Chris Watts, the Colorado man who murdered his pregnant wife and two young daughters, claims in a chilling jailhouse letter to his mother that he’s a changed man who has a newfound relationship with God.

His mother, Cindy Watts, is interviewed in a new HLN special: Killer Dad: Chris Watts Speaks. During the show, she reads the letter she received from her son.

“I’m still a Dad! I’m still a son! No matter what,” Watts wrote. “Now, I can add servant of God to that mix! He has shown me peace, peace, love and forgiveness, and that’s how I live every day.”

[...]

The HLN special details how Watts and Kessinger traded photos, which Watts hid from his family using an app on his phone that looks like a calculator until a secret passcode is entered. Those photos included ones from a secret trip the pair took to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Family of Shanann Watts addresses cyberbullying after murders
[...]

Frank Rzucek’s plea was directed to those hiding behind the anonymity of a Facebook page, a Twitter handle or a YouTube account, whom Rzucek said have been spreading false rumors and lies against their family ever since the case garnered international attention 11 months ago.

[...]

Rzucek not only pleaded for those hiding behind social media accounts to stop the continuous harassment, but also called on Congress to pass laws that would protect “victims of unspeakable crimes from this kind of abuse.”

[...]

Lastly, he addressed those who feel compelled to comment or discuss the case.

“Please stick to the truth. It is painful enough for us just dealing with the reality,” Rzucek said. “Reading the insane conspiracy theories, ugly false rumors and lies only make it more painful.”

When asked how we would like Shanann to be remembered, Rzucek said he would like for her daughter to be remembered as a beautiful person.

“She would have defended herself and now I’m here defending her,” Rzucek said. “It doesn’t need to be like this, I shouldn’t have to be out here doing this. … Making money off of my daughter’s death is ridiculous.”

Family of Colorado woman, children killed by husband begs for online abuse to stop
[...]

"This is wrong. It is cruel, it is heartless and it is flat wrong," he said in the statement.

[...]

"It is pretty much literally every day that somebody’s messaging them, they’re finding a new YouTube person has posted a podcast," he said.

Lambert said that they’ve tried to reach Facebook and YouTube about the abuse, but it’s been difficult to find a real person to file their complaints to. They also are appealing to lawmakers and policymakers to explore if there are ways to legislatively combat cyber-bullying and harassment.

[...]

"To online social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter — we have contacted you many times reporting this abuse, but to no avail. We are calling on you again to do the right thing, to take some responsibility for your platforms and to stop this despicable conduct," Rzucek said in the statement.

"To the people who feel they are entitled to profit off of our loss, we urge you, please stop," he said. "And to the people who are interested in this case, who feel compelled to comment and discuss, please, stick to the truth. It is painful enough for us just dealing with reality — reading the insane conspiracy theories, the ugly false rumors, the lies, only makes it more painful."

Shanann Watts: father of slain Colorado pregnant mom says his family has been harassed 'nonstop' - CNN
The father of Shanann Watts, who was killed along with her two daughters by her husband is pleading with online bullies to stop the harassment his family has endured in the past year.

"Our family, including Shanann and her children and our grandchildren, have been ridiculed, demeaned, slandered, mocked in the most vicious ways you can imagine," Frank Rzucek said Monday outside the home in the Colorado suburb where his daughter lived. "We have been subject to false accusations, fake Facebook accounts, hate speeches and a constant stream of ugly, evil insults and attacks."

[...]

"There's no regulatory arm of YouTube, there's no customer service line for YouTube, no customer service line for Facebook to contact," Lambert said. "And we have really tried and racked our brain over a year to get something done."
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube did not immediately respond to CNN's requests for comment overnight Tuesday.

Rzucek also pleaded for lawmakers and local leaders to help protect victims' families.

"It is painful enough for just dealing with the reality. Reading the insane conspiracy theories, ugly false rumors and lies only make it more painful," Rzucek said.

The harassment is nonstop, he said, adding "we can't grieve."

Family of mother, children murdered by Chris Watts say they're being threatened, bullied online
[...]

"For the past 11 months, piled on top of pain and the grieving of this devastating loss, our family has been subject to horrible, cruel abuse, outright bullying, on a daily basis," Rzucek told reporters outside Watts' former Colorado home.

Rzucek said the attacks on his family include threats, fake Facebook accounts and a constant stream of insults.

"It is cruel, it is heartless," Rzucek said.

He pointed out that re-victimization of families who have lived through tragedies is nothing new. He said families of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012 have for years been targeted by harassers and conspiracy theorists.

