A woman who died hiking Camelback Mountain Friday has been identified. Arizona's Family confirmed that 31-year-old Angela Tramonte, who is from the Boston area, was visiting Arizona from for the first time, reportedly to see a man that she had met on Instagram. That man, according to Tramonte's friends, was off-duty Phoenix police officer Dario Dizdar.

According to police, Fire crews were called out to a trail at Camelback Mountain at around 1:00 p.m., after receiving a missing hiker call.

"The person who called 911 was an off-duty Phoenix Police officer, who informed the emergency operator that he and Ms. Tramonte had separated during a hike, and he could not find her," read a portion of the statement.

"She was unsure of herself making it all the way to the top, and wanted to turn around and make it back to the parking lot," said Captain Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department.

According to Phoenix Police, neither Tramonte nor her companion had any water.

"The witness also told officers, during the hike Ms. Tramonte decided to head back down the trail and asked him to continue to the top to take pictures so that she could share them on her social media. The pair agreed to meet later at the car," read a portion of the statement…

Her hiking companion Dario Dizdar claims to be her boyfriend. He has been employed as a cop with the Phoenix Police Department (PPD) since 2007, despite being disciplined for lying to Arizona police about his identity during a 2009 criminal investigation.

According to internal PPD documents in 2020, Dizdar was previously disciplined and placed on a Maricopa County Attorney’s Office “Brady list” which tracks police officers with "integrity concerns" because of past misconduct.

Not answering any direct questions, the PPD released a detailed timeline of events Monday evening:

On July 30, 2021, at about 1:00 p.m., Phoenix Fire personnel responded to a trail at Camelback Mountain after receiving a 911 call reporting a hiker missing. The person who called 911 was an off-duty Phoenix Police officer, who informed the emergency operator that he and Ms. Tramonte had separated during a hike, and he could not find her. The initial search included over 30 fire personnel and the police helicopter.

At 3:00 p.m., Phoenix Fire requested the assistance of Phoenix Police officers to help with search efforts. The witness told officers Ms. Tramonte and he began their hike around 10:00 a.m. and neither one of them had any water. The witness also told officers, during the hike Ms.Tramonte decided to head back down the trail and asked him to continue to the top to take pictures so that she could share them on her social media. The pair agreed to meet later at the car.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., Ms. Tramonte was located off the Echo Canyon Trail, adjacent to a home, on the northeast side of Camelback Mountain. Phoenix Fire personnel responded and found her unresponsive, beyond resuscitative efforts and she was pronounced deceased. No traumatic injuries were observed during the initial investigation or discovered during the autopsy. Ms. Tramonte’s cellular phone was located on her when she was found.

At this time there is no evidence to indicate foul play is suspected in connection with Ms. Tramonte’s tragic death. The City employee who was with Ms. Tramonte is a witness and is cooperating with investigators. He has been granted personal time off and has been offered resources to deal with this tragedy.

Hiking with no water, when the temperature in Phoenix, AZ was 104F/40C degrees? Hiking with no cell phone? Just don't believe that she would do this. The timeline seems to be in question (IMO), based on these accounts from two different articles.

“She worked out at 6 o'clock every morning. She was extremely fit, healthy, always with a gallon of water,” said friend Evelyn Doherty Terfiy. “She would never have gone anywhere without water and she never would have not been prepared.” [Underscored by Me]

She would not have hiked with no water--and certainly would have brought her cell phone along if she had wanted to post pictures from her hike on social media. Now, I can't say that I've read that she didn't have her cell phone with her (haven't read every article), but I am just speculating that she did not have her phone with her on the hike. Otherwise, she would have called 9-1-1 if she was in need of help after becoming lost.

Phoenix police identified Dizdar as a “witness” and said he was cooperating with the investigation.

But friends have questioned the details of Tramonte’s death.

“She supposedly walked back down the mountain ALONE to the car while this man continued on by himself. He clearly has no regard for her safety,” Melissa Buttaro wrote in a ***.

“Angela lived a very healthy, active lifestyle. She woke up early every morning to go the gym. She did weekly meal planning and was obsessed with drinking water. She also loved walking her dog Dolce every day. There are many inconsistencies in the timeline and facts that just don’t make any sense.”

Another friend, Stacey Gerardi, similarly questioned why Dizdar would have just left Tramonte behind if she was having medical issues.

“As a cop, as a first responder, you’re supposed to help people. If somebody’s walking up a mountain and you’re seeing her in distress and she’s not feeling well and she’s exhausted — why wouldn’t you walk her back down,” she told WBZ4. “Why would you continue to walk back up? It doesn’t make sense.”

So, her phone was found on her? She sounds like a person that would call for help.

Local here. Lots of people do hike at 10am here. I don't, but super avid hikers (I am just a regualr avid hiker) and folks who are used to the heat here do indeed hike then. Now, having said that, both Camelback and Piestewa Peak (a similar hike in the same general area) are closed between 11am-5pm over the next few days due to heat advisory. This closure was prompted by first responders, who are getting hurt doing these rescues every day.

and there are signs at the trailhead telling hikers how much water they need to have. And last time I was there, there were firefighters at the trailhead handing out water and bananas and talking to folks arriving to hike about the dangers... No way anyone would attempt to hike Camelback without water right now. I just am not buying that. Maybe they consumed whatever they had taken?

Very suspicious! I would guess the time of death would tell a lot. I hope I am not violating any rules when I hypothesize that she could have been killed at another location, then placed in the area she was found. The hiking senerio then followed.

Mine, too. What first responder, who knows Arizona weather, goes on a hike without water? Makes no sense.

I don't think she ever went on a hike. I think something happened after her arrival on Thursday. Things were not "working out" to her satisfaction. (IMO)
