'It's finished': State Attorney Bill Eddins no longer making concessions due to COVID-19

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — The COVID-19 pandemic is causing more changes to the courts with further suspension of jury trials.

State Attorney Bill Eddins says the decision has been made to cancel all jury trials across Escambia County through at least July. This is partially due to concerns of transporting inmates to the courthouse after 41 inmates tested positive for COVID-19.

ddins says among the trials delayed is the Robert Howard murder trial.

Howard is accused of kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Naomi Jones. The trial has faced several delays already but Eddins says being such a high-profile case, they need to wait until the pandemic cools down.

He doesn’t believe time will hurt any of the prosecutions’ evidence.

Santa Rosa County is still keeping trials scheduled beyond July 27 but Eddins expects that to change.

Okaloosa County is cancelling all trials indefinitely.


So scratch the jury selection to begin on 7/20.
