'Night and day': Toronto doctor speaks out as hospitals fill up and COVID-19 patients die
“The COVID ward is a place of desolation. It’s a place of quiet -- an eerie sense of quiet -- where there’s very little in the way of human contact and connection that patients would ordinarily have from their family and their loved ones. Because patients are in individual rooms, they’re isolated in the truest sense,” he said Monday.''

He’s seen patients die “very suddenly” after spending a few days forming bonds with them. It has been “absolutely heartbreaking” for him and members of his team at Toronto General Hospital, he said.

“And then I see parking lots that are full outside of malls because people are trying to beat the Christmas holiday rush before a lockdown to get a good deal on an item.''

“This is somebody’s family member that I’m seeing and I’m pronouncing as dead after I talked to them and spent some quality time with them a few days ago,” he said, suggesting that that reality doesn’t appear to have sunk in for many Canadians.''

Children's/Victoria Hospital in London - the nurse deserves to lose her job IMO
she works with preemies!!!

On Monday, the hospital said 19 staff members had tested positive for COVID-19, though the source of the spread is not known. An outbreak is ongoing on a medicine and an orthopedics ward at University Hospital.

The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, however, said Nagle's actions are dangerous and has reported Nagle's anti-lockdown activities to the College of Nurses of Ontario, which regulates the profession.

I feel like not only does she deserve to lose her job, she deserves to lose her license. She should be charged criminally too.
I'm glad your friend's baby is ok! All those parents must be so scared right now.

Neighbourhood gossip; Hockey groups from Toronto have rented ice time at our local small town arena.

... I found some encouragement in todays news that
Health Canada grants emergency-use authorization to Eli Lilly's COVID-19 antibody treatment ... 'designed to block viral attachment and entry into human cells, thus neutralizing the virus and potentially treating COVID-19'

The good news as this may work, bad news it is usually not soon enough MOO

Hope different in Canada as the bad news is that most all folks are told to stay at home in the US until the symptoms get so bad they had to go to the hospital. By then, they are in the secondary stage which this drug is too late for.

Great for those that were associated with..a world leader and can get right at the beginning before the lung/cytokine etc stage when it's not effective? . well... sitting on hands.

MOO

… the flip of the coin … I can see that. I’m encouraged that the antibody is to be given at the mild to moderate stage, before hospitalization … also encouraged that it’s given by infusion and this can be done at a number of health care settings other than hospitals. I’m not aware of anyone in Canada who has received this treatment no matter were they are in the pecking order but considering that Canada expects to receive 26,000 doses over three months while we are seeing about 5,000 new infections a day, pecking order may well be a decisive influence – very discouraging.

Let us hope that vaccine distribution will not be handled by these (alleged) type of people..imo, speculation.
Family involved in theft of $11M of COVID-19 relief funds, Ontario government claims
Nov 25 2020
''A Toronto couple and their two adult sons, who all worked as Ontario government computer specialists, are alleged to have been involved in the theft of more than $11 million in COVID-19 relief funds, the Star has learned.

According to documents filed with the Ontario Superior Court, “some or all of” Sanjay Madan, Shalini Madan, their sons Chinmaya Madan and Ujjawal Madan, and their associate Vidhan Singh, allegedly perpetrated “a massive fraud” by funneling millions of dollars in pandemic payments to a slew of bank accounts.''

If any participating in the "freedom" rally become ill with covid, will they also deny or should they be denied, treatment for it? speculation, imo.

Anti-lockdown protest to be held at Yonge-Dundas Square - CityNews Toronto
''An anti-lockdown protest originally planned for the Kitchener-Waterloo region is making its way to Toronto.

Organizers of the so-called, “freedom rally,” say they’ve decided to gather at Yonge-Dundas Square instead.

It follows this week’s escalating events at an Etobicoke BBQ joint — in which the owner was arrested and charged for defying the region’s 28-day lockdown restrictions.

Supporters of Adamson BBQ gathered outside the restaurant for three straight days before owner Adam Skelly was arrested and proceeded to protest outside Premier Doug Ford’s home in Etobicoke.

A similar anti-lockdown protest was held at Queen’s Park on Thursday as well that was attended by Independent MPP Randy Hillier.

The mayor of Waterloo tweeted about the change of venue while expressing concern over the potential for confrontation between counter-protesters in both Toronto and Waterloo.''
