TX TX - Rachel Cooke, 20, Georgetown, 10 Jan 2002

I’m thinking stranger abduction. I just don’t know if it happened on her run or someone lying in wait at the house. They didn’t keep the doors locked.

I would like to know more about the ex boyfriend. In the early years after her disappearance I heard nothing about him. The first time I heard of him was a couple years back while watching Disappeared.

Thank you imstilla for the good recap article.

Sheriff Chody really got this case moving again when he was elected, I had so much hope that we would find Rachael or at least get some answers. However, since he has been indicted for evidence tampering involving Javier Ambler and 'Live PD' , I don't even know what to think.

For a little bit of fresh discussion;

What do you think happened to Rachel?
I can't believe this case will almost be 20 yrs old soon. I remember reading her father's blogs about the search for Rachel. I keep hoping there will be some break through, it's been too long without any answers for her family! I tend to think the ex-boyfriend was involved. I remember reading he had shown up to her parents' home (maybe like the nigh before she went missing or a couple days prior?) and wanted to see her and was rebuffed and was angry. An ex that is scorned seems like motive to me.

Here's what I find odd, when you search for 221 CHAPARRAL RD, one comes up for liberty hill, and one comes up for Georgetown. Something else I found when I looked at the sales history, in 2001 it was owned by someone with the same last name as a kid that went to the same high school and graduated in 2001. Even more interesting, is this guy, with the same last name appears to have horses, and could possibly be in the "horse industry", and is also a white male.

From the Charley Missing Link:

In August 2006, Michael Keith Moore confessed to Cooke's murder. A photograph of Moore is posted below this case summary. He stated he attacked Cooke while jogging, knocked her unconscious, drove her somewhere and raped her. After murdering her, he wrapped her body in a tarp, weighted it with rocks and threw it into Matagorda Bay.

(He later reneged on the deal with the prosecutors)
He agreed to plead guilty to Cooke's murder in November 2006 in exchange for a sentence of life in prison, but in court Moore reneged and pleaded not guilty in Cooke's case.

Moore told the media he had been toying with authorities when he confessed to killing Cooke, and that he got special treatment in prison in exchange for his cooperation. He stated he had nothing to do with her disappearance and the police should have known that.

Prosecutors announced that he will go to trial for Cooke's murder. Her remains have not been found, but investigators believe Moore's confession was accurate.
