Assuming that figure is 1) correct and 2) includes the paid-for house, the Ms would be considered house-poor. Strapped for cash while struggling to maintain the appearance of wealth can cause enormous tension and conflict within a marriage. I agree that finances will ultimately be revealed as the motive in this case.
That is probably low. That excludes any existing things in Indiana, the Longhorn land etc. etc. I doubt they were cash strapped.

Christmas coming and the one who disappeared SM still walks the streets.

Thanks to all of you for keeping the thread going. I have to check in periodically and it’s sad there is no arrest. I have to believe there’s a ton of evidence. Surely they aren’t waiting on a body to turn up?
I don’t believe there is a “ton of evidence.” But I have hope LE can solve it for the family.

Agree.
Like a missing planet in a system all the dynamics, and police actions following up on her disappearance point to the spouse.
But that isn't enough.
I don't think the new DA will be filing with what evidence was turned over to her.
I think she will wait as long as possible on the chance of finding more and definitive evidence.

Barry recently putting out flyers sounds like he is finally heeding a lawyers advice.

I find it hard to believe that BM could plan her murder this well. And that there would not be a lot of evidence.

Unless..he may have had help. I even wondered if his plans began when they bought the house and he convinced SM to invest her inheritance in that home, knowing he could sell it after she was disappeared.

From all I have heard, he seems to be another Patrick Frazee. Then again, he could innocent and unlucky?

Whoever did this, hid her very well and that would be easy to do in CO.

Flyers? Sheesh! Why doesn’t he get on tv every day, talk to others out loud. Maybe really look for her? Oh that’s right. He already made a FB video for 26 seconds. Sorry BM, a lot of folks don’t even look at FB. But then, you knew that.

I’m sure he could find a sympathetic hungry reporter who will ask him preapproved fluff questions, and he could make a carefully crafted statement with his girls standing beside him. Problem is he knows he can’t pull it off.

Every interview and action is a response to something.

We had those interviews in which he accused those employees of being “meth heads,” which followed their interviews with the media.

When the media picked up on Andy’s search efforts, Barry responded by ridiculing it.

When Andy cast aspersions on Barry, Barry responded in kind.

When Barry approached Andy’s group with a gun, he responded to the backlash by allowing them on his property.

When it was revealed that he was selling his home, he conducted an interview in which he released those love letters and explained why he was selling.

What he was responding to when he handed out flyers yesterday, we can only guess.

I have a couple of ideas, but I don’t think they can be mentioned here.

I still think the motive is 100% financial and it was something that has been planned for a long time. Buying the house in Colorado is suspicious - why not let the younger daughter finish high school in Indiana? Why take Suzanne away from her oncologist and her other doctors? Why take her from family and friends? Doing all of that just to be closer to a daughter that, at the time, had only a couple years left in college is a weak excuse. I think something else was going on. Also, I think last February could be important and I’m not talking about Valentine’s Day.

If I were missing, I would want family like Jennifer Kesse’s parents or Echo Lloyd’s daughter.

Cash Strapped?

@Momofthreeboys Thx for post.

Does PP home and their IN rental props being mtg-free (assuming they were, and not collateral for HELOC) mean the M's were not cash-strapped?
Some posters commented about their pricey vacations, newer vehicles, designer clothing, a dau living away at college (for second yr?), etc. Paying for that plus other ordinary living expenses (food, utilities, ins, taxes, etc) typically comes from:
- current income,
--- earned income, e.g., landscaping business, and/or
--- passive income (stock dividends, savings/bank/bond interest, etc) and/or
--- rental income from IN real est, and/or
- selling ^ real est, or other capital investments, like stocks, mutual funds, bonds, precious metals, jewelry, etc
Or maybe gifts (e.g., family trust established by parents?) every year, or gambling/casino winnings, or a combo of ^.

Years ago a friend years ago told me about her newly married acquaintance, set for life based on the groom :D w a "net worth of eight figures." Privy to details of groom's failing business & finances, I knew those "eight figures" did not tally to ten+ millions but were closer to being about $ 00,010,000. :eek: { ETA: Three very important figures on left side of the number were zeros.}
I don't know if the M's are/were cash strapped, but there's a reason behind the saying House-Rich, Cash-Poor. my2cts.

