GUILTY UK - Sarah Everard, 33, London, Clapham Common area, 3 Mar 2021 *Life sentence* #16

A whole life sentence is completely justified in this case for me, and the abuse of the position of trust is the defining factor.

It is unprecedented for a serving British police officer to use his warrant card to abduct a victim as far as I know and I do not think a 35 years + sentence would be sufficient because of that particular detail. It is a whole new bracket of crime.

A number of whole life prisoners pleaded guilty in the face of overwhelming evidence and it did not avail them, that includes a few prisoners who pleaded guilty to a murder of a single victim. For example, Jamie Reynolds, who killed Georgia Williams.

We might think: well, he will die in prison anyway, also release guidelines have changed, he won’t get parole. Perhaps no-one ever thought Colin Pitchfork would be released, either. Couzens must have no possibility of parole.

Jesus. 'Good' spot, Lucy. It may be an unrelated fridge (I'm sure there's lots of dumped white goods there) but this is harrowing knowing what we do now.

I also wonder when the first mugshots of WC were released, now we know he tried to fob the police off with 'the dog scratched my head'. As I remember, we all thought/assumed that his injuries were self inflicted - of course, we know he DID inflict harm on himself in custody, but I wonder if any of the images of him with injuries could have been evidence of Sarah's final fight. I haven't had the heart to look back through and line things up in terms of a timeline, though, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Maybe. But the fridge section is black, I thought perhaps from just being outside. But the freezer section is still white, so.........

He should get a whole life tariff. Like they said had he not been a police officer, she would never have gotten into his car. If crimes against police are taken extra serious then crimes made by police should be taken the same way.

Yeah, I noticed that too. But also (and only playing devil's advocate here - we'll presumably never know one way or another in terms of that photo, but I do think you're onto something, for what it's worth) the door next to the potentially burnt section doesn't seem to show any signs of scorching. So I'm not sure. I'd have thought there might be more damage if that was the fridge, with petrol being used for the fire, but I also wouldn't put it past that being 'the' fridge. Again, thank you for your excellent updates, sensitivity and high-grade sleuthing. It's been great to be sharing the thread with you today.

I hope he gets a full life tariff. He is clearly a danger to women. Thinking about Sarah's last hours is so upsetting and the worst part about it is that the deception would have been almost impossible to spot. Most people would co-operate with a police officer, especially if they thought they were in trouble. Would the fact that he was alone and not with another officer have given him away? Most police usually travel in pairs but I'm sure there are exceptions. By all accounts, Sarah was a sweet, good person who probably wanted to do the right thing and therefore didn't challenge him. :(

The statements from her family were heart breaking and it's so sad to hear how this evil act has affected their lives. In cases like this, with men like these, there often seems to be an escalation from viewing violent *advertiser censored*/ visiting escorts/ indecent exposure to things like rape and murder. It's awful.

Thank you everyone who has been posting court updates xx

We all knew from the earlier comments it was going to be beyond awful but my head and my heart hurts reading what they have deduced. Poor Sarah and her family. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain they are feeling knowing Sarah’s last hours.

This individual now needs to be locked away in a dark room for life and never heard from again.

Rest in peace Sarah. I am so sorry this happened to you and your family *advertiser censored*

We are now hearing from Sarah’s mother Susan Everard: “She was my precious little girl. I can never talk to her or hold her again. I’ve kept her dressing down which still smells of her, and I have that instead of her. I’m tormented at the thought of what she endured.”

Sarah’s mother Susan: “She spent her last hours on earth with the worst of humanity. I’m incandescent with rage. You treated my daughter as if she was nothing and disposed of her as if she was rubbish. In her last hours she was faced with brutality and terror.”

Absolutely heartbreaking.

The words of Sarah’s family are possibly the most heartbreaking victim impact statements I’ve ever read. So perfectly written, WC is a monster, I will be very surprised if he doesn’t get a whole life tariff he deserves one. Almost every aggravating circumstance applies in this case. If we were in the US he’d almost certainly face the death penalty. Gross abuse of his position as an officer, this is the stuff of nightmares
