The fact of the matter is that Californians are not paying heed to the restrictions. Stores like Target were shoulder to shoulder during the days leading up to Christmas. My daughter was at a supermarket in Long Beach (LA County) on New Year’s Eve. She walked out due to the massive crowds. Other states shouldn’t take our positivity rates as a sign that restrictions and masks are not working. We are not staying home and continue to flaunt the rules. No one cares until it hits one of their loved ones who doesn’t make it. That’s a fact.

I think that is exactly the issue. Some places are putting in restrictions that people ignore, and others figure "why bother," if it can't be enforced.

In my town in SoCal people do follow the rules and are very responsible with the distancing. Our stores do enforce it too. However, I am aware of some restaurants and bars in nearby towns that aren't respecting the rules in place.

An article on my phone today says the California Department of Public Health issued a travel advisory on Wednesday which calls for:

>>>snip

1. Except in connection with essential travel, Californians should avoid travel to any part of the state more than 120 miles from their places of residence;

2. Non-essential travelers from other states are strongly discouraged from entering California;
and

3. All persoms arriving/returning to California from other states or countries should self-quarrentine for 10 days after arrival, except for those engaged in essential travel.

The Health Officer Order is in addition to the state's stay-at-home order issued in late November which implemented a statewide curfew and requires masks in all activities where individuals will be or can be in contact with non-household members.

Of course it is.

Look at these numbers, from Wednesday:

One of my boys recently moved to California. Says it's killing businesses due to restrictions. His office is still closed, and he will be w@h for probably another 6 months. Must be tight, as he's from Atlanta, whose restrictions were much greater than ours in S GA. He may end up in Austin, Texas if his company decides to leave California- which is a tossed around possibility.

It's interesting to watch, from a distance. Some people in AZ are clamoring for all of the restrictions that have had no visible effect on Covid in CA. Meanwhile our roads are packed with cars with CA license plates. Friends who work at resorts in Phoenix say they are loaded with people escaping CA.

I live on the Fl/Ga line. The amount of NY, NJ, PA, and DC license plates driving into Florida is astounding

Unfortunately these people will all be labeled "virus deniers" by many. The reality is that people who live active social lives, outside of the home, can't survive a ten month (and counting) stretch in a closed society. Our Governor (in AZ) talks about the collateral damage from lock downs, such as depression, suicide, drug abuse, domestic violence, etc. I wish he would also talk about the positive aspects of being open. Dinners in a restaurant, a trip to a casino, sitting on a bar stool watching a game, enjoying live music, attending or hosting parties, etc. All of these things are extremely important to many people's daily lives, yet some places deny that completely.
