Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #34

Good morning from a beautifully sunny day in London. I was up at 5am - the usual stress-filled and panic-stricken knot in the chest waking me up good and early.
I’ve skimmed the news and it looks as though (per the Sunday Times and Guardian) London may be put on lockdown in the near future and not a moment too soon. Victoria Park in East London reported record numbers of visitors yesterday - I am just amazed at the ongoing stupidity of people who seem to believe they are untouchable.
For myself, I have an hour before I make the long commute from sofa to laptop. I’m using the time to make a list of the things I’d like to achieve during self-isolation.
Wishing everyone a peaceful day and - if you have to head out - stay safe! ❤️

I can understand that everyone wants to go get out for a minute, get some exercise and fresh air and go to the park, and probably no one expects such huge crowds. Was it the mayor of New York City who suggested that they close down some streets to vehicle traffic to create open spaces for walkers and joggers? This may be a way to provide some additional exercise space so people can maintain physical distance. I wonder if that could be done without adding to the risk of people spreading Covid-19.

I have a daughter in mount pleasant who works in a small deli type restaurant and they are staying open and doing orders. I am so worried for her because we know that there is a church right in our neighborhood here that has 2 positive cases, priests, who have come in contact with the parish beginning approx. March 5th. I suspect it is here for us and could be spreading so very quickly. I told my daughter to quit her job! of course she has a car payment and sky high rent- she is too loyal to her boss who I know is a good man, but not when it is on the back of my daughter. I only scare and terrify her with my dire predictions.
I am sheltering in place with my 78 yo mother.
I have another daughter in Las Vegas who I believe has this coronavirus-she was working in the casinos. She became ill last Wednesday and slept through 2 days straight and has had headache, runny nose, and dry cough still. She does not have transportation, and no medical coverage and doesn't want to go out to get tested. She is staying in and I warned her early in February about the covid19 and to prepare for the baby needs. I have a new grandson. He is 5 months old now.
I have seven children and 5 grandchildren. As you can imagine I am doing a lot of worrying and praying!
Have a good day all!

Please ask your daughter in Vegas to contact the health department for help! Especially since she has a tiny one with her! My understanding is the respiratory distress can come on quickly and babies are also getting it!
I hope your daughter still working can convince her boss to switch to take out or just temporarily closes! I told the restaurants where I work that I’m not coming in at this time before they were closed- just seeing and hearing descriptions of what it’s like to be sick with it, especially the respiratory distress, is enough to know I don’t wanna experience that!!! Maybe have her share those things with her boss?
Sending you virtual hugs! So many beautiful people for you to love and worry about! I wish you all well!

Does the daughter in LV have a fever? It is a key symptom.

Tonight on CNN, Anthony Fauci says what I've wanted to shout from the rooftops: “Today there are no known proven effective therapies for the novel coronavirus”. Any of the purported "treatment guidelines" that are floating about should include this sentence on page 1. #COVID19

SPAIN

570 coronavirus patients in Spain were admitted to the intensive care unit over the past 24 hours, raising the total number in ICU to 2,355

This means Spain is now the first European country to have reached 50% level of their intensive care unit capacity.. I think there is much reason to be concerned about this. t.co / TwitteruLSD6MTtHd

“Polis urged Colorado residents to adhere to stricter guidelines as the only practical way to stop the intensifying person-to-person spread of the new coronavirus in a pandemic situation where he said a failed federal public health response has put the burden on states to ensure survival and minimize deaths. Colorado currently lacks sufficient hospital beds and 7,000 ventilators that, based on latest projections for the course of the virus, would be necessary during an anticipated surge at the peak.

“If we do not do more to slow the spread of the virus, our hospital system will be overwhelmed,” he said. “We could be forced into a wartime triage situation.”

For elders and those with chronic health conditions, Polis said: “Don’t leave your home at all unless you need medical attention.”

[...]

State health officials said they expect the virus, now infecting residents in more than 20 counties, likely will spread to all 64 counties. They say they think the number of infections is many times higher than the confirmed cases at present. This highly contagious new coronavirus causes COVID-19, a potentially deadly respiratory disease. Colorado officials indicated they recently discovered five person-to-person outbreaks at residential and non-hospital health care facilities. Details weren’t provided.”

In Germany, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany has risen to 22,672 and 86 people have died from the disease, according to a tally released on Monday by the public health agency, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

That compares with 18,610 cases and 55 deaths on Sunday, when RKI warned that the actual number was likely higher as not all local health authorities had submitted their figures over the weekend.

Question for folks as I haven't been following every post lately. Has anyone come out with a reason that Germany has such a low death rate? @Henry2326 ? Others?

Not sure what you’re implying here. We all need to work together to keep this virus from spreading. If you are an American you are showing your ignorance.
OP can speak for themselves, but if you click on the tiny white arrow at the top of a quote box, you can trace back the conversation and see that, in this case, nothing sinister or ignorant at all. Has saved me from many an unkind assumption.
