United States Tennis Association says people should not be playing tennis right now

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) said it believes that when it comes to playing tennis, "it is in the best interest of society to take a collective pause from playing the sport we love."

"Medical advisors believe there is the possibility that the virus responsible for COVID-19 could be transmitted through common sharing and handling of tennis balls, gate handles, benches, net posts and even court surfaces," the USTA statement said Friday.

Oh no tennis balls - sigh

I mentioned yesterday, most large public restrooms use lidless, self flushers, they sound like a 747 winding up for take off. I’m sure they spray poop all over the room, especially if multiple flushes occur simultaneously. Moo. Thankfully the casinos, malls & other places with 40 stall restrooms are now closed. Moo
And those signs on the restroom doors in grocery stores that say the restrooms are checked every hour. I have always been skeptical of those claims.

We had a short walk today. Everyone respecting distance. When home we grabbed 2 lawn chairs and called MIL that we would be there in 5 min. We met her at the back. She stayed up on her deck and we were in our lawn chairs on the lawn probably 30 ft. away. It was a nice visit. We folded up our chairs and put them in her detached garage for next time. It can be done. Safely.

Sounds great. This weekend a friend who lives nearby and I are planning to meet at a community park between our homes and have an in-person chat. We would like to walk around together but doubt this will work, so we may just stand 6 feet apart for our conversation. But that will be fine!

I think it’s useful to remember Comfort is a battle hospital. It’s used to treating physical injuries and in particular, injuries sustained by soldiers. It’s not set up to treat illness.

It would be easier to use in a terrorist attack or bombing where you have injuries rather than illness. I think everyone just wanted to do something without thinking how ambulances would get to the ship and how patients with communicable illness would be treated (or not). Each patient you move from a hospital to the ship requires another ambulance ride at a time when EMS is already stretched thin.
Exactly. People are saying she is being underused. Just give her time. She will help with the overflow NY needs. Also into question is how to decontaminate the ship the from the virus and I agree that this is a serious issue. Look at what happened on the cruise ships. I also live in Norfolk and I was at a friend's house and looked out on the Chesapeake Bay and said there is the Comfort setting sail for NY. I tried to upload the pic, but the file is too large. She will do her job and she will be a great asset for NY now and to whatever city later.

Its up to the hospital to push put patients with a non Covid19 diagnosis to the Comfort. Wheres the Director of Emergecny Services for NY City or whomever should be heading this up. He should be overseeing the transfers to elevate work load for medical staff.

The Comfort was not designed, and it was made Very clear it would not treat Covid19. We know ships and airborne viruses are a petri dish for death.

This whining and complaining is getting old. They are now throwing a fit about Samantha's Purse. They want a written agreement they will treat LGB the same as others. My goodness, medical personnel treat all, no matter race, religion, sex, etc. I'd pack my crap and go where I'd be appreciated. SP brought in 75 Dr trained in infectious disease and set up a full ground hospital!!! They worked around the world in horrific conditions. I dare they abuse this humanitarian group.

Catholic group slams de Blasio for questioning charity's New York coronavirus field hospital

When [de Blasio] first learned of the relief efforts of Samaritan's Purse, he acted as if New York has been invaded by a hostile force," Donohue told Fox News.

Initially, the mayor said he found it "very troubling" when he learned that Samaritan's Purse wanted to open a pop-up hospital in the park.

Ungrateful.....moo

Samaritan's Purse does great work around the world, and now in New York.

Anyone see Chris Cuomo on AC tonight?
Says he still has a fever and doesn't sleep much. Can't imagine not having a fever. Changes clothes 7 times a day because of being soaked in sweat. He didn't look too bad, I think he's big on projecting optimism. Yesterday IIRC he said he lost 13 pounds in just a day or two.

Still on right now with another patient, a paramedic who is terrified of going back to work with no PPE, and worried about getting it again. Her husband has it too, and they have 2 small kids, one of whom just developed a fever a couple of days ago.

