From today https://twitter.com/beccabarry/status/1371771429805563912?s=21

Court heard that on 3rd March Wayne Couzens had finished his shift earlier that day - in the morning before Sarah Everard went missing.

We discussed this in an earlier thread I remember, and I queried where was he between the hours he finished shift and his encounter with SE? Did he remain in London? Did he go back to Kent? Did he have the hire car already?

So a tweet has been deleted around WC finishing his shift early, either incorrect (doubtful IMO), or redacted to stop further information about his whereabouts that day.

Always had a tough time squaring him finishing at 8pm and doing everything up to 9.30pm.

Was he cruising around? stalking? lots of possibilities open

interesting, pre-supposes he will plead not guilty

Even if he pleads guilty, there will still need to be sentencing hearings, which will give at least some outline of the case and any aggravating or mitigating factors which are relevant to the length of sentence handed down.

Sparing the family the full, adversarial trial and potential cross examination of every single bit of evidence, is not a synonym for information on how she met her death never reaching the public domain

Calling the trial date 'provisional' is the normal term, routinely used for all cases until a plea is entered

The investigation into Sarah's death continues and is being led by Specialist Crime Command detectives who are drawing on expertise and skills from hundreds of colleagues across the Met. They are also being supported by Kent Police.

Couzens' house in Deal remains sealed off by police today while Met Officer's on Sunday opened up a new search area along the River Stour in Sandwich.

Sarah suspect appears in court

There is absolutely a huge backlog. There always was but it's been made worse by Covid19.

This case is of particular public interest so will be listed as early as is convenient for the prosecution and defence.

I just did a quick search as I too had read there was a bigger backlog since covid.

Case backlog threatens criminal justice system in England and Wales, say inspectors

Covid leading to four-year waits for England and Wales court trials

COVID-19: 'Grave concerns' over risk from huge court backlog as cases mount

Is four years too long to wait for justice?

There’s been quite a lot of press about delays.

Bars and gyms are closed here. If he stayed in London (or anywhere else for that matter), there isn't a lot to do.

Agreed. JMO but I don’t see that they are bouncing murder trials to make way for this one

the speed of how quickly the case goes to trial is also dependant on how ready it is to go to trial. It isn’t necessarily about chronological order from the offence/arrest, it’s if the case is ready. They must feel they have enough evidence to convict the accused to feel confident for trial in 7 months.
