Coroner to Use Dental Records to Confirm Identity of Man's Body Recovered from Lake Erie

The coroner confirmed it is a male.

Cook tells Erie News Now the body is that of a male, but is badly decomposed, so he will use dental records to try to determine the man's identity.


Authorities are not able to confirm whether or not the body was that of Rabin Subedi, the 21-year-old who went missing near the marina weeks ago.


When Subedi's family learned a body had been discovered, they went to the scene, but again, the coroner cannot positively confirm the identity without further investigation.

Rescue crews recover body found along Lake Erie shoreline in east Erie; identity unknown

The body was found along the shoreline near the foot of East Avenue by the former Erie Coke plant.

The identity of the body was unknown Thursday. Coroner Lyell Cook said his office would start an investigation on Friday, and that making a positive identification would take time due to the condition of the body.

"I expect it will take a few days," Cook said early Thursday evening.

The body was spotted by people who were fishing on a boat, Erie Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Carroll said.

The body was found in an area that search teams scoured over several days in late March and early April in an effort to locate Millcreek Township resident Rabin Subedi, whose family reported him missing on March 26.

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I had been looking at the news every day multiple times a day. I am just happy he is going to be laid to rest. RIP Rabin your death has effected more people then you will know. You were never alone.

The Erie County Coroner has confirmed the body discovered in Lake Erie last week is that of 21-year-old Rabin Subedi.

Body found in bay near former Erie Coke site
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook determines Subedi drowned.

There are no signs of foul play.
