May, 2016 was convicted of 2 counts of mishandling classified materials & 2 count of assault on a child; sentenced to 6 months in jail & discharged from the military.

6/11/20 Update: Martin’s defense attorney, Tom Griffiths said they are still awaiting surveillance video from their client’s camera to be downloaded to an external drive for their review, as well as the completion of the DNA tests. Assistant Attorney General Barbara Whaley said they are in the process of getting the video downloaded & she received word that the DNA report should be completed at the end of this month. During the discussion of setting a trial date, Griffiths said the real big hurdle in setting a trial date is completing the investigation on both sides and he doesn’t believe the defense will be ready until next summer. Judge Atkins said he was going to defer setting a trial date until another pretrial conference is held, which he scheduled for Thursday morning, August 6, at 10:00.

Attorney: Evidence “destroyed” in high profile murder case

The attorney defending the former American Airlines pilot charged with triple homicide said the Kentucky State Police destroyed and mishandled key evidence.
The claim was made in a preliminary hearing Thursday for Kit Martin, who is charged with several crimes, including murder and arson, in the deaths of his three former neighbors, Cal and Pam Phillips and Ed Dansereau.

At the preliminary hearing, Tom Griffiths, Martin’s attorney, said that in his opinion, evidence from Pam Phillips’ burned car, in which she and Dansereau’s bodies were found inside, were ultimately not preserved correctly by the Kentucky State Police.

He went on to say that he believes the KSP didn’t have an actual arson expert investigate the materials, and is no longer seeking an expert to testify about it.

Griffiths told News4 Investigates after the hearing that he’s filed court documents in which his expert casts doubt on whether or not Martin’s gun was used in the crime.
The judge in the case did agree, because of pretrial publicity, that the trial should be moved to Hardin County, Kentucky, and scheduled it to begin on May 31, 2021.

The arrested suspect's wife was attempting to leave him/get divorced and she was bringing these neighbors into court to support her cause. He was infuriated.

A Christian County Circuit Court judge heard arguments Wednesday morning regarding a motion requesting a medical furlough for the former Fort Campbell Army major accused of killing a Pembroke couple and their neighbor in 2015.
Christian Martin, his defense attorney Douglas Moore, and Assistant Attorney General Barbara Whaley appeared before Chief Circuit Judge John Atkins. Moore said he filed the motion asking for a medical furlough because Martin started experiencing what he considers kidney stones last month and needs further treatment than what the jail can provide.
Whaley said they filed a response asking the judge to deny the motion.
Judge Atkins proposed that both attorneys discuss with the jailer what arrangements can be made for Martin to safely be taken to the Veteran’s Center in Hopkinsville.

The Supreme Court of Kentucky has declined to review an appeal of an order denying a motion for bond reduction for the former Fort Campbell Army major charged in connection to the murders of a Pembroke couple and their neighbor.
The appeal was filed by defense attorneys representing Christian Martin, who is being held in the Christian County Jail on a $3 million bond in connection to the fatal shooting of Calvin and Pam Phillips and Ed Dansereau in Pembroke in November 2015. The appeal came after Judge Atkins ruled in May a motion for bond reduction filed by Martin’s attorneys was denied.
The Order Denying Discretionary Review from the Supreme Court of Kentucky states the motion for review of the decision of the Court of Appeals is denied, which was signed on December 9 by Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr.

The case of Pembroke triple murder suspect Christian Martin will continue in Christian Circuit Court after a motion to dismiss the case was denied.
In a brief midday hearing in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday, Judge John Atkins denied Martin’s motion to dismiss charges for three counts of murder, arson, attempted arson, burglary first degree, and three counts of tampering with physical evidence. Judge Atkins denied Martin’s motion to dismiss for a due process violation. The judge did allow renewal of the motion at a later time if the defense wants to supplement the written motion with witness testimony.
Judge Atkins set the next pretrial hearing for January 21 at 1:00 to hear evidence concerning Martin’s medical condition. Martin is currently suffering from kidney stones. The defense is still working with the Christian County Jail concerning Martin’s health and best way to take care of him.

The Order Denying Discretionary Review from the Supreme Court states the motion for review of the decision of the Court of Appeals is denied, which was signed on 12/9/20 by Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr. Judge Atkins vacated the hearing scheduled on 12/14/20 & set another pretrial conference hearing on 12/30/20.
12/30/20 Update: Judge John Atkins denied Martin’s motion to dismiss charges. Judge Atkins denied Martin’s motion to dismiss for a due process violation. The judge did allow renewal of the motion at a later time if the defense wants to supplement the written motion with witness testimony. Judge Atkins set the next pretrial hearing for 1/21/21 at 1pm to hear evidence concerning Martin’s medical condition. Martin is currently suffering from kidney stones. The defense is still working with the Christian County Jail concerning Martin’s health & best way to take care of him.

*Pretrial Conference Hearing (@ 1pm ET) – KY – Edward Dansereau (63), Pamela J. Phillips (58) & Calvin Lee Phillips (53) (Nov. 19, 2015, Pembroke) - *Christian “Kit” Richard Martin (51/now 52) arrested & charged (5/11/19), indicted (5/10/19) & arraigned (5/22/19) with 3 counts of 1st degree murder, 1 count of arson, 1 count of attempted arson, 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary & 3 counts of tampering with evidence. Plead not guilty. Held without bond, changed (10/16/19) to $3M bond.
May, 2016 was convicted of 2 counts of mishandling classified materials & 2 count of assault on a child; sentenced to 6 months in jail & discharged from the military.
Trial set to begin on 5/31/21

12/17/20: The Supreme Court of Kentucky has declined to review an appeal of an order denying a motion for bond reduction for Martin. The appeal was filed by defense attorneys. The appeal came after Judge Atkins ruled in May, 2020 a motion for bond reduction was denied.
