Another thing I cannot stop thinking about (other than her poor family and friends) are class of kids she has just been getting to know at her new job. How on earth do you explain to a whole class of year 1 that their no doubt beloved teacher not only wasn’t coming back but the reason why. So so sad. It’s going to have serious community ramifications.

We know that the police has confirmed she died at around 8.30 pm on the Friday but they haven't said what time she left her flat so she could have left at any time before that. Perhaps she left home at 7.00 pm or 7.30 pm when it was just getting dark hence why she felt she could take the route she did. Unless of course the 40 yo man who was arrested was indeed the person she was meeting in the Pub and confirmed the time. IMO.

I'm catching up via the MyLondon article linked above and it says she left home "shortly before 8.30pm" which if correct is an incredibly short time for anything to happen.

There are so many "facts" about this case which make it puzzling, I'd finding it hard to think what the sequence of events might have been.

How likely is it that a totally random act could result in death in such a short time. Has a cause of death been reported yet, I haven't seen one

The post-mortem was inconclusive.

I totally disagree . Sabina's murder has been prominent on all the on line papers and various media sites.

This is nothing to do with her ethnicity.
It is also in the news in Canada..
British teacher killed on 5-minute walk to the pub, police say | Toronto Sun
Sept 23 2021
''LONDON — A British teacher found murdered in a London park had been on a five-minute walk from her home to meet a friend in a pub, police said on Thursday.''

''She never arrived and her body was found in the park the next afternoon.

“Sabina’s journey should have taken just over five minutes but she never made it to her destination,” said Detective Inspector Joe Garrity, who is leading the murder investigation.

“If you think you saw Sabina or any suspicious behaviour in or around the park on Friday evening please speak to us.”

My feeling is this wasn't a pre-meditated attack. I think the unusually warm temperature that evening may be of relevance. If the perpetrator was wearing a hoodie or jacket he might have discarded it after running off. The inconclusive post mortem suggests possibly suffocation from a hand over the victim's mouth to prevent her calling out. I hope maybe a local doorbell camera might have captured someone walking past hurriedly to establish in which direction the murderer headed off.

I think it initially didn’t gain traction because someone was initially arrested and the police weren’t publicising it straight away. And she wasn’t reported missing. But now there is no suspect currently in custody, and more details of the story are in the public domain it is going to continue to run. It is just so heartbreaking. A dearly loved, young, capable, primary school teacher is murdered 5 minutes from her home in the early evening. Again she probably took all necessary precautions for her own safety (walked along well-lit path, early evening so reasonable for assume people would be about, in an area familiar to her). And yet here we are again. It is just so shocking. (And before anyone says she shouldn’t have been out after dark on her own as a young woman - where exactly are we supposed to be. Remember most women are murdered in their own homes by someone they know. So we are literally not safe anywhere).

I lived in the area where this happened back when I was a teenager (it was called the Ferrier estate back then) and I often drive through to access the A2, it was only last Thursday that whilst driving through my mum & I commented on how strange it was that 99.9% of the original estate had been demolished but they’d kept the one space building and the football cage (which was notoriously used as the meet up point for planned fights!). The reason this stands out to me is because the original estate did have hundreds of places to hide or to jump out at someone or to even hide a body but the new Kidbrooke Village is very open plan and spread across flat land, this being the last remaining part of the old estate means it is still a little darker at night and it has a vibe that’s still very much remnant to the old estate rather than the “village”.
I heard on LBC earlier today she had recently broken up with someone & was going through some personal stuff but was on her way to meet someone for a first date.. my instinct would lean towards the ex partner especially with the comment regarding a break up & personal stuff which was mentioned as if the break up had maybe not been amicable.
If someone had been watching her and following her that would be the place where they’d do something, I just don’t get the feeling it was random

She was meeting someone on a first date. I thought maybe it was something like that.

  • Sabina Nessa, 28, arranged to go on a first date at the Depot Bar in Kidbrooke Village last Friday
  • Police said she left her home and walked through Cator Park, where she was attacked at around 8.30pm
  • No one reported her missing after she failed to make the rendez-vous and her body was found on Saturday
  • Det Insp Joe Garrity said: 'Sabina's journey should have taken just over five minutes but she never made it'

The 28-year-old left her home on Astell Road after arranging to meet a man at The Depot bar in Pegler Square, Kidbrooke Village, south-east London, last Friday night but she never made it.

A friend told MailOnline: 'Sabina was going on a date on Friday night when she left her flat. It was a first date. She was going to meet this guy in the local pub, The Depot.

'I don't know whether they knew each other before or they had met online but I know it was a first date.'

The revelation comes as Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry says police are concerned the killer could strike again as investigations into her murder continue, but added there was nothing to suggest it would happen.

I find it surprising that if she had known this friend for a while that he did not worry and raise the alarm when she failed to turn up at the pub.

Good point. If it was a guy she'd never met before, I would guess he'd just think she changed her mind. Someone she had known in some capacity, I would think he would wonder if he didn't even get a text from her and would probably try to contact her.

No word on her phone, wonder if there are missed texts and calls from the date?

Hey everyone, can not believe we here yet again for the 3rd time in just over 18 months and yet again, this has been a murder of a young woman in London. I've been a Londoner all my life, never known it to be so unsafe for women.

Anyway, I read through the thread and a few things that strike me; The police haven't said if they have retrieved her belongings, regarding "First Date Guy" if I had been stood up for a first date, no matter how long I'd known the person for, I would've sent a gentle text and made no big deal of it, people get cold feet all the time and you don't want to look desperate by making a big thing out of it, especially if you really liked the person.

I do wonder if this could have been a a robbery gone wrong?

True, it sounds as if it wasn’t someone she had mutual friends with if her friends are unaware whether she’d known him for some time so even if he was confused or worried that she didn’t turn up he may not of known whether to push to find out more info or if to assume she’d had a change of heart and was no longer interested?
He possibly might not of known any of her friends or family to check with them that she was ok or he may of felt he’d seem strange doing so (of course in hindsight he wouldn’t have been).
I’ve not seen anything mentioned about her phone being found but my own phone is always on silent apart from during the hours my son is at school in case there is an emergency so there’s a chance no one would hear her phone vibrating.

From the above article:

He said there were "significant lines of enquiry" but that they had not ruled out any specific motive, adding: "We are keeping a completely open mind."

Det Chief Supt Lawry said they were not currently linking Ms Nessa’s murder to previous attacks and said that while a further attack was always a possibility, there was "no intelligence" to suggest her killer would act again.

He also confirmed that she had not been reported missing and that the man arrested shortly after the attack remained under investigation.

He insisted that the streets remained safe for women and that "people should be free to walk around, free from fear".

He said a stranger attack was one line of enquiry.

To me this reads as if they have a pretty good idea who could have murdered her but need more evidence to charge someone.

I'm a bit of an old fart... but younger people nowadays do so much socialising online that you might say you 'knew' someone even if you'd just exchanged Instagram (or other social media) messages over a period of weeks before actually meeting?
