"The disappearance of a 40-year-old Langley, B.C., woman is now a criminal investigation, RCMP say.

Naomi Onotera was last seen leaving her home near 200th Street and 50th Avenue in Langley city on Aug. 28, according to a police release.

Her family reported her missing the next day.

They said Onotera was wearing black, flared stretch pants and a black T-shirt when she was last seen.

Cpl. Holly Largy said in a statement Wednesday that the investigation into Onotera's disappearance is now in the hands of the force's serious crime unit.

Anyone in the area of 200th Street and 50th Avenue who might have recorded surveillance or dashcam video from between 6 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday is asked to contact the Langley RCMP tip line at 604-532-3398.''

“Naomi was an absolute loving mother. For her to go anywhere without her child is uncharacteristic. For her to go anywhere at night, without a phone or her keys or anything else… a hike or a day time walk is characteristic of her but not something like this.”

“Naomis husband last saw her Saturday evening leaving their home near 200th st and 50th ave. The next day, [naomi] was supposed to meet up with friends…”

“She did have an engagement with a girlfriend for a brunch or a breakfast that she did not show up to, and then again did not show up to a dinner engagement with a different friend. The friend then contacted the mother, which then went to the house to look for her and she wasn’t there, it was then stated that she had been missing for twenty hours. Then the police were called.”

“She is loved by her family. Loved by her community. Her little girl is her absolute world and we just need to bring her home.”

Online speculation not helping search for Langley's Naomi Onotera: police
''The Langley RCMP have asked people to give any relevant information to the police, reminding everyone that the investigation is ongoing and no suspect has been identified.''

''Corp. Holly Largy told NEWS 1130 Thursday that Onotera’s disappearance is “extremely concerning,” and completely out of character. She understands why people are paying attention to the case and helping with the search, but wants people to stop repeating or spreading rumours and allegations online.

“We’re trying to conduct an investigation where we interview people, and oftentimes what happens is people will read something, and then sort of take it on as their own memory as opposed to drawing from what they actually know,” she tells NEWS 1130 Thursday.

“It can just really damage an investigation. We’d like to encourage people to refrain from commenting on social media. Words of encouragement to the family are much appreciated, obviously, but any accusations that are being thrown around out there just caused distress.”

Interesting that the last paragraph focuses on Naomi’s importance to her “family” and daughter, specifically, and doesn’t mention her husband (sure, he could be considered to be covered by the term “family,” but I guess I just interpreted that as referring to her mother/her family of birth more than her spouse). Also interesting that she had plans for breakfast/brunch plans and dinner plans with friends; wonder if there were any circumstances in her life, prior to disappearing, that would’ve made her lean more heavily on her friends for support. I am curious about whether or not these plans included her husband and child, or if her spouse was supposed to care for their daughter while Naomi was out—if that was the plan, I would like to know how he felt about her going out and leaving the baby with him. Hope she is found safe and soon, but getting a sense of deja-vu when reading the details of this disappearance.
All the above is MOO and conjecture!

Ws thread for woman referenced in article.
Found Deceased - Canada - Trina Hunt, 48, Port Moody, BC, 18 January 2021

Family of Trina Hunt offer support in search for missing Langley, B.C. woman - BC | Globalnews.ca
''Onotera was supposed to be back teaching at Katzie Elementary on Tuesday.

“She had meetings set up with friends. She wanted to be social,” family friend Kylie Hannan said. “She was excited to go back to work. Everything leads towards such a happy and healthy person.”

Langley RCMP’s serious crimes unit, search-and-rescue staff, along with dozens of volunteers have been scouring the area trying to locate her.

Among those offering support is the family of Trina Hunt, the Port Moody woman whose remains were found in May after being reported missing in January.

“There can’t be another missing woman in the Lower Mainland,” said Hunt’s cousin Stephanie Ibbott. “How is this possible? It just reignites all the trauma we went through with Trina.”

She left the house for an unknown reason, doesn’t return. Hours later, still doesn’t return...and her husband is doing what during this time? Is he calling anyone to look for her?

It’s never a good sign when the husband is the last to see the spouse, yet other people are the ones looking for her.

Candlelight vigil held for missing Langley woman
''Investigators are looking to speak to anyone in the area with surveillance or dashboard cameras. Specifically, they're looking for video captured between 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 29.

Police describe Onotera as 5'9" and about 170 pounds, with long brown hair and brown eyes. They believe she was wearing black "stretchy pants that had a slight flair at the bottom" at the time of her disappearance, as well as a black T-shirt.

Onotera is the mother of an 18-month-old girl. She is also a teacher at Surrey’s Katzie Elementary School.''

Does anyone know if they brought the tracking dogs the day after the report of missing. There’s a lot of good people out doing intensive searching but the trail is getting cold.

Unfortunately, no more information has been released to the public. There is a lot of speculation on two other websites as well as things I have heard from neighbours, however at this point everything has to be taken as rumour. The police are being very tight lipped for the time being...

For Onotera’s family, the shock is almost overwhelming — but they have fierce hope that she will be found safe.

“It’s been surreal, and our whole family’s worst nightmare. We never expected anything like this to ever happen. We just miss her a lot. We just want to see her again, we want to have holidays with her, we want to have summers with her,” Kerr tells NEWS 1130 through tears.

No additional details have been released by the police.

A couple quotes from the link:

“Video footage has been sent to the RCMP since they put a call to the public, Largy confirmed, but she also asked those who have not reviewed their recordings to do so.

“I still encourage people to to give us any video they may have,” she said.”

I am older (in my 60s), and it is a marvel to me how technology is really helpful for missing persons cases. Ring cameras on homes, street traffic cams, Gaia hiking apps, cell phones, computers. I think it’s great. Some may not like the fact that “big brother” is watching you, but when it comes to a missing loved one—bring it on!
