NY - Fahim Saleh, 33, millionaire tech entrepreneur, dismembered, Manhattan, 15 July 2020 *Arrest*

To me it's easy to understand if you forget about the business embezzling. It seems quite in line for how serial killers are. I think he enjoyed the killing and may have even done the dismemberment to increase his thrill. He didn't buy the saw until the next day so that's why I'm thinking the dismemberment idea only came about after the murder...he killed FS but he still wanted to come back for more. Also even if he did pre-plan the dismemberment, I still think he enjoyed it and the whole ordeal was happy for him rather than somber.
Yes kind of " if I can't enjoy your lifestyle and millions as I'm entitled to, then you can't either"
Rage and revenge

That was a great quote. It make me wonder how a bright guy like FS ever hired this guy. Probably because FS had a really great heart and wanted to help TH prosper. TH's main skill besides web design was probably being a skilled salesman of himself. Very sad.
Well he hired him as a teen. Apparently, TH was in foster care at some point. Saleh probably mentored him and gave him opportunities. The video of TH dancing with the dog showed that TH seemed part of the family.
TH seemed like a great kid too. He messed up big time.

This explains FS more:

https://news.google.com/articles/CA...ocv1CjCSptoCMIrUpgU?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en

Since he found success while as a minor he appears to have been someone who would give a minor a job and then promote them if they did well. One of the people who worked for him as a VP recounted how as a 17 year old FS hired him on spec to code and then he rose through the ranks, so FS hiring a 16 year old TH wasn't something unusual.

I’ll be curious if/when it’s released what Haspil’s salary was working for Saleh. Since he’d been working with Saleh while in high school (presumably, because I read he was 16), One would think it may have started as a mentor/big brother type of thing and as he matured, Saleh gave him increased responsibilities.

Hasil was smart.
Why did he continue using Saleh's credit card????
Perhaps, he figured, after he cleans up the murder site, perhaps leaving evidence at another site for Saleh being missing, LE may not suspect Saleh being missing occurred from Saleh's residence.

As both agreed, to a repayment plan, it may indicate they were still in contact, and Hasil continued as if no murder had happened.
But his clean up was interrupted, and his genius plan fell apart.

Also using the Credit Card for tools, could be explained as Hasil was to use them for other purposes, having pre planned that the dismembered body was not going to be found, their evil use not incriminated.
Guess Hasil would soak them in 'whatever' to hide blood.
I wonder, if he had an evil, long range plan, that was interrupted OR is Hasil just simple.
This could be a reason for Saleh helping Hasil.o_O
MOO.

Any activity on family of TH? Not to sleuth just curious if they have spoken out.

More:

(The suspect’s aunt Marjorie) Sine, who lives in Valley Stream, recounted Haspil’s difficult childhood, bouncing from one relative’s home to another before landing in a foster home. He was just a child when his mother was sent to a mental institution, and Haspil’s maternal grandmother was left to raise the boy until her death when he was just 12, Sine said.

Sine took the young boy in after his grandma’s death, but turned him over to a foster family at 17, as he became increasingly insolent. Haspil’s father died a year later.

“He wasn’t listening to me so he left,” said Sine, explaining that her nephew often stayed out late and disrespected her. “That’s what happened, we went to court. I couldn’t deal with it anymore.”

I think it would depend on how long ago he was fired. If he was fired months ago it would look very suspect that he's spending his ex-boss's money. However what I could see as a plan was if he was fired on Friday and he did the murder the following Monday. If no one knew of the embezzlement nor the firing, he could have attempted to take over as 'Acting CEO' during FS's disappearance knowing he'd eventually be perm CEO or at least been assured of keeping his existing psycheck by pretending he was never fired.

So mental illness runs in the family...

The fact that he planned this murder but was so thoughtless about covering his tracks suggests to me a recklessness that might be explained by mental illness. Either that or he actually wanted to get caught because he was proud of his "accomplishment." Or maybe both.

It's hard to imagine people in the world who are both sane and evil, but they do exist.

