Search for Sebastian Castro Continues
EAGLE, Colorado --June 6, 2020-- The search continues for Sebastian Castro, the 3-year-old boy that was reported missing from Eagle Villas apartments on June 5 at about 9:20 p.m.
Over 300 civilian volunteers came out today to aid in the search, alongside the Eagle Police Department, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Avon Police Department, Vail Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Vail Mountain Rescue, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle River Fire Protection District, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, FBI, the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the National Institute of Missing and Exploited Children, US Secret Service, HAATS, ECO Transit, Vail Transit, the Northwest Colorado Incident Management Team, and Vail Public Safety Communications Center.
For safety reasons, the search utilizing volunteers will conclude at sunset today, with first responders monitoring the river overnight. We will resume our search for Sebastian tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. We have set up a signup process which will allow volunteers to sign up for search shifts for tomorrow, Sunday, June 7.
There will be two shifts: 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 2:30pm – 9:00 p.m. Please fill out the form at the link below or scan the QR code to enter your information and select your preferred shift. Once the shifts are full, we unfortunately cannot accept any more volunteers, so please do not show up without first signing up:

If you intend to volunteer tomorrow, please remember that we are still in the “Blue Stage” of our COVID-19 recovery. Please bring and wear a face covering whenever you are within 6 feet of others. Please also bring your own hand sanitizer and use it frequently. Please continue to practice social distancing and if you feel ill, please stay home. You must be a minimum of 21 years old to volunteer. We recommend volunteers come prepared with sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, and warm rain gear in order to be prepared for all types of weather. Volunteers should expect to be hiking over rough terrain for the duration of their shift.
Search and rescue crews today noticed a number of families joining in search efforts along the river. With our current high water levels, it is extremely dangerous along the river banks, and we would prefer that you leave these search areas to Vail Mountain Rescue and other professionals.
We appreciate the continued overwhelming support in response to the ongoing search for Sebastian Castro. We are immensely grateful for the outpouring of support we have seen both from the community and from our assisting agencies during this difficult time.
On behalf of the Town of Eagle and the Eagle Police Department, thank you. We are so proud of our community and the way we have come together to support each other during this difficult time.