Yes. But 49 excluded conditions makes that hard, depending on what the 49 are. Plus, I'll bet a whole lot of people test positive in NYC these days, symptoms or not. They won't get on the ship unless the president decides otherwise.

According to this article, that list includes obstetric and pediatric care. Would love to see the actual list, though.
A NYC hospital chief has called the U.S.N.S. Comfort's coronavirus relief 'a joke' as hundreds of its beds lay empty amid crisis

The Comfort will not allow asymptomatic virus patients on board. Test results, as we all know, are delayed. It appears the COMFORT will now get the new and improved 5-minute tests:

Hospital ship USNS Comfort changes criteria for accepting NY patients

The U.S. Navy hospital ship brought to New York City is changing its criteria so it can take on non-COVID-19 cases more quickly.

In an effort to keep coronavirus cases off the vessel, screened patients will be isolated and immediately tested for the virus. If a test comes back positive for COVID-19, the patient will be transported to the Javits Center.

FEMA says it has obligated $1.1 billion in federal support to New York

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said in a statement Friday that they have obligated $1.1 billion in federal support to New York state.

I think fear of the unknown prevent states from enforcing church closures. Our governor stresses to us the dangers attending brings, but he does not go any further. Idk if a state can legally close a church, I’ve heard yes, and no.
Leaving them open feels like the perfect platform for a clinical study on the affects of religious beliefs vs. scientific beliefs. Also a recipe for disaster. JMO

My baby sister is a Respiratory Therapist at a hospital outside of Denver,Colo.
I talked with her yesterday. The hospital she works for is beginning to see patients with the virus.
She has had to set up and monitor the ventilators for patients with the virus.
I worry she might become infected with this virus.
But what she is doing is important for everyone.
She is my hero!
As are all the health care workers, firefighters and law enforcement, fighting a enemy that we can't see but we know it's there.

Just want to mention this. Grandson's best friend's mother is a nurse. No one is allowed in her home, and her children are not permitted to play outside the home.

Navy hospital ship will no longer require a negative Covid-19 test for patients who board

[...]

Previously, patients had to have a negative test from their discharging hospital before being admitted on to the ship.

The change in procedure was done in an effort to bring more patients aboard the USNS Comfort.

Patients who are brought aboard the ship without symptoms of Covid-19 will be isolated and tested upon arrival. Any patient that tests positive for coronavirus will be transferred to a hospital that is treating Covid-19 patients, according to the FEMA fact sheet.

[...]

Is that for both coasts? If so, it's quite a notable turn of events. It was supposed to be the case that people without CV who were otherwise in need of acute care...could get it.

Apparently, most of those people are served by their local hospitals and the entire need is for CV patients.

Not surprising, but certainly a new "fact" in this virus business. Because, we handle everything as if it is a business, obviously.

Yes and I truly doubt anyone is really thinking that through. Once CoVid is on board - it's CoVid only for the foreseeable future. Field virologists required plus, perhaps, tech we don't even have yet.

Well, score for Kali & Co. Went to our little town's hardware store to look for veggie plants. Found out they had a delivery this morning. Managed to get 75% of what I wanted plus my soul of preference. Yay for me!
Also, we have a grocery store here called The Grocery Outlet. Great prices. They had a delivery yesterday, and stocked their shelves.
I got a cart full of groceries and produce for $110.
We are now seriously stocked for this pandemic.
I portioned and froze lots.
Could not get near the bank though. The lines were too long.
I did however, fill up my gas tank. I was the only one there at the time.
I wore disposable gloves for each outing. I never got within 6 feet of anyone. Nobody coughed or sneezed near me. Most people were wearing masks of one sort or another.
Haven't seen that before.H
*** At the grocery store parking lot, a man was selling masks out of the boot of his car. Two for $20.00.
Too far away to see what kind.
Crazy. I'm pooped.
We've rehired one of great servers to become a delivery person for our restaurant starting next week. No contact deliveries. We'll supply her with gloves, masks and pepper spray.
I may actually sleep through the night tonight...