I have found this case very upsetting. Fahim appears to have been a really kind and open-minded person -- someone who recognized raw talent and offered opportunities to those who may have been otherwise overlooked or ignored. Every day since reading about his murder, I convince myself for a split second that he's somehow no longer dead. In his pictures he is just full of life and brightness and it's so dispiriting to accept that someone like him really was brutally murdered.

I really wish the neighbors who heard the screaming had called the police instead of Fahim's relative! It reminds me of the Carolyn Byington case, who was stabbed to death in her home after coming home during her lunch break, and whose neighbors heard screams but also did not contact LE. I wonder if either of those lives could have been saved...

The assumptions on this thread are incredible. It is really fascinating how a murder like this can happen, and then how the legacy of those involved is essentially a story told by the media.

We know very little about Tyrese. We don't really know exactly why he did this, how he felt, what Fahim said to him, etc. I'm not defending him or saying Fahim got what was coming to him - far from it, but IMO Tyrese is not a diabolical serial killer. He was incredibly disorganised and delusional and I think a mental health defense is appropriate. I'd rather he be locked away in treatment for 30 years than in prison for 10 and then released because by then he will be in a gang and have that Rikers education to go on.

This looks like it might have been TH's personal brand website? Not sure I really understand the content -- maybe it's meant to just show off his web design skills in a random way?

This is a fluff portfolio for his promotional work - "personal assistants" are essentially brand managers for people.

Yeah. Imagine being the girl with him that day...

I think she may have been the motivator, unknowingly or not. Consider this - Tyrese has built up this persona of being a successful upscale tech ceo PA, he has made high profile friends and now he has a girlfriend. Fahim cut him off, forces him to repay the money, and now Tyrese's reputation and relationships are compromised. He has to continue keeping up appearances for this girl of being rich and successful. He rents the loft, he buys stuff for her - he couldn't keep doing that without access to the credit card.

Meanwhile, Tyrese has virtually no public social media presence, which is bizarre for someone in his position (I'd expect 5000 friends, more or the same instagram connections than Fahim, etc if he was really hustling) - that sounds like someone with bipolar, antisocial or schizophrenia to me - the American Psycho comparison doesn't work because Tyrese has no outward or reported behaviors of a charming sociopath.

Anyway the original point of my post is to watch how much you project onto victims and perps. Research the facts to help form your profile, don't play a movie in your mind.

So, we know more.

1)
Surely someone had a soft spot for the dog and kept it alive over 24hours while the events unfolded.
The dog also knew the killer.

2)
Non-professional, poorly planned.

Like we said, he missed out everything that would have made disappearing a dismembered body in the middle of NYC simpler. He could have placed plastic sheets underneath, had specialised cleaning materials etc in his suitcase.

3)
Emotional roller coaster? Unstable? Fantasy driven? Remorse'less'?
- We wonder what the defence may say.

4)
Already sorry for the family..again. The defence may get dirty!

YES,.. we do not know the heart of mind of the suspect.
Revelations may run deeper than we are prepared to be readied for.
We wait.

5)
This is a senseless loss!

This is amateur, speculative and non-professional/therapeutic Talk by we!

Exactly. ... But hey, let's stop the certainty that it was a 'he'... it could also have been a 'she' perpetrator, crimes fail to et solved by narrowing the focus too early.

I often consider the process of elimination.

1)
A Nigerian revenge in NYC, at what expense and for what reason? He was already banned from the sector in question and he wasn't going to win a fight.. he had already moved on.

2)
Let's consider eliminating a plan to "disappear him for a basic reason- too many CCTV shots would tell the story of Fahim returning home and the killer wasn't "that" prepared for an evacuation otherwise he/she wouldn't have jumped out at the first sign of a visitor.

3)
Now, a professional butcher carries along an expensive saw. Would he/she not also lay out cheap plastic or something to control any potential mess? Why wait, be sloppy and have to clean and bleach?

4)
So, the sister rings a bell or so? Does she blindly proceed up the lift with out without a 'key'? She has access or how does that work? Of course you still want to buzz even if you have access as you hope to give some notice before your entrance!

