Looks like Delta is coming in fast & furiously. Never a good sign. Prep now, make a plan. It’s the water that kills.

Tropical Tidbits

TD26 has become Tropical Storm #Delta, and continues to display a compact structure this morning, with thunderstorms now curling around the north side. This is a concerning sign that increases odds of rapid intensification occurring today and Tuesday. The good news is that Delta has tracked a little farther south overnight, which means it may now miss Grand Cayman to the south early Tuesday. This can't be guaranteed, however. After passing the Cayman Islands, Delta will pass close to western Cuba and northeastern Mexico late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Any of these locations could get hit directly if the storm wobbles a little bit in the wrong direction. Be prepared and stay safe!

Based on the number of weather related posts and their frequency, I’m guessing Delta is going to be bad.

Flhurricane.com

Tropical Storm Delta has formed southwest of Jamaica, and is forecast to move toward the Cayman islands. Those in the cone should keep close watch over the future of Delta. Gamma is expected to weaken over the Yucatan and be a heavy rain event for Southeast Mexico.

Delta is likely to be a cat 2 or 3 in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday, and may be stronger than Sally was when it arrived. The current forecast takes it toward Southeast Louisiana.

1. Tropical storm conditions are expected in the Cayman Islands beginning late today, and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect.

2. Dangerous storm surge and hurricane conditions are possible in portions of western Cuba and the Isle of Youth by Tuesday afternoon, and a Hurricane Watch is in effect.

3. Heavy rainfall will affect portions of Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and western Cuba during the next few days. This rainfall could lead to significant flash flooding and mudslides.

4. The system is forecast to approach the northern Gulf Coast late this week as a hurricane. While there is large uncertainty in the track and intensity forecasts at these time ranges, there is a risk of dangerous storm surge, wind, and rainfall hazards along the coast from Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle. Residents in these areas should monitor the progress of the system and check for updates to the forecast during the week.

Tuesday morning..... www.nola.com
Says Delta is now a cat. 2 and may be a cat 4 before landfall
Think I need to change from iPad to laptop
Coming in on a course that will be between Baton Rouge and Biloxi. Friday night landfall.
WVUE news Fox Channel 8 also on now.
Need to get my act together. Do we have anyone on the Northshore between Baton Rouge and Slidell?

If it hits Cancun as a Cat 5, Cancun will cease to exist. That peninsula will be flattened.

Flhurricane.com

Delta is now a Category 4 hurricane with 130mph winds, recon just found, and the hurricane center issued a special update minutes after the 11AM Advisory. It is possible the system becomes a category 5 before landfall near Cozumel/Cancun. It is expected to weaken before landfall in the Northern Gulf, but the storm surge momentum all but guarantees a very large surge along and just to the east of the landfall point.

Key Messages:

1. Extremely dangerous storm surge and hurricane conditions are
expected within portions of the northern Yucatan Peninsula of
Mexico beginning tonight, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect.

2. Heavy rainfall will affect portions of the Cayman Islands,
western Cuba and the northern Yucatan Peninsula through midweek.
This rainfall could lead to significant flash flooding and
mudslides. The potential for heavy rain and flash flooding will
increase across portions of the central Gulf Coast, Tennessee
Valley, and southeastern United States as Delta moves inland later
this week.

3. There is an increasing likelihood of life-threatening storm surge
and dangerous hurricane-force winds, especially along the coasts of
Louisiana and Mississippi, beginning on Friday. Residents in these
areas should ensure they have their hurricane plan in place and
monitor updates to the forecast.

We just returned from that area on Thursday night. Gamma has just started to arrive and did a lot of damage. Now, this hurricane is projected to hit as a Cat 5. Many are being moved to other resorts away from the lower lying areas. I pray that they all survive. I read that the Airport has shut down. So, they can't leave even if they wanted to do so.

Ouch..... Hope they convinced everyone to leave!!!

Hurricane Delta is intensifying rapidly and is now a Category 4 storm - CNN

The storm is the second-strongest of the year in the Atlantic basin -- at 145 mph, it's just behind Hurricane Laura, which reached 150 mph.

After undergoing a "very impressive rapid intensification episode" earlier, the National Hurricane Center said "some additional strengthening is likely to occur before Delta makes expected landfall on the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula" on Wednesday morning.
