Springfield police say they're still trying to solve 1975 kidnapping, murder

“Bill Lloyd, who led the police investigation of Shirley's death, told the News-Leader in 1995 he believed the killing was motivated by either drug sales or drug use. Lloyd reportedly said he thought the son of a former Springfield business owner with possible mob ties was responsible.”

What in the world would a child have to do with drug use or sales? Revenge? Wonder how she was killed. IMO if she were sexually assaulted in any way I wouldn’t lean toward the “mob ties”. Wonder why he felt this way? MOO

I just read a blog (can’t post here), her remains were recovered too decomposed to tell if it were indeed strangulation but that is what LE believed. Also couldn’t tell if sexually assaulted. So sad. Going to look at other child abductions/murders in that area around then. MOO

Trying? They might do something more than "trying"....
44 years have already passed...

on Springfield Police website,
On October 17, 1975, 9-year-old Shirley Jane Rose was abducted while walking from her grandparent's home at 865 S. West. Shirley was walking to her home at 1309 S. Scenic between the times of 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing Shirley walking on Scenic and reported seeing Shirley talking to a male subject in a blue Chevy car. Shirley never made it home and her mother contacted the Springfield Police Department. An intensive search of the area was conducted by police, family and citizens but Shirley was not found.

Almost two months later, on December 13, 1975, Shirley's body was found in a shallow grave near McDaniel Lake. Springfield Police Department Detectives identified several persons of interest and numerous interviews were conducted but no charges were filed. This case remains unsolved.

Season One - The Toll Podcast — The Toll

Apparently there is even a podd about her case with several episodes .

Haven't listed yet but I read that a dying man confessed to her murder to a judge but so far his name has never been revealed to the public. However there were suspects but none charged so it remaines cold

We often write about missing or unidentified people on these boards but rarely about murder victims. Would be interesting to know how many cold cases there are with murdered children in the country.

Sad sad end for this sweet little gal. One of many in that area, many victims never found.
Bold lawless groups worked there for many years... The effects are still hard on their families today. MOO