5)
This guy is a techy. He may have more ways of tracking his life, time nd security than the average joe. Lets wait for further revelations.

Did he have a phone. Were there numerous missed calls. What was his internet and telephone traffic like over the last 24hours and even after the assault began?

Did he access information, send a distress signal?

6)
Lets tinker with motive?
We've talked about PrankCall, Nigeria etc but what i see silent is that he had recently invested in Columbia.

7)
A bit of icing?
A Bike hire, hailing service is really deeper than regular people think. I will chat about this in a few minutes

Okay - here's what I have - and I'll shorten this up a bit too. Update in red.

Update!

Saturday, July 18th:
*Arraignment Hearing (@ am ET) - NY – Fahim Saleh (33) (July 15, 2020, Manhattan) – *Tyrese Devon Haspil (21) taken into custody (7/17/20), charged & arraigned (7/18/20) with 2nd degree intentional murder. Plead not guilty. Held without bond.
The decapitated & dismembered body of a self-made millionaire has been found in his luxury Manhattan apartment by his heartbroken sister, and cops are now hunting for a professional killer who cut up the 33-year-old's corpse with an electric saw. A millionaire tech entrepreneur who moved into his $2 million Lower East Side apartment late last year. Police believe they have surveillance footage of the suspect entering the building on Monday and then using the elevator. Fahim was incapacitated about 1:40pm Monday, 7/13 & sister arrived on Tuesday, 7/14 about 3:30pm. Fahim was tased after getting off the elevator with the killer. Was stabbed repeatedly in the chest (torso) & neck area.
7/15/20 Update: A cold-blooded killer, clad in a ninja outfit, left his victim’s dismembered corpse inside a $2 million Lower East Side condo just moments before the victim’s cousin arrived at the crime scene, a police source indicated Wednesday. The suspect bolted via a staircase as the sister rode the elevator upstairs to visit victim Fahim Saleh, with her impending arrival interrupting the killer’s efforts to scrub the bloody condo clean & dispose of the body. The killer left behind the electric saw used to decapitate the 33-year-old victim and lop off Saleh’s arms and legs, and the source said cleaning materials were also found inside the seventh-floor residence. He was dressed like a ninja, full out, so you can’t even see his face,” the source said. “He clearly knew what he was doing. We think his intent was to get rid of the body parts and go back and clean it up and make it look like nothing happened. He left before he finished.
7/16/20: Police on Thursday identified a person of interest in the death of a tech entrepreneur. They have not publicly named the person of interest.
7/17/20 Update: The NYPD have identified a person of interest described as an ex-worker, a personal assistant of Fahim's. The 21-year-old suspect Tyrese Devon Haspil has not yet been formally charged but is expected to face second degree murder & other offenses. The motive appeared to be a business dispute & the theft of tens of thousands of dollars ($90K). So far, no one is in custody in connection to the crime. Detectives believe that the motive for the killing stemmed from Mr. Saleh having discovered that the assistant had stolen tens of thousands of dollars from him, despite the fact that Mr. Saleh had not reported the man and had set up what amounted to a repayment plan for him to return the money, one of the officials said. Investigators ran a credit-card check and determined that Haspil’s was used to buy the saw and cleaning supplies used after the murder, and that his card was even used to pay for rides to and from the crime scene. Police were able to identify Haspil by anti-felon identification (AFID) cards that were spewed like confetti in Saleh's apartment after Saleh was stunned with a Taser.
7/18/20: Haspil was arrested on Friday, 7/17/20 & was arraigned on Saturday morning in criminal court in Manhattan & charged with 2nd degree murder. Mr. Haspil’s lawyers, Sam Roberts and Neville Mitchell, said their client had pleaded not guilty. Judge Jonathan Svetkey ordered him held without bail. Next hearing date 8/17/20.

IMO, the scenario was probably that FS befriended this young man and felt he was doing him a favour giving him work and encouragement, that he was being generous. And when Haspil stole from him, FS continued to want to be his benefactor, rather than destroy his life by reporting him to police.

