Volusia County - Daytona Beach (Ridgwood Ave corridor)

[...]

On Thursday, the state attorney also revealed a surviving victim has come forward, although that person was not identified. He said that person has helped investigators with specifics on the case.

Investigators said Hayes shot the three victims to death in secluded areas around the city.

A fourth murder victim, Stacey Gage, also died in a similar way. At Thursday's press conference, authorities said that investigation is still active.

The state attorney did not specify a timeframe as to when Hayes will be brought to Volusia County to face charges.

An acquaintance of Bey recalls meeting her in 2015. "I picked her up, and, you know, we had just a couple bucks, and she was hungry, and she was quiet," said Lisa Caputo.

Caputo says she and her friend had just picked up Bey from jail in Belle Glade just months before investigators say Hayes killed Bey and left her naked body near the Beeline Highway and Indiantown Road in March of 2016.

Caputo said, "She was a sweet girl. Through my experience if the drugs don't get you, the lifestyle will. It's unfortunate what happened to her."

She says they both were doing drugs at the time. Investigators say Bey was the last of four women Hayes murdered after moving to Palm Beach County from Volusia County.

The chief of forensic services with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Loria Napolitano, said, "The connection through these cases to the Palm Beach case was through the crime lab DNA left at the crime scene."

A couple things here as I just flew back from Deltona Lakes FL regarding a status hearing on this case. The only thing we got right was that this was an ex-cop/ security guard living in the city, and a long-haul truck driver would have far too much difficulty putting his rig onto the narrow alleyway on Beach Ave where the first victim was found . So now that we have the suspect in custody:

(1): what about the company car's tire tracks found off the dirt path, specifically the 2003 Ford Taurus factory tires and Mercury Sable the cops said was concrete proof. Did Robert own this car then?

(2) What the #### is Robert's fascination with COMMERCIAL AIRPORTS?? (1) Dumped 4th body at the end of the Daytona Airport north/south runway behind Publix (2) Months later moved up to Hathaway Hills Drive at the west end of Charlotte Douglas Airport (3) Eventually moved down to FL and took up residence next to his new work place here at Howley's Restaurant aka. first stop when you leave Palm Beach International Airport

(3) Daytona Beach investigators have been taking calls from Union County NC detectives regarding a flurry of missing cases up there in the 10 year gap he was "out of town" and switched his MO to weaponless strangulations

(4) when the Daytona cops took 1000's of swabs from motorists along the strip, why didnt they simply swab every 40 caliber Smith and Wesson Sigma Series VE purchaser in the city as well? why didnt they just match his fingerprints from his initial March 2006 interview and follow-up interview paperwork

(5) did his Smith and Wesson really get stolen one year later in Riviera Beach or was it scrapped at GLE Scrap Metal back in Daytona along with his broken stove and 2003 Mercury Sable..

(6) I couldnt be anymore curious as to what exactly this mysterious survivor has to say about his brutal attack on her back in 2005. And even more curious as to what THE WITNESS will say here in court coming up. Earth shattering testimony.

Suspected Daytona Beach serial killer being held without bond

"Robert looked drastically older since he was first booked in back in September" according to WKMG-6 Orlando, and the video proves it. In a mere 5 months of jail, he is now grayed out at 37.

He knows the state has a mountain of evidence and must be up to his eyeballs stressing out in there. From the article we know Florida transferred him stealthily through the night back to his old stomping grounds in Daytona Beach. The judge here quickly ordered back to Palm Beach jail to face charges in that case. She doesnt want to see him back in Daytona Courts until May 19th at 830am.

Accused Florida serial killer has connection to Charlotte area

UPDATE OUT OF CHARLOTTE:

"Did Robert Hayes lose his front plate at Florida scene? Current tenant has same exact Kia cars.."

Startling new evidence now out of West Charlotte has current resident Josue Boyzo reacting in a flurry and leaving a cryptic message with a reporter. A 2014 traffic stop landed a key piece of evidence in the case of the 2005 Daytona Beach Serial Killer. Court docs revealed his plate was "747LMX" in a brand new Black Kia. Upon a simple google search, coupled with a brief pause of the WBTV video, we noticed not one, but BOTH Kia's still in the driveway at 4101 Hathaway Hills Dr just west of the Charlotte Airport. The man that answered the door, Josue Boyzo, eerily responded about some things possibly left behind and that Hayes will not be returning to retrieve them.

May 19th 2020, 8:30AM: Even with The Rona crippling most of north central Florida, Judge Zambrano plowed ahead this morning and got the notorious Daytona Beach Serial Killer case well under way. So did the defendant.

Most of the gallery was stunned when Hayes stood before the sanctioning body to officially announce that he has in fact fired local counsel Francis Shea, and immediately replaced the public defender with hired gun Mitchell "Mitch" Wrenn of 339 South Ridgewood Ave, of all places. Wrenn admitted he is also "very familiar with the Ridgewood Ave corridor", which some interpreted as a cryptic message in and of itself..

