According to police, the two went fishing at about 9:50 a.m. in the Huron River between Lake Erie and the I-75 overpass.
The investigation showed that the last communication anyone had with the father was just before noon.

The Michigan State Police and Coast Guard will continue their search this morning. Please do not attempt to search yourself. With the rain we received over the weekend conditions on the river are dangerous! If you see anything suspicious from shore contact the Michigan State Police at 734-242-3500. Do not try and recover anything yourself!

Thank you for all the calls. Please spread the word...this is NOT the boat we are looking for. And PLEASE do not call 911 on search updates. Our 911 lines are getting clogged with non-emergency calls. MSP, US Coast Guard, and dive teams are out searching. Any news we hear, we will share.

Any locals that can speak to the conditions in the area Justin & Jaxon launched their boat? Is the current swift, any particular dangers? They were in a 14 foot boat, how easy would it be to swamp on the Huron River? If they were wearing life vests, it would seem they would be able to get to shore. Hopefully someone chimes in here.

Flat Rock Police Dept also just posted (in comments) that this recovery effort is in the water and Michigan State Police are handling everything. Also stated with a waterway being involved it gets complicated.

My daughter is friends with wife/mom's little sister. They are a really nice, sweet family and they also have a baby at home. It's truly heartbreaking
So sorry! Are you from the same area? What have the weather conditions been like? Just hoping somehow they made it to shore & have made some sort of insulated shelter.

Michigan State Police 1st Lt. Gregory Morenko, commander of the Monroe post, reported two state police boats and a vessel from the Michigan DNR continued search efforts into the early evening Wednesday. Search efforts were expected to resume today.

“They have a couple of spots they were interested in,” Morenko said.

He added that Oaks did not make a distress call and there were no witnesses to verify if the two were in any trouble. Nothing has been presumed, Morenko added. The father, he added, typically fished the river and would not have ventured into the lake, especially with high winds that day.
Search continues for father, son who were boating in Huron River
