EXCLUSIVE: "The Fight For Truth: The Inside Story Behind the Breonna Taylor Tragedy," written by Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, 48, will be edited and published by Tennessee-based Post Hill Press. It will be released this fall.
The Courier Journal learned of Mattingly's book when he contacted a staff photographer Tuesday seeking permission to use a photo from May 2020 protests.

In the brief email, Mattingly said he is still "in the process of writing," but did provide the title of his forthcoming book.
 
Breonna Taylor's family, lawyers rejoice after Derek Chauvin verdict

"THANK YOU GOD!" tweeted Juniyah Palmer, Taylor's younger sister. "FINALLY JUSTICE FOR George Floyd."

She followed up: "We up next! Justice for Breonna."

"Today is a good day," she wrote, "… but there are more battles to win. Today we rejoice, tomorrow we get back to work."

Breonna Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, posted on her Facebook and Twitter pages Tuesday afternoon following the announcement of Chauvin being found guilty:

“Today justice has been served but we are not (done) fighting for justice for all the victims and families (who) haven’t received theirs,” Palmer tweeted. “This isn’t over.”

Kenneth Walker, Taylor’s boyfriend, shared Palmer’s Facebook post, stating, “LMPD take notes.”

The Courier Journal learned Mattingly was cashing in on the incident when he asked a staff photographer for permission to use a photo from last year’s protests on Tuesday.

Shannon Coulter’s boycott campaign with more than 90,000 followers, directly called out Simon & Schuster on Twitter:

“I notice one of the publishers you distribute, @PostHillPress has given a book deal to one of the guys who fired shots in Breonna Taylor’s apartment. Same guy who sued her boyfriend for “emotional distress.” Will you be distributing this?,” she tweeted.

Post Hill Press is still publishing it.
They’ll just use a different distributor.

His supervisor agreed. But their commanding officers did not. Now we know why Mattingly was cleared of wrongdoing.

Louisville Metro Police officers at Breonna Taylor's apartment shouldn't have returned any gunfire because it wasn't safe to do so, a department investigator determined in a review of the fatal shooting.

The officers had an "obligation" to only use deadly force against the person who was presenting a deadly threat, Sgt. Andrew Meyer of the department's Professional Standards Unit found in a preliminary report dated Dec. 4.

They could not safely do that, given the layout of the hallway at Taylor's South End apartment, the poor lighting, the rapid gunfire and the lack of "target isolation," Meyer said.

Because of that, none of the seven officers who went to Taylor's apartment to serve a search warrant shortly before 1 a.m. on March 13, 2020, should have fired their weapons, he said.

And the warrant was based on claims provided by a confidential informant — and obtained by Det. Brian Bailey, who is under investigation into allegations in three lawsuits that he sexually abused multiple women he forced to be informants.

LMPD cleared top warrant detective of sexual misconduct. Then, more women came forward.
 
One of the police officers involved in the Breonna Taylor shooting is being investigated for allegedly throwing drinks at people while on duty: report

Kelly Hanna Goodlett, who attorneys representing Taylor's family allege told officers present at the crime scene to turn off their body cameras, is one of the Louisville officers currently under investigation for targeting pedestrians with beverages.

According to WAVE 3 News, the drink-throwing incidents are believed to have occurred on the department's 9th Mobile Unit, which was dismantled after a litany of scandals, including lawsuits claiming residents were being racially profiled. The department's dismantling of the 9th Mobile Unit eventually led to the creation of the Criminal Interdiction Unit, which investigated the Taylor case, the outlet reported.

Goodlett was part of that investigation and conducted surveillance on Taylor's ex-boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover, as a member of the unit leading a narcotics investigation into him.

WAVE 3 News also reported that Bryan Wilson, a former Louisville Metropolitan Police Department officer who resigned after he was accused of posting a lewd photo of a female officer in 2019, was also involved in the drink-throwing incidents. Wilson and Goodlett were reportedly assigned to the 9th Mobile Unit at the same time.
