wonder if this is a situation where we need to ask LE if fundraising would help with exhumation/dna extraction + matching. (unless this is a lost grave or remains cremated scenario.)

I found a newspaper article on this case. Apparently, someone had the heart to bound him and make his death impossible to determine. :(

What do you all think of Daniel Shrock:

Daniel Norman Shrock
Missing Person / NamUs #MP2969
Missing Age: 42 Years
Current Age: 84 Years
Nickname/Alias: Dan, Danny
Sex: Male
Height: 5' 3" - 5' 4" (63 - 64 Inches)
Weight: 135 - 150 lbs
Race / Ethnicity: White / Caucasian
Date of Last Contact: January 1, 1979
Location: Bakersfield, California
County: Kern County
Circumstances of Disappearance: Danny went missing in the 1970's while visiting a family in California. He apparently wandered off from that home. Dogs tracked him to the freeway where the scent ended.
Hair Color: Unknown
Head Hair Description: was brown hair in 1972
Left Eye Color: Blue
Right Eye Color: Blue
Scar/mark: scar on back of head in shape of state of Florida
Original

The details are just vague enough to work. It doesn't mention where he was visiting from. In NamUs, it says the photo was taken at Pewee Valley Academy, which is in Kentucky. It doesn't say which man he is in the photo. He went missing visiting friends "in the 70's" and NamUs may have a placeholder date. His hair was brown in 1972 and it says blue eyes, but with everything else being so vague, I'm not confident in that.

Also, I think this Doe could be a little older than the estimated age range. I'd say from the postmortem photo he looks like he could be between 40-55.

And yeah, I thought so too

"Bound body found at compost site By John Koster and Edward J. Flynn Staff Writef An autopsy last night on a man whose body was found yesterday morning at a Teaneck leaf-composting site did not reveal a cause of death. Bergen County Prosecutor Roger W. Breslin Jr. said there would be toxicol-ogical investigation of the body. The dead man is believed to have been between 35 and 45 years old. Authorities have not been able to identify him. Breslin said that the man's hands were tied together behind his back and that his feet were tied with rope. The man was dressed in a white T-shirt, purple shorts, and calf-length socks. Breslin said a preautopsy, examination showed that the man had been dead less than 24 hours when he was found about 8 a.m. Wednesday. Public works employees who found the body said that it was trussed with insulated wire and was in a fetal position under the leaves at the composting site. Police said the victim may have died elsewhere and have been brought to Teaneck. The victim was described as a cleanshaven white male, about 5-foot-2 and 120 pounds, with black hair. A policeman said the man seemed to have been in good health prior to his death. There were no visible wounds on the corpse. Fingerprints have been sent to the State Police laboratory in Trenton and to Rockland County. DPW workers who had been working at the leaf-composting site in Windsor Park along Windsor Road near the Ber-genfield border said the body was not in the park when they left work Tuesday. Equipment operator Pete Jones said that while driving a bulldozer through the windrows of composting leaves, he noticed a blanket. When he walked over to pick it up, he saw a pallid leg sticking out of the mulch and called his supervisor, who called the Teaneck police. Teaneck has been the scene of several unsolved murders in the last few years..."

There is a slight discrepancy with the clothing, specifically purple shorts vs multicolored bikini underwear. I can't imagine someone would be wearing shorts and a t-shirt in November in NJ, so I wonder if he was either wearing pjs/lounge clothes or if he was made to strip into his underclothes. What a weird case. You'd think this man would have to be reported missing somewhere.

He looks so different on his PM. If you subtract the postmortem changes, still there is a difference to the recon. Recon makes him look like a stout middle aged but his PM shows a very gentle, delicate and fragile face. With a perm in small ringlets, not at all like the recon.
