Death of local woman ruled a homicide

ZANESVILLE - The death of a Zanesville woman whose body was discovered last month in Harrison County has been ruled a homicide.

Harrison County Sheriff Ron Myers said 37-year-old Lorie Storie had been brutally beaten before being disposed of at the Tappan Lake Dam near Cadiz.

Her body was discovered face down in the water on Feb. 21, by a couple of fisherman.

"At this point we don't have any solid leads and we are not sure where the crime scene is," Myers said.

Early on, authorities believed that Lorie was murdered some place other than where her body was located. Myers said that remains the consensus.

"We have multiple agencies working on this investigation, including BCI and the Muskingum County Sheriff's office and between us we have spoken to a lot of people about the case," Myers said. "We've interviewed a lot of people who knew her, including her family, and people who she was known to run around with."

Zanesville Pastor Joe Dunlap had known Lorie for about five years. He described her as a great person who was a lot of fun to be around.

"She loved to laugh, she had a funny quirky-type smile," Dunlap said. "She loved life, she loved her family, she loved her mama. I remember her telling stories of going to take her mom to dinner or going to visit. It made her so happy."

Lorie's twin brother, Josh, passed away from a drug overdose March 19, 2018 - two years ago today.

"It was just devastating for the family, they were a very close family," Dunlap said. "Now this. It's just horrible."

Dunlap said he hopes anyone who has information will go to authorities. Sheriff Myers concurs.

"We need to get some closure for the family," Myers said.

Anyone who has information about the death of Lorie Storie is asked to contact local authorities or call the Harrison County Sheriff's office at 740-942-2197.
