead days later by her mother, who had travelled to Toronto from North Bay, Ont., to help with the search.

Richey’s body was found in a stairwell at the back of an alley, just metres from the address where she had last been seen alive.

Police have said they believe Schlatter and Richey did not know each other before the night of her death, but they have released few details of the investigation.''

We're moving pretty methodically through these photos, showing a plywood sort of gate next to a construction site, near where Richey's body was found.

Court is now seeing photos of the area around where Richey's body was found.

Court is back in session. The Crown's first witness is Det-Const. Scott Grondin of Toronto police, from the forensic identification unit.
The Crown says Schlatter spoke with two undercover officers after he was arrested, and told them girls “beg him to sleep with them because they think he is cute.”

Richards says semen was found on the upper left thigh area of Richey's pants. She says the DNA matched Schlatter.

Sorry for any mangling of the twitter feed.

''Richey, my apologies. The Crown says Schlatter's semen was found on Richey's pant leg, and his saliva was found on her bra. “The man who left Tess’ body in a heap at the bottom of a stairwell, was Kalen Schlatter," Richards says.''

Richards says Schlatter killed Tess Richie. “[This case] is about a young woman who was sexually assaulted, and brutally strangled, by a man she just met," she says.

Dambrot is now going through the presumption of innocence, and how proof beyond a reasonable doubt works when deciding a case. “It is the Crown that must prove the guilt of Mr. Schlatter beyond a reasonable doubt," he says.

"Approach your duties without sympathy, and without prejudice," Dambrot says.

''Dambrot is now going through the role of jurors and the judge in a case like this. He's telling the jurors he is the "judge of the law," while they are the judges of facts

Members of Tess Richey's family are also here, and were just speaking with the Crown, Beverley Richards. The emotion is evident on the family's faces as they lean on each other for support

Schlatter is now being led into the court. He is wearing a blue suit and a white shirt, and is speaking with his lawyers. He is sitting at a table with them, and not in the prisoner's box.''

MANDEL: Crown alleges Kalen Schlatter sexually assaulted, strangled Tess Richey
“At 2:30 a.m. Kalen Schlatter can be seen walking northbound on Church St. following in the path of Tess Richey and Ryley Simard,” the Crown said.

''Video surveillance from 27 Dundonald St. shows Simard walking west and leaving Richey and Schlatter at about 4 a.m.

“Shortly after 4 a.m. Tess Richey can be seen walking alone towards Church St.,” the prosecutor said.

“Kalen Schlatter is trailing well behind her,” she said.

''Video surveillance of the construction site at 582 Church will show a man leading a small woman with dark, curly hair up the gravel driveway toward the exterior stairwell, the Crown said. About 45 minutes later, the male emerges alone.

“Tess Richey is never seen alive again,” Richards told the jury. “Kalen Schlatter is the male seen again on the surveillance footage leaving the crime scene alone.”

''According to the Crown, they will hear that he boasted of having a big penis and of his success with women despite being only 21. He said he loves college girls, especially brunettes, and they all fall for his charm and good looks. He’d pick up girls at gay bars and “he likes a challenge and sometimes you have to push the boundaries with women to see where it goes,” Richards said, quoting the conversation.''

“Kalen Schlatter was upset because Tess Richey told him no,” Richards alleged.''

Michele Mandel is doing a great job of covering the daily trial happenings on the Toronto Sun website.

They don' t have another picture of this guy? like a mugshot. I don't like the whole undercover cop in the jail thing, especially with no recording. I did not even know that was a thing.
