"Two days after Garcia went missing, her silver Nissan Altima was discovered stuck on a rock along the Sawmill trailhead near Idyllwild."

"Zavala said her mother suffers from dementia and doesn't believe her mother drove her car to that location. She added that her mother was on her way to visit a relative on the day she went missing."

BBM. Seems something someone with dementia would exactly do.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) confirmed Monday that skeletal remains were located in the Pinyon Pines area.

“Skeletal remains were located on Feb. 5, but at this time we have not had a positive identification on those remains,” wrote RCSD Correctional Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro of the department’s media information bureau. “The remains were located near the 70100 block of Highway 74 in Mountain Center [Pinyon Pines]. No further information is available at this time.

Five people remain missing
Eight people have gone missing in the area since March of last year and five remain missing.

Rosario Garcia was last seen at her home July 7, 2020 in Hemet by her family. According to Garcia’s family, her car was found on Sawmill Trail 5E02 in Pinyon Pines two days after she was last seen, but there was no sign of Garcia.

Garcia, who was 73 years old at the time she disappeared, was suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease, which the family thinks she had for about two years.

While she didn’t travel far from home, she did still enjoy trips to the casinos and would run errands near her home in Hemet.

Ty for the update, @imstilla.grandma. The remains were located in the same area as where Ms. Garcia's car was found abandoned. :( My thoughts and prayers are with all who are waiting for answers.

From OP: car was found Thursday in Mountain Center (near the 70100 block of state Route 74)

Such a sad update. Rest in peace, Ms. Garcia.

  • There is no evidence of foul play.”
  • Tarr said, “By the evening of Jan. 24 we had images, and on a couple of images, with no doubt we could see it was Ms. Garcia. She was about 500 feet from her car down a steep embankment with her purse and identification inside of it.”
How'd they miss her 500 feet from her car?

“Down a steep embankment.” My guess is that she wasn’t visible from the road—brush blocking the view—climbing down the embankment would have been difficult if not downright dangerous—and drones got pictures from an angle where she was visible.