Will there be anymore unexpected turns in the case? Did Howley's Restaurant or a "close friend" back in Charlotte foot the bill for this hotshot lawyer? Does Wrenn have any tricks up his sleeve to free Hayes? Why hasnt the 2008 murder been tacked on yet? Who exactly was driving the 2003 Mercury Sable? It may all point to a 2nd suspect, one that may even hold a badge.

But the question that most reporters had in the hallway was, "if Hayes owned two Kia vehicles, what was he doing at a bustop throwing out a cigarette?"..

This case goes to the Grand Jury on June 22nd 2020 at 830am.

Just flew back from the 4th status hearing in the case:

-A quick, but heated argument was sparked right off the bat this morning in regards to a disappearing act of the 132 days Volusia County has Hayes loqqed in their records. Privately hired defense attorney Christopher Anderson vehemently added that the nights spent down the coast at 3228 Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach should be counted concurrently with Daytona but still no one can explain the 19 day gap in which no one has RH in their records. Several reporters in the crowd were stumped of Hayes' whereabouts but quickly noted that Palm Beach officials have opted to lodge Hayes less than 2 miles from the 2016 grizzly scene of Rachel Bay (the only thing that separates Hayes' cell from Bay's memorial site is Trump National Golf's 7th Hole).

More importantly, the newly hired Anderson successfully fought to have the State of Florida pick up the $7,500 tab for Private Investigator for the defense as well as key transportation payments regarding King Air flights into Daytona Beach. Anderson also won a key motion to appoint Dr. Hyman H. Eisenstein, PH.D. to serve as the defense's neuropsychologist expert to the cost of the state of Florida. Eisenstein was most recently famous for appearing in both of the OJ Simpson cases. A stone-faced Anderson again rejected questions as to who exactly is picking up the defense attorney bill.

Judge Zambrano set the next contest as open to the public on July 21st at 830am, whether Dr Eisenstein or any of Hayes' other cast of characters show remains to be seen. The 2008 murder remains off the list of charges.

UPDATE w/WRST*: This morning's hearing here in Volusia County was by far the most fireworked filled fray we've seen yet. The defense unveiled the hiring of flashy Private Investigator, Fred A. Hillerich, to the stand. In a surprising twist, Judge Zambrano approved the requests for the PI to travel to Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The mere mention of the Hayes and the state of North Carolina lead to immediate rumours among the gallery reporters. We do know that investigators learned that Hayes filled in some of the missing 2006-2016 gap in North Carolina, and Union County detectives up there were handed with a series of missing person cases in that time frame. Moments later, the 3rd Supplemental Witness List was issued. More rumours in the gallery were lead to the defense possibly pinning all 4 murders to a man in South Carolina or Pennsylvania.

Hayes immediately called for a Continuance w/ WRST* to the court, and Zambrano set the date for August 28th at 0830AM, live for the viewers on Zoom conference for those that downloaded it. Hayes remains at Volusia Branch Jail, just 2 miles off LPGA Blvd.

**WRST=Waive Right To Speedy Trial

Stephen I. Bloomfield also added to the defense team.

"Annoying NASCAR Traffic Disrupts Case" -Deltona News Journal 8/18/20.

Shifting court rooms, shifting court dates, near daily lawyer swaps mixed in with NASCAR haulers breaking down may as well set the tone for what maybe the biggest court case Northern Florida has seen in decades. An August 28th Pre-trial hearing was cancelled by Judge Zambrano as he learned that NASCAR added a second race weekend in as many weeks in the town.

Attempting to avoid the crowds and NASCAR traffic for Daytona International Speedway's new Road Course Weekend, Zambrano scheduled a closer date of August 17th. That too was disrupted by several NASCAR haulers breaking down along International Speedway Blvd. Complicating things even worse was the theft of Mike Harmon's entire #74/47 truck and trailer leaving police activity everywhere. Running out of options, and court dates, he switched the criminal hearing to a Zoom conference. That meant that nobody goes anywhere.

A backup court date? The September 8th 830am hearing has also been pass-reset for October 12th at 830am at the downtown Justice Center, reasons not disclosed. In the meantime, odds are not in favor of the September 22nd 830am here in the Branch Jail Courtroom 1.

Thanks everybody for the emails, phone calls, media requests, and faxes. Just some final updates before we head on into the Christmas stretch and next round of court dates.

As you know, the Status Conference which was held on Monday the 21st via Zoom, included Zambrano granting several more thousand dollars to defense investigator Fred Hillerich. Several more thousands to the tune of $10,000.00 or $75 an hour, whichever is easier to access. Yesterday's 830am live Pre-trial Custody at Branch Jail Courtroom 1 was cancelled due to Covid-19, but rescheduled for December 8th at 830am.