I agree that the primary motive in this case was/is financial. And that the important difference between net worth and liquidity is likely to have played a part.

I've wondered for a while now why, given the likely mortgage rates at the time of purchase, the PP house was bought in cash.

Maybe SM/BM were the types of people who hate the idea of a debt, even when it's being serviced at a rate of 2-3% or so, or maybe it's easier to convince a spouse to invest an inheritance in a property by paying in cash, rather than arranging for a modest mortgage and keeping some cash in hand.

May be immaterial, but IMO it isn't just the fact of finances but the why and how of finances that may be at the heart of this case. And a cancer diagnosis, plus major move and fresh start, draws attention to those financial whys and hows in a whole new way.

Do we know approximately when SM recovered from her last bout with cancer? I could imagine that BM anticipated her passing by going through cancer a second time. I have limited knowledge on cancer and chemo, but perhaps he started making plans for a new life after SM and grew attached to the thought of that new life. Jmo

I’m assuming that they purchase health insurance through the Marketplace, since Barry is self employed, unless being a volunteer firefighter enables the family to enroll in a plan. They would have had to change marketplace plans with the move to Colorado. I wonder if they had good coverage or bare bones. I know preexisting conditions are covered, but you can end up paying a lot for treatment if you choose a cheaper plan. Suzanne’s care could have been costing a lot out of pocket.

Medical science has made amazing progress in cancer treatment in recent years. It is still quite serious, but much of the deadly horror no longer exists due to improvements in diagnosis and treatment. There is no reason to believe that her life was ever in danger, just because she went through chemo recently. There is also no way, in my opinion, that she could have gone through chemo recently out without deep spousal involvement; and some strong financial agreement between partners. Killing her for money after the chemo is done would be nonsensical.
Like closing the barn door after the cows have gone.
IMO

One can go through chemo without “deep spousal involvement.” Some people literally have no one.

Suzanne’s brush with death may have spurred her to reevaluate her life and happiness, and it’s entirely possible that she was exploring moving on.

Couple this with both girls reaching an age where they would soon be out of the house, and you very well could have a recipe for change.

That’s just one possibility of course, but it shows how money could factor in.

Divorce is money, and money could be motive.

Barry didn’t want to cut the pie in half? So he killed his wife. He planned a fake bike ride, created a solid alibi and hid her body.

Is this more or less the whole story? Or is it way bigger? I’d love to know.
Yup, with the exception of “a solid alibi.”

He created an alibi that appears to be more damning than helpful. This is likely to be more nuanced than simply not wanting to share, but I think it’s a huge part of it.

Is there not an element of weirdness with this case? Morphew family behaviour? Lauren Scharf? Barry’s ‘cultic’ followers? Or is this typical in cases such as this and the strangeness will eventually prove to have little or no relevance?

Umm, I noticed.....
And some of LS' interactions with others have caused me to sit up and take notice.
Holy crapp.
Imo.

This is a great post. I think it is important to verify it BM checked in to the hotel on May 9th or 10th.
I think the critical time frame is between Saturday evening and 4am Sunday morning.

Saturday evening ‘incident’? 6pm+/-
11pm - Noise at the construction site, (Was BM placed there by the GPS? Was a Bobcat at the construction site? Was he doing ‘something mechanical to it’?
11pm-4am ... out and about
4am - Outside MG house
Returns to Puma Path
5am leaves for Broomfield..

BM was not sleeping Saturday night. He did NOT wake up in the middle of the night to drive over to MG’s house to call her from outside her gate. The timing of leaving for Broomfield at 5am, works perfectly for him leaving MGs house at 4am, driving back to his house and then leaving at 5am. It would also work with the construction site noise at 11/12pm, and give him a time frame of 4-5 hours to dispose of evidence.

it is important to know when the crew were asked to go to Brookfield. If it was Sunday, that was his alibis and it was plotted that night.

On a larger scale, there may be an element of weirdness in America. By the way, I am American.
