Hey Everyone,

If you post in this subforum about people who are scamming or trying to perpetrate hoaxes or anything along these lines please remember you must back up what you are posting with mainstream media links or links from acceptable organizations such as WHO or CDC.
Let's keep politics out of this, please.
Thank you,

Status of COVID-19
As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.
The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

Since January, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has received more than 18,000 reports related to COVID-19 scams coming with a loss of nearly $13.5 million. These numbers do not include fraud that was reported to other federal and state agencies nor does it even estimate the number of cases never reported.

The top complaints include stimulus payment scams, stimulus advance payment scams, fraudulent websites promising scarce supplies, masks and even cures for the coronavirus.

There is also a rise in the number of scams related to refunds for canceled travel plans: "We can expedite your refund. What is the credit card number and expiration used in the purchase?"

The public should be aware of the following potential indicators of fraudulent activity:

  • Advertisements or offers for early access to a vaccine upon payment of a deposit or fee
  • Requests asking you to pay out of pocket to obtain the vaccine or to put your name on a COVID-19 vaccine waiting list
  • Offers to undergo additional medical testing or procedures when obtaining a vaccine
  • Marketers offering to sell and/or ship doses of a vaccine, domestically or internationally, in exchange for payment of a deposit or fee
  • Unsolicited emails, telephone calls, or personal contact from someone claiming to be from a medical office, insurance company, or COVID-19 vaccine center requesting personal and/or medical information to determine recipients’ eligibility to participate in clinical vaccine trials or obtain the vaccine
  • Claims of FDA approval for a vaccine that cannot be verified
  • Advertisements for vaccines through social media platforms, email, telephone calls, online, or from unsolicited/unknown sources
  • Individuals contacting you in person, by phone, or by email to tell you the government or government officials require you to receive a COVID-19 vaccine

Thankfully, some vaccines have been approved for emergency use and have shown to be an excellent preventative and an almost certain prevention of severe illness and death! My daughter worked on one of the most effective vaccines. She insisted on having us all vaccinated when she did back in February and March.