Probably because FS had a really great heart and wanted to help TH prosper.

I agree with both the above. Fahim's family said, "Fahim is more than what you are reading. He is so much more. His brilliant and innovative mind took everyone who was a part of his world on a journey and he made sure never to leave anyone behind.

FS posted "... But sometimes, passion plus hard work creates something truly exceptional — and financial gain inadvertently follows.

I know from experience that there’s no better motivator. I figured I’d try developing a new website as a side project, just something that might generate enough income to keep me afloat while I waded through shallow employment opportunities.

That’s created the opportunity for me to pursue other ventures, like founding the venture firm Adventure Capital which invests in startups in the developing world."

Over the years, Saleh sought to propel the careers of other young people in the tech industry.

Yes, he had a big heart and wanted to create opportunities for those unable to help themselves and that included TH.

TH allegedly owed Saleh tens of thousands of dollars, and was on a repayment plan. FS could just as easily have reported him to LE but instead gave him a golden opportunity to repay the debt.

My heart goes out to his family.

Rage and revenge

I think it's more a case of being unable or unwilling to repay all the money he owed Saleh. Now he'll have to face the consequences of his heinous act, and hopefully he'll have many years behind bars to reflect on his depravity.

He’s pleading not guilty?? the evidence is overwhelming according to prosecutors. They claim he left a digital breadcrumb trail that lead directly back to him, and by the sounds of it he may aswell left his business card at the scene.

Pleading not guilty means fahims family will be put through a trial too, I wonder what his defense will be? Of course I’ll keep an open mind but there is nothing I can think of that warrants a person tasering, stabbing, decapitating and dismembering another person then subsequently disposing of his butchered remains in trash bags, not to mention the further remorseless actions of buying your mrs birthday balloons/gifts on your the victims credit card the following day. But I’ll keep an open mind nonetheless...

RSBM. <modsnip> Also, the number of friends that he has on social media in relation to the victim is irrelevant, IMHO, as everyone manages their social media differently. Some people add as many people as possible in order to become influencers, while some people only add people that they truly know. To translate the suspect’s social media friend count as direct evidence of a mental disorder is a huge leap.

Regardless, being diagnosed with a mental disorder does not equate to pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.

If one takes precautionary measures of any sort (in this case, disguising his identity when waiting for and accessing the elevator), they are recognizing that the act is a deviation from socially acceptable behavior; therefore, the likelihood of getting away with the crime due to mental disorder is not likely.

All MOO.

Not surprised re not-guilty plea - his lawyers are just trying to preserve options for plea bargaining, objections to arrest etc. Those lawyers were scrambled into place at the last moment, probably without even meeting with him before the court appearance. their only possible approach at that situation is respond to the immediate need by preserving his rights / options, then move on to actually putting together a case. Cannot imagine they’d actually intend to take this mess to court.

LE say Saleh appeared suspicious when the masked-man fumbled with the elevator, which requires the use of a key fob to operate.

As the doors opened to the seventh-floor, words were said to be exchanged between the pair before Saleh reportedly collapsed to the ground as he stepped into his apartment. A struggle then ensured between Saleh and the assailant but the elevator doors closed, obscuring the camera's view of what happened next.

His torso was found in the corner of his living room, with his head, arms, and legs separated into plastic bags.

A law enforcement source told the New York Post that his limbs had been 'severed with surgical precision', with his arms cut off at his shoulders, and his legs just below the knees.

Describing the murder as 'professional', the killer had reportedly kept his blood confined to one corner of the room, tracing a near 'perfect outline' around his body.

In addition to the saw still being plugged in, investigators noted that the blood around his torso had not yet blackened. The discovery suggests that he had only recently been dismembered - likely in the last hour of the 25 hours the killer appears to have spent inside the apartment.

Scroll down, down, down and you’ll see a lovely 5 min video where Fahim pleads with the Nigerian government to reverse their decision to ban motorbike taxis. It’s so sad hearing him talk now.