Ungvarsky has a history of flipping serial killing cases onto phantom suspects and quickly relieving his client. Working for the notorious and very secretive Capitol Defender's Service, Ed would *attempt* to tie this brand new 2007 case, with the still uncharged case of Stacey Gage, with the woman who just came forward and said "he also attacked me, but didnt kill me" case of 2009, and slowly undo the initial 3 cases thru several alternate suspects and mass confusion. Remember the cops have interviewed over 165+ potential suspects.

2ND PERSON OF INTEREST? GEORGIA ALIBI? BAD BEER?

The defense has announced their case! Just Amtrak'd back from the 12/7-12/8 pretrial hearings in Daytona Beach and the Websleuthers guessed it right! Defense attorneys will say that Hayes has admitted to paying several prostitutes, most importantly including Gunther Green and Bey, having sex with them, but that he was not the one that killed them. Hayes says he was "in Georgia" for 3 of the 4 charges. Interestingly, defense attorneys ordered a digital transcript of inmate Roger Bateman who was being lodged at the Volusia County Jail on Battery charges on January 18th 2008. ALTERNATE SUSPECT? Attorneys also demanded discovery of a March 24th 2006 interview of Ann Richards, claiming she saw Bateman in the vicinity as well. Defense attorneys also say that the beer bottles the prosecution is saying ties the defendant to a bus stop in Palm Beach, instead instantly rules him out. Whereas, Hayes actually does NOT drink Steel Reserve nor Heineken beer, and would never consume alcohol at a bus stop either.

Meanwhile, prosecutors in the case entered (16) damning points as to how it was specifically Hayes that is the guilty party:

"TO INTRODUCE INEXTRICABLY INTERTWINED COLLATERAL CRIME EVIDENCE"
-that Hayes said he gave the firearm to his mother in late 2005. Detectives recently spoke with Florence and she denied that she ever obtained possession of the S&W
-a 508 cell number that Hayes gave to Palm Beach police in 2016 (on an unrelated matter), was tracked to less than .06 of a mile of the dead body of Bey at 1:27AM. Eerily, detectives say that long after Bey was murdered, that phone was still being used...
-the owner of Buck's Guns specifically remembers Hayes in his store, not Bateman

Another Daytona 500, another Daytona Beach serial killing case: February 9th 2021 at 830AM is when both parties will meet again.

"Hayes Puts Law Degree To Use, Refuses To Remain Silent Though"

Just arrived here at the court house where several national news media tents have been erected in preparation for tomorrow's big hearing. An 'ever-angry' Hayes arrived in from Palm Beach yesterday where some reporters said he 'could be heard shouting' from the other side of the walls about a startling new piece of evidence that should completely toss his first case. "A witness says he saw Bey alive well after 2AM, and my cell phone clearly puts me back at my house from 2:09AM until sunset! It would be impossible for me to do this!", says the defendant according to a reporter from the Sun-Sentinel. The state attorney admitted that Hayes could get alleviated through a series of coincidences.

The Sun-Sentinel also states that the defendant is 'very unhappy' at his public defenders out of Palm Beach after they 'more than suggested' that he plead guilty to the untimely death of the 32 year old in 2016. The former Daytona-resident had plenty to write about with the qualms of his attorneys from Broward County, even after the chief public defender just resigned herself from the case. As for the Daytona Beach trial? Local attorneys say they have had 'no issues' with the 37 year old but did advise that he should have kept and listened to his Palm Beach counsel:

Four murders, then the breakthrough: How DNA led to this serial killings suspect in Florida

Attorneys for the state have announced they have and will provide a survivor of Hayes' brutal attacks to the stand. The woman has come forward after the state of Florida has confirmed 'there is a cold chance in hell' he will be released from the iron shackles. Her startling new testimony should only bolster the prosecution's case.

In other news, Chief Judge Zambrano has announced that Hayes' cases in Volusia County will be tried first, and that Palm Beach will have to wait should they proceed forward.

Man accused of murdering 3 women in Daytona Beach also allegedly killed woman in Palm Beach County

The defense apparently continues to 'shrug off' the case and still considers their alternate suspect as 'low hanging fruit'. Roger Bateman, now 64, continues to be on electronic monitoring after accruing various other charges in the county.

UPDATE**: Judge Upchurch has just scheduled an impromptu criminal hearing set for this Tuesday June 15th at 245pm now in the downtown court house. This is open to the public for those interested in the inner workings of the case. This is also marks the end of the zoom hearings from the jail and the end of the notorious Florida covid-19 pandemic.

All guests must be re-registered as impartial observers for both Tuesday's live hearing and July 14th's hearing in downtown Daytona as well.

Also note that David Dinardi has been entered in for a June 10th deposition. Rumours quickly swirling that he may be the wedge that proves there were no fingerprints of Hayes on the beer cans found at the bus stop, and instead the fingerprints may point to a more familiar face around the Ridgewood Ave corridor..
