...Jerry told investigators that they then put the child in an Epsom salt bath and he went to a pharmacy to buy medication to help with the bruising before Tori became unresponsive. Prosecutors said law enforcement was able to get surveillance footage of Jerry making the purchase at the pharmacy as well...
Thank you, hadn't read that part.

What the heck is wrong with people who resort to chronic child abuse? Just don't get it.........

Parents of abused children were frequently victims of such abuse themselves. It's a vicious cycle. I expect some type of mental health defense for Ariel, and I suspect that we might learn that Tori's adoptive mother was subject to physical abuse in her own childhood. MOO

<respectfully snipped>

I wonder how often it was necessary to get "medication" for Tori's bruising? Besides arnica (homeopathic remedy), I'm not aware of other OTC products that reduce bruising. Even arnica doesn't reduce bruising immediately, so it seems that the parents' goal was to camouflage the bruising before authorities noticed.

Yes, and wonder how many people know this remedy. Seems like they’ve done this before. Also have to wonder what she did in the time he was gone?

SC 3-Year-Old Victoria Rose Smith’s Murder: Friend Of Accused Killer Speaks Out, Questions SCDSS

Jill has known Ariel Robinson since they were kids. She said Ariel grew up in a loving, religious home with a strict father.

“She did tend to be a bully in our early elementary years, but by middle school she was the girl that everyone was friends with,” Jill said.

Ariel gave birth to her first born son when she was in high school, Jill said.

Looking back now on Ariel’s social media, Jill remembers thinking that something was off.

“Literally just about everyday, you saw a post about Tori,” Jill said. “I always found it odd she always posted Tori and rarely posted the boys, and if she did, it was all four boys together never just Tori’s brothers.”

Like so many others who are now combing through Ariel’s social media accounts looking for clues, Jill also noticed how often she “joked” about Tori in a way that seemed spiteful.

On social media, Ariel often referred to Tori as “the threenager.” Ariel said on her podcast that Tori acted older than her age and “had an attitude.” She also called Tori an “evil genius.”

On several Instagram posts, Ariel Robinson “joked” about having feelings of jealousy toward her daughter.

Looking at the Greenville County public records site and there's not to much to share in the way of updates.

AR requested bail on 2/2/21 and was denied bail on 2/12/21. The records list she has an attorney, who doesn't look to be a public defender.

JR was also arrested for the same counts as AR (homicide by child abuse) and has retained a separate attorney from his wife. He requested bail on 2/4/21, posted bail and was released on 4/16/21 (with firearm restrictions).

The court site does not tell us when these two will be back in front of a judge.

SC Foster Father Charged In 3-Year-Old’s Murder Posts Bond, Could Be Allowed To See His Kids

This article mentions why Ariel would get so angry at Tori.

According to assistant Christy KednockerSustakovitch, Jerry Robinson said it all started that morning when Victoria wasn’t eating her pancakes fast enough. He told police that Tori “got it worse” than the other children, and Ariel would get angry at Tori often — particularly about her eating habits.

She beat her with a belt.:( :(

For not eating fast enough!

Not for lying.
Not for stealing.
Not for tricking another kid into trouble.

For not eating fast enough!

Yes, a belt is way too much for a child this age, probably inappropriate for any child's offense -- Tori reminds me ever so much of dear Erica Parsons:

jmho ymmv lrr

Yep. And dozens of others I've seen here over the years -- too many, over too many years.

I used to wonder, "Why potty-training? Why meals? Why too noisy?" But I increasingly think it's less about the specifics of any one activity and more the contest of will between parent and child amped up to an unsustainable degree. There are always battles between parents and kids, but red-lining with your 3 year-old? Because of the food craziness that all toddlers get into, or their bizarre fashion choices, or refusals to stay/ leave / dress / bathe / sing / not sing / sleep/ or any of the hundred hills a kid that age will chose to climb up and defend? None of those are places to dig in and drag out the belts or anything else that runs the risk of endangering her/him.

And in cases like these, I feel that bruises are like cockroaches -- for every one someone seee there are likely many more that no one saw. They probably bought Epsom salts by the bushel.

GRAPHIC WARNING: The details of this story may disturb some readers.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina/Gray News) – The husband of a Food Network star pleaded guilty Thursday to charges in the death of the couple’s 3-year-old foster daughter.

Jerry “Austin” Robinson pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting homicide by child abuse in the death of Victoria “Tori” Smith.

Prosecutors say Tori died in January 2021 after she was beaten by Ariel Robinson, the winner of season 20 of Food Network’s “Worst Cooks in America.”

"Jerry Robinson’s attorney asked the judge to take his cooperation with the investigation into account when considering sentencing. He faces 10 to 20 years minimum in prison. He will be sentenced after Ariel Robinson’s trial.

Ariel Robinson will go to trial on May 9.

Prosecutors asked for body camera footage from when first responders responded to the 911 call to be admissible in court during Ariel Robinson’s trial. The body camera footage captures first responders’ “horrified” reactions when they found the bruising on Tori’s body, according to prosecutors. "
