Thanks for this @Niner!!

Just want to clarify that dad is not charged with poisoning; both of them are charged with child abuse and torture. Then Lindsey is also charged with poisoning, while Jordan is charged with failure to provide.

Interesting that Dad was not charged with poisoning but was charged with torture and child abuse, and failure to provide.

What type of torture, if not poisoning?

Could be physical, maybe they could tell from healed injuries on Roman's remains. I would think withholding food and water is torturous, as well as proving that he's failed to provide for the child. Maybe the other kids told LE how they were allowed to eat but Roman was not. I've seen other cases in the past where the siblings try to sneak the one being starved some of their food.

From the complaint:

to cause cruel and extreme pain and suffering for the purpose of revenge, extortion, persuasion and for a sadistic purpose, inflict great bodily injury, as defined in Penal Code section 12022.7,
upon R.L.. NOTICE: The above offense is a serious felony within the meaning of Penal Code Section 1192.7(c) and a violent felony within the meaning of Penal Code Section 667.5(c)

In January of last year, Jordan Piper’s son Roman Lopez, 11, was found dead inside a storage bin in the family basement severely malnourished. His death ruled suspicious.

It wasn’t until a year later Placerville police arrested the Pipers, charging them with child abuse, neglect and torture. Lindsay Piper was also charged with poisoning.

All three kids and the Pipers’ other children were living in the home when Roman was found dead.

“It may not have been just Roman, there is proof that it wasn’t just him,” said Justin.

After Roman’s death, Child Protective Services granted the Brousseaus’ custody. Justin remembers picking them up in California malnourished, being treated with antibiotics and fluoride, and severely iron deficient.

“They were just scared, nervous, shy,” she said.

“They were very malnourished. All they wanted to do was eat and drink,” said Jason. “How could you deprive a kid of something like that?”

CBS13 asked if the children know and understand what happened to Roman Lopez.

“If they do know anything, or if they did see anything, they’re not ready to talk about it,” Justin said.

Seven other children were under the care of Jordan and Lindsay Piper when Roman died. Three of those children are now home safe with family in Michigan.

“It’s time to fix it. It’s time to get justice for these guys,” said Justin Brousseau. She is the aunt of Miraiya, 8, Cindy, 4, and Lucas, 3.

Brousseau and her husband Jason spoke with CBS13 from Flint, Michigan. She says her nieces and nephew are finally smiling again.

[..]

But it’s taken a while to see their smiles grow. Their upbringing has been complex already. For three years, Lindsay and Jordan Piper had custody of all three kids.

Lindsay Piper is a childhood friend of Justin and her brother, who is the children’s biological father. The Pipers volunteered to be guardians, after Justin’s brother was struggling to care for his kids.

They had been living with the Pipers in their Placerville home for just a few months, but that’s where the Brousseaus’ believe the neglect started.

“You know there was abuse happening in that household,” said Jason.

Bio dad Justin alleges there's also proof of child abuse of his three children in addition to Roman. It appears to me all the children were possibly poisoned. Any evidence the couple is facing additional charges here?

I watched the video bit and it just broke my heart for those sweet kids. So glad the bio uncle and wife were able to take them in. If there is any evidence of abuse or neglect, then I hope they're charged with every single count for every kid. I'm sure curious what the older kids had to say, and what kind of shape they were in, when taken from the home.

Horrific details emerge in death of 11-year-old Roman Lopez

“At the time of Roman’s death, the Pipers were caring for seven other children. Three of the children were not related to the Pipers and are back with their biological family and another three were placed with Child Protective Services. One of the children is now 18, Wren said.”

So there were 8 children (one now 18) and two adults in that house?

CA - Roman Anthony Lopez, 11, found deceased, poisoned , Placerville, 11 Jan 2020 *arrests*

2/4/21 Update: Lindsey & Jordon Piper were arrested & charged. Arraignment hearing on 2/8/21. 2/8/21 Update: Father & stepmother plead 'not guilty' for the death of Roman when they were in court on Monday. No additional charges were added. Jordon Piper has retained an attorney, David Brooks, with 35 years of criminal defense experience. Lindsey Piper told the judge she cannot afford outside representation so she'll be assigned a court appointed attorney. The Pipers are expected back in court on Tuesday, Feb. 9 for a preliminary hearing at 1:30pm.
2/9/21 Update: The case against the Pipers returned Tuesday to El Dorado Superior Court to schedule a preliminary hearing, in which testimony will be heard & evidence will be presented for the judge to determine whether there’s sufficient evidence for the Pipers to stand trial. Pipers on Tuesday afternoon decided to waive that right & postpone scheduling their preliminary hearing, said Joe Alexander, El Dorado County Chief Assistant District Attorney. And defense needs more time to review discovery. Alexander said the Pipers were scheduled to return to court March 8 to schedule their pre-preliminary hearing. The two will remain in custody at the El Dorado County Jail.
