Do I have this right?
It sounds like the cameraman on the KSL5 helicopter spotted the body first?
And they alerted the search team?
TIA!

Just heartbroken at the way this is turning out. :(

Not how I understood it. The chopper was following the search crews around and noticed that one team had pointed something out. The other teams then stopped their searches and several more people went to the area that had been pointed out by the original search team.

A few people set up the tent 20 yards away from the body while others walked over to the presumed crime scene. Before they were able to place the tent over the crime scene, the chopper went to area where people were gathering and saw the body.

North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor defended his department from the critics.

“These guys are full of s–t,” Taylor told the New York Post. “We have a missing person case and we don’t have anyone to talk to and we don’t have any evidence of a crime on a case that’s outside our jurisdiction.”
…..
Except, Josh, that you publicly named BL a person of interest, so it's not unreasonable for people to think you should at least have had visual confirmation that he was actually in your jurisdiction, in my opinion (and that of other LE professionals).

Does the hitchiking make sense to anyone? now we saw the van parked and her body not so far away I can't see why he would have thumbed a lift etc. Seems he was with the van all along to me, maybe I am missing something

Gabby’s mom doesn’t believe the hitchhiker was Brian. I can’t find the link but she said the timeline was too tight for him to have been in Miranda’s jeep at that time and then back in Florida on Sept 1.

Or original plan was to make his own way back to Florida, say they’d broken up, and tell LE the last place he saw Gabby was when he left her with the van up at Spread Creek when she dumped him.

May have panicked and realised he had either told the Tiktokers too much or something that could easily be proved a lie if it came to it, then gone back to Spread Creek, perhaps made a slightly “better” effort to hide the body, and driven back to FL in the van.
Do we know if he left the van at Spread Creek? Why wouldn't he drive away from the crime scene and park in another area to go "hiking"? Did he expect her to be found?

What if it turns out that he took her phone and used her credit card while alone? We already know that he had the car.

Is it a crime to be using someone’s car? She can’t press charges. It’s clear he had permission to use it as he was driving it most of their trip. JL may have talked to attorney about bringing back van to FL. Whatever he says about the van can’t be disputed by GP. Credit card? Didnt read anything about them being used after parents reported her missing. That’s any easy way to try to track someone. JL has a good chance of getting away with no legal repercussions. They have to prove any allegations and not much evidence so far that he harmed GP. He just left her.

I don't know if this has been asked but do we have a pin point of where the van was last seen (the couples youtube video) and where Gabby was found?

Yesterday someone mentioned it was about 200 yards, which is approx 1/10 mile. I can't find the post, but someone posted an aerial view showing the 2 locations.

Edit: Changed 1000 to 200 yards and 1.2 mile to 1/10 mile

Thank you.
It was so confusing yesterday.

When all the facts are released to the pertinent DA, we may find out why the Laundries acted the way they did. Because they all kept mum, there might not be much of a legal criminal case against BL. Is it a criminal offense NOT to report a body or missing person in Wyoming? Is there evidence BL physically harmed or endangered GP in way that led to her death? Did BL parents do best thing for son by refusing to talk to anyone except when advantageous to them? What would most parents do if their adult child return home from trip without companion and refuses to talk about, and upon contacting an attorney, the attorney supports keeping quiet
obviously just my opinion but if my adult son returns from a trip without companion and refuses to talk I don’t call an attorney. I call the companions family and then if warranted I call police. If I ever have to google “is it a criminal offense NOT to report a body in…” for myself or my kids then I’m just doing life wrong.

None of us know what Brian told his family. He could have told them that she decided to break up with him and ran off with another guy she met, so they felt compelled to protect/help him. They most likely thought this was all one big misunderstanding if Brian indeed lied to them. We really don't know.

I'm in Florida, less than an hour's drive to North Port. Yesterday, when we still had at least three to four more hours of light, LE halted the search, because it was "getting too dark". They also said the weather was too bad to continue. Nope. It was a lovely, overcast day and temperatures were more than comfortable. So, no inability to see and a lovely day.
My take is there's other information about about BL that caused LE to abruptly pull the plug on the search.
My take also. I’m due north by the airport, about 40 miles. It was overcast, the expected rain went north and east. Family in Punta Gorda, which is due south, had the same weather.

Somethings up but it doesn’t sound like they found a body to me. No doubt a lot of locals are crawling that park and reserve now that they can get in. Lots of 4 wheelers and good ole boys. Brian better hope he’s not found by them. Think Gage Jackson.

‘Those Guys Are Full of S**t”: North Port Police Hit Back At Criticism Cops Mishandled Gabby Petito Investigation; Boyfriend Brian Laundrie Remains Missing

“[Police] should’ve immediately placed [Laundrie] under surveillance,” Ed Gavin, an expert in missing person cases and former acting chief of the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, told the New York Post. “Immediately.”

“They should’ve been all over him … The fact that they let him out of their sight, that’s a no-no. Time is of the essence with these investigations.”

……..

Those guys at NPPD are completely overwhelmed by this case. Not a professional response, IMO.

I haven't seen these posted yet, apologies if they're a duplicate.
Tweets from Reena Roy at ABC News.

Some of the postcards #GabbyPetito sent to Brian Laundrie's nephews while on their cross-country road trip.
These were given to ABC News by Laundrie's sister Cassie who says "Gabby was a fun and loving influence to the boys...We will cherish all the time spent with her.”

Snark alert!
Maybe it would have been more appropriate to share them with her family.
Grr.

It’s sad that when Gabby was talking to LE in the video after they were pulled over, it was obvious that something big was wrong but all they did was threaten that they could arrest her!!!!!!!!!!!! <modsnip - opinion stated as fact>

Boyfriend of Gabby Petito still missing as police call off reserve search

North Port, FL police say they have no plans to "conduct a major search" at Carlton Reserve for Brian Laundrie today. That's where they focused the search over the weekend. The department also says all media interviews are on hold until further notice.

I posted a speculation along these lines right after I saw the TikTok Hitchhike video on Friday, how incongruent the conversation was between M Baker and her BF in her Jeep, the $200 and how he said let me out here (IMO...he did not want to get too far away from where he left the van). Now after seeing where she MAY have been found, I agree with you in that most likely BL did attempt to bury her, or cover her up in the evening hours of the 28th in darkness, as all can see the ground is very hard, rocky and depth of digging was not going to happen without the right equipment. IMO... he left that area in the van sometime early on the 29th of August and spent that day figuring out/planning the alibi, where to park the van close to the Colton Bay to Jackson Reservoir location where he was dropped back off. My guess and I posted this last Friday, is after he was dropped off from hitchhiking, he walked to the van, left the area for good and headed to Florida, in order to make it by the apparent date of 9/1. I would imagine the FBI will at some point add to the timeline of his departure time from GTNP, what route he took etc...

MOO In regards to the hitchhiker, she turned on a road, not the 191 which would have passed the campsite, he then freaks out asks to get out. Maybe he wanted to go past the site to see if there was police presence etc. If he left her in the open he could of been waiting for her to be discovered. Hence him being away from the scene, alibi.

Pinpointing a cause of death would be the responsibility of the coroner, who will make a call as to which of five categories the death corresponds to: homicide, accident, suicide, natural causes, or undetermined. “The likelihood is high that he’ll declare it a homicide,” Kobilinsky said. “This is a healthy 22-year-old that went missing under mysterious circumstances.”

Even if the remains are mostly skeletal, a coroner would look for an impression in the skull or the fracturing of the hyoid bone in the neck—signs that would point to blunt force trauma and manual strangulation, respectively.