"Families like ours should have the right to be safe...the right to mourn in peace," Rzucek said. "To Congress, or to any person in position of power, we are calling on you to do something to pass laws that will protect victims of unspeakable crimes from this kind of abuse."

"In August 2018, Chris Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant wife and their two daughters. Three months later, he was sentenced to five life sentences, three of which would be served consecutively, without parole.

Today, he is serving time at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, according to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. KKTV reports that he was moved out of his Colorado institution in December for “safety reasons.” After his transfer, Mark Fairbairn, a Colorado Department of Corrections spokesperson, told A&E, “He has been moved out of Colorado for security concerns due to him being a high-profile offender.” They add that this likely meant he was receiving threats in prison.

Larry Levine, director of Wall Street Prison Consultants, tells the outlet, “Colorado is a big state, but Watts’ crime touched the community on a lot of levels… People who [commit crimes against] children … are the most hated people on the inside. He couldn’t just blend in. Everybody knows who he is. He was probably getting death threats.”"

Chris Watts' chilling letter confessing how he killed his family | Daily Mail Online

Chris Watts confessed he 'murdered' daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, TWICE, in a letter to author Cheryln Cadle, DailyMailTV can exclusively reveal

The letters and Cadle's one-on-one conversations with Watts in prison form the basis of her upcoming book, Letters From Christopher

Watts, 34, described smothering the little girls in their beds with a pillow on August 13, 2018, before going back to bed with his pregnant wife Shanann Watts

But shockingly his daughters 'woke back up' bruised and traumatized after he had strangled Shanann to death in their bed in Frederick, Colorado

He then describes driving to the oil field where he methodically killed both of his daughters for the second and final time

The father admitted in his letter that he had been plotting the murders for some time so he could be with his mistress Nichol Kessinger

He also confessed that he had slipped the potent painkiller Oxycodone to his wife in the hope of inducing a miscarriage and making it easier to leave her

Watts will spend life in prison after taking a plea deal and is currently being housed at Dodge Correctional Institution, Wisconsin

Christopher Watts agrees to pay $6 million to parents of Shanann Watts in wrongful death lawsuit

Nov 25, 2019

Christopher Watts agreed to pay $6 million to the parents of Shanann Watts, his pregnant wife whom he murdered in their Frederick home last year, though the family likely will never see any of the money.

A judge ordered last week that Watts pay the $6 million to Frank and Sandy Rzucek, marking the end of the civil case. The couple filed the lawsuit last year on the same day that Watts pleaded guilty to killing his family, including two daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste, and dumping the three bodies on a Weld County oil site.

The figure includes $1 million for each of the deaths and $3 million for emotional pain. The amount owed will grow at an 8 percent annual interest rate.

[...]

The Rzuceks declined to comment on the finding through their Greeley attorney, Steven Lambert. The attorney previously said the family filed the lawsuit to collect any money Watts might have and to keep him from profiting from the murders should he ever decide to write a book or sell the rights to his story. Watts is serving a life sentence in the Dodge Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.

Watts never fought the civil lawsuit and on Nov. 5 agreed to the $6 million finding.

‘I’ve Cried More For Them Than He Has’ Investigator Opens Up About Chris Watts Case
Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent Tammy Lee grew attached to the victims of the Chris Watts case, so much so that she feels she cried more for the slain children than their own father.

[…]

Early on in the investigation, while Shanann and the girls were still considered missing, Lee took a deep dive into Shanann’s very public Facebook page. Lee felt emotionally connected to the case’s victims, Shanann specifically, almost immediately.

[…]

Lee noted “it was obvious that she [Shanann] loved being a mom, that she loved being a wife and she loved what she did for work.”

[…]

“I just couldn’t believe a father could do something so horrible to his children and his wife,” she admitted. “I was completely disgusted. I felt sick.”

While Lee was affected by the initial grim findings, it was when she conducted the final interview with him in February, along with FBI Special Agent Grahm Coder and lead detective for Frederick Police Dave Baumhover, that she really felt the gravity of how the case affected her.

[…]

Lee was particularly disturbed by details of the murders and Watts’ revelation that his daughters were still alive as he drove them out to the oil site.

“At no point did he decide to spare their lives, and it made no sense to us,” Lee said. She choked up as she explained that Bella had to watch her father drop her sister in an oil tank from the truck.

[…]

Lee said when she got home after participating in that interview, she kissed her kids before she “collapsed on the floor” and began crying.

She said Watts’ final version of what happened was “more horrible than I had even let my mind go to. We had not even fathomed how horrible he could have been, what a monster he was.”
