Crafts To Do During Covid Restrictions

And I’m done! Super cute. Truly enjoyed learning this new pattern. Made a coordinating pillow and a changing pad with a flannel backing. I put a curtain rod in the channel to test it.

That is a cute idea. The 2 remaining seahorse blocks are 12” so they’d be too big. (See photo) When I make a baby quilt, I always add extras that were not asked for or, like in this case, ordered. Whatever I make is always a surprise.

My preference is always a small pillow. Nearly every baby I’ve ever sewed for needs a nursery school blanket for nap time. So I make a pillow to match. That way everyone knows who it belongs to. I also think it’s gross to make a small child lie on a icky sticky dirty rubber mat too but that’s just me. (I know they wipe them but still.)

So, all the babies & toddlers in my bubble get a blankie and pillow. The Moms are over the moon happy and love that I make them so big. This quilt is about 44” x 58” plenty big for naps and lots of fun draping over chairs, etc.

That is a great idea! I love the pillow matching the quilt!

I just ordered two hot glue guns for our library to be able to check out to people. Yay!

Had a volunteer come in and slice paper for the next craft. We're just about ready for January's.
Awe. If I was there, I'd come help you prep the kits. Maybe you should have hot glue gun lessons? LOL! I know we all burned ourselves at one point. Now I use a paper plate to sit the hot glue gun on.

This is the turtle quilt I made for my daughter's friend. It is a sailboat block. The husband was/is a turtle researcher. The wife was from England.

They later had a son and my daughter asked me to make him a quilt as a gift. When he was 2, they switched him to a toddler bed. His quilt is now his bedspread.

Adorable quilt! You are so talented, and I really enjoy your photos. Thanks for sharing.

I vacuumed up all the thread and dust bunnies from the seahorse quilt today. Took a nap. Started digging thru my stash for a fabric I need but couldn’t find. You know how you find stuff when you're not looking? Well, I found the wolf panel I got on clearance a few years ago. So I made 3 pillows today. My youngest is thrilled.

I use an old cutting board, looks too suspect to use with food but protects the table or counter from the glue & heat.

Maybe a paper plate or two could be included in the kit, for people who lack a sacrificial cutting board?

I “slothed” it today. My oldest has a best friend who loves sloths. One of my best friends, Kristine, has a daughter that loves sloths. Kristine found sloth flannel, and sent it to me to make her daughter masks. My oldest saw them and requested some too. Sloth masks were today’s theme. Now to make fisherman’s knots which makes them adjustable.

Cute! You don't see a sloth fabric every day. :)

Dahlia wreath is the January craft grab bag. I did it tonight so I could count the pieces of paper needed.

@JaneEyre , that's beautiful!

Could you share a link with us, or explain the shape of the petals -- and how many.

ETA: found directions from another library's make&take:

If you want to do it with book pages, here are my instructions (which I haven't really tweaked yet - just wrote quickly for my Facebook friends).

Those of you who are interested in doing this project, but are not patrons at my library, here's what you need: 12 inch cardboard circle. 110 4 X 4 inch pieces of book pages, 10 3 X 3 pieces of book pages, a bit of twine, and a hot glue gun. Cut your hole for the twine hanger prior to beginning to place the cones.

Fold you book page pieces into cones and hot glue them together. Start by placing your first cones about 1 inch in from the outer circle, about 3/4 to 1 inch apart. Place your next row of cones in between these, about 1 more inch in from the first row. Continue until you reach the middle, where you will switch to the 3 inch paper cones.

Further, I'll tell you I started with 23 cones on the outside. If you do this, 110 4 inch cones and 10 3 inch should be enough.

I have moved back to my youngest daughter's horse quilt. She wants to be a vet so my quilts for her are animal themed.

It has been a work in progress for about 5 years. I got started in the spring of 2015 and my house sold in the fall of 2015. In 2016, I got back on it but I did some cutting mistakes when I misinterpreted the pattern. I thought I got it right, luckily found some coordinating border fabric, and continued on.

In 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer so again it was put on hold for over a year. In 2018, after being stable for months, I went to NH to visit my aunt. I wanted her help to get it back on track. She was 2 years out from breast cancer and I was a year out from my bone marrow transplant. The two of us, our short hair and pallor skin, taking naps mid day, worked away at it. She is an amazing quilter and mentored me through what needed to be done.

We got the top assembled. She taught me to miter the corners. When I returned to FL, I started hand quilting the center 10 blocks. That was last winter. This past summer she taught me machine quilting. Now I am machine quilting the outer 10 blocks. It is a full size quilt so the inner squares would have been difficult to do on a regular machine, which is what I have.

I made a horse head template and I am hand stitching in the center to keep the batting in place. I have 6 blocks left. Then I can start sewing the borders down.
